Seems like a way to curry favour with a region that relied heavily on the industry. And is another example of why towns built around a single thing have issues.

Our resource companies have a pretty crappy record. Especially overseas. Or when exporting asbestos to India where most of that stuff goes.

I had no idea it was named after a town. Hate the stuff personally. Helped remodel an old house in San Diego and it was not an enjoyable experience replacing the floor due to asbestos. Damn you Canadians, trying to poison us!
