((Just like the last one, this is an RP writing contest. However, the topic this time is far more open and far less specific as part of experimenting with what will work for the most Grim collectively. I'm hoping that as a result there will be more Grim incentive to come up with something that suits their own style of writing as well as their character. The Grim have stood before the Master's Glaive.
The place is heavily wrapped in both history and symbol, long kept hidden by the kaldorei and now infested by the Twilight's Hammer.
With the cracking open of Ulduar, the Old Gods make their presence felt again as they once did via the Qiraji. And thus, I send the Grim out into the world to learn what they can of history, of mythology, of the present, in order to share all of it with the rest of us that we might collect as much knowledge as possible and become more informed about the enemies we face today.
While the Grim may apply violence in almost every situation, sometimes the steps towards the most effective methods of annihilation are hidden within the more thoughtful realms of history, discovery, and magic.
Tell me what you have learned before I gather us together once again, and we will add to what we know.
~Qabian Amberlight, Keeper of the Mandate
There will be a prize at the end. There will be a [wowitem]Glacial Bag[/wowitem] for the winner and money for runners up, as previously, dependent on how many entries are received.
Judging will be based on both creativity and effort. Spelling and grammar are definitely not required, provided the final outcome is comprehensible. Bribes are acceptable, although I prefer bribes in the form of good stories. I am currently the only judge in order to keep participation open to as many Grim as possible.
As with before, deep research into Blizzard canon is not required. If anyone wants to use the Glaive as a jumping off point, they're more than welcome to, but the stories can involve any aspect of the Old Gods, even pure invention, provided it doesn't go into the realm of anti-Grim or anti-canon. No Alliance flower picking stories, please. Almost anything else is a go, though!
For Reference:
- The WoWwiki page on Old Gods.
- The WoWwiki page on the Master's Glaive.
- The Official page on Ulduar with trailer and introduction.
Possible starting point ideas:
- You can write up something to do with your character's adventures in attempting to learn about the Old Gods.
- You can write something about the Glaive in particular, what is known or speculated about its story, or even the impressions the location made on your character.
- You can have your character discover (or forge) a document either referencing or specifically about the Old Gods, and submit the "found" document, meaning the story itself doesn't have to involve your character or even other Grim characters in order to be valid for the contest. It can be something entirely invented.
- You can have your character discover or sketch some artwork or building plans that may relate to the Old Gods.
- Pretty much anything you can think up! Don't limit yourself.
Other than the subject matter itself, there are generally no restrictions. It can be as long or as short as you like, and if you want to make multiple contributions, go ahead, although I won't give more than one prize to any individual participant.
Rules and limitations:
1. You may work together and present something collaborative along with other Grim, but you may need to split the prize between you if you decide to do so.
2. Any form will do -- text, art (if you would rather draw than write), verse, some combination thereof, whatever.
3. Make sure whatever you come up with is not counter-Mandate, as well as has some relation back to the subject matter: the Old Gods.
4. Keep it to an R rating. As long as its acceptable in a public movie theater, it should be fine. If you're at all unsure if what you have is inappropriate or possibly offensive, send it to me first and I'll decide.
5. Submissions can be made either through a post in the Gallow's End or by PM to me sometime over the next month (by the beginning of June). I'll specify a precise deadline as it comes closer. If you want to post anything you do for this at TNG or the official forums, feel free, but make sure it also goes into the Gallow's End or a private message to me so that I don't miss it.
BMR alts are allowed to play, yes.
