NextBox to block used games.
Re: NextBox to block used games.
Yup. It sucks most for those with limited income. You know, like students and the unemployed.
But those people don't play games, do they?

Re: NextBox to block used games.
Unemployed people should not be buying this shit in my opinion. Get a job and then worry about wasting time...
I just bought 4 blockbuster PS4 games for 20$ each from Amazon unopened unused... if you're telling me a student can't afford 20$ for a video game (granted none of them came out very recently) then I think they have more problems than being able to afford entertainment software.
Your complaints are legitimate but I feel they're somewhat misleading. The problem isn't so much that video games are expensive and used video games aren't. The problem is the value that we're getting for our video games. Day one DLC and short offerings (1-10hours) are a blight. Digital gaming has always been expensive and it will continue to remain so.

Buddy, the same can be said about all these articles you are linking to. "legitimate but somewhat misleading".Ashenfury wrote: Your complaints are legitimate but I feel they're somewhat misleading. But I disagree with almost everything in the above paragraph.
"The problem is the value that we're getting for our video games." is it? I do not see that at all. The games I buy I review online first (by reading reviews) and then I buy them and for the most part they are pretty high quality. You are once again trying to argue that the videogame industry is NOT MAKING ENOUGH MONEY and it is affecting quality. Read my post earlier in this thread. They make a TON of money. I don't buy that at all.
The world is changing for all media so saying "Digital gaming has always been expensive and it will continue to remain so." is silly. Really. Remember the VCR? That was pretty expensive when it came out. If you think the state of digital gaming will remain the same over the next 10 years, you are crazy.
We will have to agree to disagree on this. I do not see eye to eye with you on this at all.
EDIT:
Minecraft - cheap but great quality
Angry Birds? cheap but great quality
Those $0.99 games for android/iphone? Some of them are great!
How much is Dwarf Fortress?
Or do you define quality as "the latest and best graphics". Cause I have seen many games with fantastic graphics that were still shit.

Re: NextBox to block used games.
If Microsoft and Sony decide to do this - then PC sales and Nintendo are going to go through the fucking roof.
There is a difference between anti-piracy and anti-customer. They are going anti-customer.
EDIT: Another Kotaku article that makes it a little more sense. It isn't barring used-games... it's just implementing that silly online pass thing. You know, "free" if you buy the game new, but an extra $5 if you don't have the code, allowing you to ... uh... buy stuff? Yeah - buying something for ACCESS to buy more something.
Woo!

Re: NextBox to block used games.
It isn't like this is a surprise. There is an extreme amount of effort from the publisher side to strike at the Gamestop used market.
Seriously think about it for a minute. Gamestop is actually worth more than double what activision is. Publishers and developers are going to want to do something about that because they are tired of a middle man making more off their work than they do.
Can you really blame them?

Re: NextBox to block used games.
Yep I can. Once the product is bought then it is out of their hands. No different then a car or a book or any other kind of arguments brought up in this thread. The video game business is not hurting like the publishers are making it out to be. They make more then Hollywood does and you don't hear Hollywood tossing a fit over used dvds/bluerays being resold.
If they cranked out better games then people wouldn't bat an eye at dropping full price money on said game.

No it's not.Viktor wrote:Seriously think about it for a minute. Gamestop is actually worth more than double what activision is.
Gamestop capitalization - 3.2 billion
Activision capitalization - 14.44 billion
The big game companies are not suffering. This is a cash grab, pure and simple.

Yeah? Then why did Gamestop have around 9.4 billion in revenue last year? Obviously because used games are small time.Malstrom wrote:No it's not.Viktor wrote:Seriously think about it for a minute. Gamestop is actually worth more than double what activision is.

Never argued revenue. Just company worth. There is no doubt a HUGE market for used games.Viktor wrote:Yeah? Then why did Gamestop have around 9.4 billion in revenue last year? And used cars. And used appliances. And used TVs.....

Only those things when traded in you get more than 10% of the their value back and they don't get resold for 90-95% of their retail price. Usually at least. I have also never seen someone trade in a new car to buy a new one after only owning it for a week.Malstrom wrote:Never argued revenue. Just company worth. Oh fuck...
Dogs and Cats living together!

Seriously though that is utter bullshit. Students have enough bullshit to worry about then having to buy new books for a fucktard useless class that they will never need again. I had a professor that tried to tell me that "History of Mankind from Dawn of Time to Dark Ages" would help me in the world of IT. I told her that she was nuts. Could explain my C grade though.

Re: NextBox to block used games.
It's a business method patent too. What a completely stupid idea
1) Sell book with unique code for (something)
Now *that* is fucking innovation deserving of 20 years of monopoly protection right fucking there.

Quite a number of my textbooks have online source material associated with it. While I've been taking more computer and program-centric courses... the two math courses I've taken have been an almost essential requirement. New - the books are $180 bucks. Used, more like $40. Fortunately, the math department at my college are made up of Big Brother-fighting Professors... so they give us free codes. BAM!
