Confirmed. I know someone who had a character transferred from their brothers account to theirs- only thing matching was surname.

I've done that, only from mine to my brothers.  We shared a single account for 3 months, I bought him his own but by then he had a 60 hunter that he left on mine until account transfers became an option.

Update:

I bought a key account verifier thing... (thursday) I'm waiting for it to show  up in the mail, and I'm *Not* logging in on any computer until I get it... so cross your fingers that it comes in relatively soon.

before you associate it with your account, i must stress


wipe your hard drive completely.  start from scratch, after a full reinstall of everything, change your password in wow again, then associate the key chain.  if you aren't fully clean it potentially won't help security
