Leyu's Trip to China
Leyu's Trip to China
Well, I arrived in Shanghai at Pudong International Airport on Tuesday, where I stayed overnight before going to the city Yiwu on Wednesday by train. I'm now here at the Futian Primary School, where I'll be teaching English to grades 3 through 6. I just got internet access today. I'll keep updating this thread from time to time with pictures I've taken. Trying to get by with my meager Chinese has been difficult; thankfully the English teachers here have been wonderfully helpful. I can speak it alright, but my ears are so bad at understanding. Catch you all later.

Just remember - they monitor *everything* you do on the internet.

More of the scenery from Wudang Mountain. My friend and I walked the path to the top of the mountain and back, which was about 5 miles up and down a series of stone stairs. It hurt.

More from the city of Wuhan. Wuhan is intersected by a river, and used to be three separate cities, Wuchang, Hankou, and Hanyang. My grandfather was mayor of Hankou. It has more than 10 million people.

The Yellow Crane Tower dates from before the Tang Dynasty. It's been rebuilt many times.

Some scenes from local Chinese opera in Yiwu. This was really an experience, it took place in a village where the stage and theatre was just a series of wooden benches, an overhang, and the stage itself. One of the teacher's sisters cooked dinner for us.

A 1500 year old Buddhist Village south of Yiwu.

I'm on my way back soon, I'm going to Shanghai tomorrow where I'll stay for two nights, then head back on Monday. I might not have internet access in Shanghai, as I'll be staying at a hotel where I'll have to pay for it, and I just might not bother. But I wanted to let everyone know what's up!
