(( This is a story contest! I'm aping much of our former Keeper's experiments with format and function here, because I thought it worked well (but was severely under-participated).Caer Darrow is the seat of the Scholomance. The keep is filled with the death-magic of the Scourge, and should serve as a lesson in the betrayal the pinkskins make on each other. The Barov family "owned" this land--much of the eastern kingdom, in fact--bought with their gold coin. However, for some purpose--to gain the favor of the Scourge's masters, perhaps, or to see a life everlasting--they turned their family hold over to the necromancers of the plague. A school was formed, and that school was the end of the Barov line.
However, there is more ancient history here. A blood elven magister swore to me once that there was a runestone on the very spot. The Old Horde knows something about this story…when the orcs invaded the island, they took this powerful magic for their own. Is there still some of its power here? Is it this power that brings the necromancers here? Do they draw from it to commit crimes against nature and the Spirits?
There is history here, Grim--history we should remember, history we should discover. Find me the stories of this place, and bring them to me before we come together again.
~Yichimet the Seer, Keeper of the Mandate
There will be a prize(s) for the contest. The prize(s) will depend on how many people enter. If I can get ten or more different players (not characters by the same player!) to enter a story in this contest, there will be three prizes. Less than ten, there will be two. If ten people enter, the prizes will be: 1st, a [wowitem]Primordial Saronite[/wowitem]; 2nd, a [wowitem]Glacial Bag[/wowitem]; 3rd, an epic gem of your choice. If less than ten people enter, it will be the [wowitem]Glacial Bag[/wowitem] 1st, gem 2nd. (I'm hoping this gives you motivated people a reason to encourage your equally creative but less motivated friends to join the contest.)
For Reference:
Start with the WoWwiki page on Caer Darrow
Possible starting points:
- Many of our characters have personal interactions with Caer Darrow and its inhabitants--use these as your story. For instance, some of our older orcs may have knowledge of the invasion of Caer Darrow. Some of the Forsaken may have come from the area.
- Your character may have heard a story about the history of the place, and can relate that in a story. For instance, some of our elves may know the story of the runestone and how it came to be there.
- Just be creative! As long as it relates to the subject matter, it's good with me.
These are copied directly from the last story contest we held, because they're good.
1. You may work together and present something collaborative along with other Grim, but you may need to split the prize between you if you decide to do so.
2. Any form will do--text, art (if you would rather draw than write), verse, some combination.
3. Make sure whatever you come up with is not counter-Mandate, as well as has some relation back to the subject matter: Caer Darrow, Scholomance, and the area.
4. Keep it to an R rating. As long as it's acceptable in a public movie theater, it should be fine.
5. Submissions can be made through a post in the Gallow's End (ideally, respond to this thread!) or by PM to me sometime before the deadline, which will be forthcoming shortly when I find out when our next guild meeting will be.
6. BMR alts are allowed to play, especially if their back story is more fitting for the contest.
