Brass

Unread post by Brass »

(IC) What name or title do you go by?
"I'm Brasspair. Bazzil to fren's who know me good, 'Brass' to most else, and 'That Damn Goblin' the rest of the time."

(IC) What is your gender and race?

"I'm a gob guy. I'd make a lousy dame."

(IC) What is your class in life? Why did you choose to follow this class?
"I've taken up warrior work. Growin' up doin' heavy dockwork, doin' the occassional bruisin' job, an' gettin' the everlivin' beat outtah me often pointed me in that direction. No complaint though. 'That which doesn't kill yah makes you strongah', think I heard a Witch Doctah say once."

(IC) How many "Honorable" Kills do the Battlemasters currently have recorded for you?

"Plenty enough. Though more's always preferable. By thah time this app hits your digits it'll be more than whatever I scrawl here. Horde's given me a half-set so far of anti-blue hardware, one heck of a throwing axe, two trinkets, and bought me drinks. No cheap beers, neithah."

(IC) What drives you in life? How would the Grim benefit from having you among its ranks?
"Mostly the usual Gob things drive me. Gold, goods, gals. Eh. More the gold and goods part these days, I got as much gal as I can handle. Heh. To tell honest, there is more I work at too. Hard tah believe it, but I've only been knockin' heels with the Horde crowd less than a year. But hear me out - in that time, I've seen what the blues are up'tah an' I know for a fact they ain't pushin' peace. They want the whole pie. Horde's got honor, respects contracts - but blues - they spit on deals, an' just take take take rather than trade, swindle, or gamble like's sensible. If us gobs are to survive long term without bein' able to hide on their homeland - as a people - we ain't gonnah do good for ourselves if the blues decide to throw their weight aroun' like the own ever'thing."

"As for what I can bring tah the Grim? I can take no end'ah hits an' keep comin' back for more - an' when it comes to a throwdown, I can' dish it as easy. I've spat in the eye of some ah' the nastiest mothahs out there, clunked my way through battlefields carryin' scalps like a savage, an' I jus' don' back down. Evah. I ain't afraid to do what a gob's gottah do, kill what a gob's gottah kill, an' without hesitation. If it's in my contract, it's all business so far's I'm concerned - an' I won't bat an eyelash over' doin' it. It pays to have that kinda ethical flexibility, an' it'll be handy for Grim's interests. An' lets not forget that from my height anybodeh that underestimates me is gonnah sing soprano. So there's that too."

(IC) What did you do prior to The Grim?
"Since I left the bay... damn... feels like forever ago, heh. Since I been out n' aroun', I first hooked up with my pah's relief organization for Gob refugees. KORE Enterprises. I was there for a decen' while, mostly learnin' the what's what a' my new callin' as a Warrior, which worked out fine for me. Plenty of skulls to crack while worked aroun' tryin' to do some solids for our peeps and the Horde. Make coin. Dance the dance. Bust up blues. Y'know, the good fight an' good fun doin' it. Pah even put me in charge of a lot in KORE, but we disagreed loads on how some things are gonnah work when it comes to what a Gob is gonnah damn well do aey-way. His hope for Gobs as a people is that they'll voluntarily help each other for free at least short term... for FREE... Now, I'm down for helpin' the Gob people get back on' the rocket, iffn' you catch my drift - an' making profit along the way don' hurt - but he was downright the fool if he thought he could make Gobs work togethah like that. He was talkin' like a gold-damn copperless commie Gnome. Now, my pah's got a solid pair, an' lots of respect from the locals, but he ain't lived with Gobs for a huge chunk of his days, what with the second war he was in."

"Unable to make a dent either way with him, I decided to leave out and go freelance for a while. Some fren's got me to sign a contract with the Dragonhawk Brigade. For a time, things were ok there - busted my green behind tah help get some things done for them. Got thah final bank tab they soreleh needed. Rubbed elbows with some new fren's, even some other KORE gobs signed on right with me there. Not long after gettin' set in my skills, ended up vanguarding strikes against the assholes that banged' up our ball of mud - puttin' my gettin' hit an' putting the hurt out skills to the test. As time went on, though, there're differences in opinion there too. Much too complicated to go intah here, a'course, but differences that went against my contract with'em - an' aneh long term plans too. Some frens' I made there up an' left over the issues - an' though I stayed to see if they could be straightened out, ain't gonnah happen. Turns out I'm not the kindah talker my pah is. So? Contract's void. Still got fren's there, a'course, but long term Brigade's jus' not gonnah be for me. So, after pokin' aroun', hittin' up some stories over rotgut, figure'd I'd check out The Grim - I've stood beside them strikin' the heart of the enemy, rode beside them in Tol'barad now'n again huntin' blues. Seems a bit overdue tah me an' can think ah' worse to contract with."

(IC) What are your thoughts of the new direction the Horde has taken since the Cataclysm?

"Thing is, I ain't seen much of the Horde before the big one. Sure, I'd see blues n' reds passin' the colors through the Bay off to wherever, whenver. Once in a while had to bruise up scuffles when they couldn' take it outside, but there ain't many Gobs there that cared half to poke into politics unless it was to make their pouch jingle. Things change though. What I can tell yah is what I'm seein' an' hearin now, an' since I stepped into Orgrimmar I've gotten a look at this 'new' Horde. I've worked relief for Gobs strung out after Kezan went bang. I've heard their horror stories, an' seen for myself how Gobs n' Trolls are treated in town. Most gobs treated as no better'n slaves or peons, workin' oft enough for idiots that don' know a nut from a bolt. An' both peeps are havin' to steal food tah make ends meet while the Kor'kron steals it all up for the Grunts. They take this 'Hoard' thing seriously. Heh. Overall, ain't bein' managed good, an' a day doesn' go by that I ain't underestimated jus' like the rest of my kin. Also ain't a day that goes by that I don' prove 'em wrong. Dead wrong. I've met Garrosh Hellscream an' watched him waste expensive as fel zepps jus' to stoke his own ego. I know how long a zepp takes to make - the danger an' work involved jus' to get it airborne. He practically pissed them away when he ordered off the flyboys. Ever'thing I've seen, ever'thing, strikes me as mis-managed. Scattered n' overconfident. But I will say this, the Horde was at least there for us. Enemy of the enemy, 'n all that. An' they honor their word. Blood an' Honor, they say. They don't disappoint there an' I don' forget."

"Seein how things are goin', the Horde's been taking more ground than ever, but ain't gonnah matter half a screecher shit if we overstretch ourselves. Got a damn road comin' up the barrens to do jus' that. I guess what I'm tryin' to say is that the Horde's got the right idea now but needs to get its act togethah or we're gonnah lose what we got. An' the Horde's got a lot tah' lose. War's war, and tryin' to meet the blues half way ain't gonnah happen. Not with who's in charge on eithah side, an' not with the way humans think they own ever'thing outright an' with how self-righteously judgemental the purps are. We need tah watch ourselves, an' not underestimate our own peoples talents, nor get overconfident in what we've taken."

(OOC) The Grim is a role-playing guild that requires full immersion (heavy RP) of their members. What does that mean to you?

Means many things to me. Means that I'll be considering my character voice in what I do or say. Means that breaking the fourth wall is very difficult if I can't justify it (Brass doesn't have much an excuse as some characters I've played). Means that, short of the OOC channel or areas stated otherwise, I -am- Bazzil Brasspair for all intents and purposes.

(OOC) The Grim are considered a Lawful Evil guild, ruled by a structure with the intent to see the complete annihilation of their enemies. Does this definition conflict with how you want to play your character? If it does, how do you expect to handle the conflict with other members?

The thing about Evil is that it is not always so clear cut. Shades of gray are everywhere, and morality itself is subjective. This isn't a D&D campaign where I'll lose my class abilities if I lose my alignment due to actions that piss off some Deity. One frustration I have a lot with RPers in WoW is that they think being Evil is synonymous with being a prick (If I had a copper for every arrogant evil Blood Elf Warlock I've seen). If someone was an arrogant snidely whiplash impulsive supervillian all the time, how would they get anything done with the average people? That's stupid Evil. Smart Evil is sneaky, exploitive and much much harder to recognize someone RPing.

Brasspair is a Goblin. Being a Goblin means having a certain amount of moral flexibility that most other races can but aspire to, but doesn't mean that he has to go maiming kittens on purpose (unless there's profit in it, but otherwise it's just wasteful) to express it. Just means that when push comes to shove, Brass is going to do exactly what fits to achieve his objectives, so long as it fits in his contract. If considered that way, he could be Evil. I prefer to think of him as outright neutral, with a Lawful inclination due to Honor.

Brasspair has a few goals that might come across as generally noble. He wants to help his people generally, but expects to be rewarded in return somehow. Ain't no free lunch. He sides with the Horde because he is absolutely certain they will honor their given word - honor being a big deal in the Horde which makes it much easier to conduct business. There is also the fact that his people are leaning closer to them than ever for protection and exploitation, with the hostility of the Alliance certain to impact him wherever he goes. So all things considered, he's chosen his side. That being said, he is an thinker and opportunist. He is interested in gaining anything of value (gold, gear, knowledge, influence, etc) within purview of honor, particularly bound to those that agree to his contracts. One can do Evil now and then, good now and then, and be Honorable, after all. Brass is a lot like a classical mobster. He'll kill, but it's mostly all business with bigger goals in mind. Breaking his word would be dishonorable, bad for reputation, bad for business, and that all complicates matters.

(OOC) What sort of role-playing experience do you have, online or off-line? Do you consider yourself a beginner or Gary Gygax?

The great Gygax is beyond my aspiration. But I have plenty of experience with roleplaying. I've written guides on it, primers for Roleplaying WoW races for example (my Goblin one is on Twisting Nether Gazette). Outside of WoW, I've played and run D&D campaigns as well as a World of Darkness chronacle or two - though not for many years. Just can't ever seem to get people together anymore.

(OOC) Is this character a server-transfer or has it been renamed recently? If so, what was your previous server and/or in-game name?

No, I've been here. I started out named Brasspair, but got into a arm wrestle with GMs that had to end in compromise or my account getting banned. People call me Brass for short anyway, and the rest I can add with TotalRP 2.

(OOC) What are you, the player, looking for in the Grim? What are your expectations of the guild?

What I'm looking for will be more or less stated with clarity in my RP Contract, as well as what I'll be giving in return. That contract will be included with my letter (Sealed Vellum Dossier).

Some particular highlights though:

The Grim has been hyped as being a much more RP immersive guild, which is also reasonably successful and well populated (not easy in a pure RP guild, I've seen from experience). That's a start.

Also, based on those I've talked to, The Grim has chat is not overly censored due to conflicting standards of what is or is not mature. Basically, I can be an adult around adults instead of being forced to choke back around 10 year olds that may or may not exist. As it is in-character, that will be enough and well within the perview of both my way of speaking and my in-character 'voice'. A rage-filled warrior does use swear words now and again, and I expect that I'll be able to do so here without having kid-friendly excuses used to censor me. I am a big fan of George Carlin when it comes to consideration of kids in general, and it would be nice to be in a mature-minded guild that gets that idea without having the kinds of people who would abuse such a freedom of speech by turning chat into Trade drivel. That is a middle ground that should be easier to achieve than it has been for guilds out there, but one that I've heard The Grim has been successful with.

In addition, the opinion of the Alliance in The Grim as an enemy expressly is a big attraction to me. Not the 'well, I'm just playing Horde today - I'm going to go jump on my Alliance main. Let's be a both-faction Guild!'. I am Horde all the way and would appreciate hugely a Guild that is similarly focused.

I'm also very wary of how Guilds are run, studying them in my own way. When I find one that sucks, I write down what I saw and learn from it (or share it with those who are curious too). When I find one that has the right idea, I'm very supportive of it and do what I can to preserve it. That said, Abric as a leader, with what I've observed of his overall intelligence, patience, humor, and approach taken during raids in the Annihilators, seems capable of seeing the bigger picture where many GMs out there do not; that power going to his head is not as important as the constructive usage of everyone's time (a sentiment I can't express enough agreement to). That is a big factor in my decision, given many of my past observances of Guilds, and hope that I am not misjudging. Just as I do in raids currently, I think his can be an authority I can merit following.

Other than that, I'm more than happy to PvP which I do a lot when I need a break from PvE for a day or two. Plan no matter what to continue being dependable in raids with the Annihilators.

(OOC) When joining the Grim, each new applicant will be matched up with someone to help them get into the swing of being Grim. In order to coordinate this, we will need to have a fair approximation of your play schedule. Please give a general outline below, OR if you wish to keep it private, send a PM to Qarosimae.

My schedule is open. I am currently unemployed, unfortunately. It can, however, be slightly random due to RL variables or saturation. At any rate, I am a big proponent of communication and if there is a forum, I usually maintain a post for Officers and others to know what I'm doing and at least plan to be doing. It's also a good place to request me to work on something specifically - like if someone needs something made or wants me to Tank for them somewhere. Also, I'm fine with real-ID'ing my sponsor if necessary.

(OOC) Please provide an armory link to your character for verification.

(IC/OOC) Do you have anything further to add?

((Overall, I think I've said everything here. The only thing that I'd add is that my contract is an important facet of my character. It's also important to establishing an understanding with any Guild. Streamlines expectations on both sides and saves so much time, also allows people to understand entirely what I'm about here. Even if people don't read it fully, it's always there. Besides, discussing/signing the contract is a great chance to RP in person.))

Frost, fire, and arcane, this goblin makes even the most long-winded elf we have had thus far seem like an orc in comparison...Fel...

Other than the exorbitant length of your admission, everything seems in order. Seek an inquisitor.
