Re: TS problems
Pincus and I are now in the process of moving the server from my host to his which means, depending on how quick the dns propagates to you - you may hit the old server or you may hit the new.
There's going to be a few hours when some people will still find the old one while others find the new one.
Enjoy !!

Re: TS problems
It's simple: the stock Ventrilo mac program doesn't support the GSM codec, or whatever it's called, which a lot of servers use. So, if that server uses it, we can't hear or speak.Khorshah wrote:I've never run into problems with the Mac client for Vent; can someone elaborate on the issues they've been having, and I'll see if I can find solutions for them?
I know a google search will probably solve this, but I never knew there were other Mac Ventrilo clients out there, Yichimet. Do you have a ready link available?
Re: TS problems
Let me see what I can dig up. I may be confusing it with finding an appropriate TS Mac client. Come to think of it, the only time I used to connect to Vent was when I ran a couple ZA raid with SMU, and I booted into Windows to use Vent with them...hmmm. Let me see what I can find.

Re: TS problems
(( I just setup my TS server, and could setup a vent server on the backside of my webserver as an alternate solution. Let me know, but historically speaking the Grim TS server, has been pretty bullet proof it seems. if you factor standard up time percentages.

Re: TS problems
Speakinng as yer typical linux geek with access to servers and pretty much unlimited publicly funded bandwidth I looked in getting a vent server as an option for if/when our TS had one of its occasional but pretty rare hiccups. Really and truly, it is fricking hard and very very expensive to run your own (legal) vent server.Pincus wrote: The licensing of Ventrilo is, in short, draconian. The Public version only allows 8 connections at a time. You have to get the Pro version to go more than that. Getting a Pro version is not easy, since licenses are not given to people who just want to run server, you have to use a hosting service. That costs $$$. There's also some clauses that also dictate how I must run the server (with respect to firewalls) which I just do not agree to.

Yeah, I looked into hosting one at one point or another and very quickly decided I'd rather pay someone else to host it.angaroth wrote:Speakinng as yer typical linux geek with access to servers and pretty much unlimited publicly funded bandwidth I looked in getting a vent server as an option for if/when our TS had one of its occasional but pretty rare hiccups. Re: TS problems
Granted I barely use TS anymore and was using Vent to chat with Wix and Lorgalis (since they're both not around anymore) I never really had any problems with it. Save for the annoying "A new player has joined" "Player left" that would pierce my eardrum.. The only saving grace in Vent would be the wonderful musical sounds that alert you. ^^
But since these guys seem to have the TS situation on lock-down, there's really no point in complaining about it; they're doing their best and are making adjustments as they can. If it's been used for years, keep it going. Again, this is just my two cents and you can throw them in the penny jar along with the rest; Just thought I'd say what I was thinking..

Damn it! My window of dissent is closing! I am being folied again!*voice gets quieter* One day I will have my Vent-engeance! *gets even quieter* This isn't the last you'll hear of me *barley audible*

Re: TS problems
Looks like the DNS has propagated through now so I'm going to take the old TS server down. If you can't connect then its probably your ISP being a pain.
ts.thegrim.org now points to: 74.207.240.109, if you see it pointing to the old 63.242.148.50 address kick your dns around a bit.
Fun fact: The old TS server was in service from October 2005.

Learn to play with your settings, You can turn down and even turn off the 'new player' audio so its not breaking eardrums. and it will be a completely different setting from the voices too.Sylvea wrote: Granted I barely use TS anymore and was using Vent to chat with Wix and Lorgalis (since they're both not around anymore) I never really had any problems with it.
