Some pretty big news for the legendary cloak today has been announced. In brief:
When patch 6.0.2 drops, unless you're on the quest chain, you'll no longer be able to start the quests.
When Warlords of Draenor releases, you'll no longer be able to start the quest chain or complete it. All traces of the quests will be removed. If you have your cloak, it will stay.
The Gaze of the Black Prince buff has been extended until patch 6.0.2 releases.
This is good news for those already on the quests and rushing to finish things up... but it certainly puts a deadline on the completion of the chain.
The clock is ticking! Blizzard's full post below.
As a part of the transition from Mists of Pandaria to Warlords of Draenor, we'll be making some changes to the Legendary Cloak quest line and ultimately closing it out as players head into the new expansion. Once the quest is fully closed, the item will no longer be attainable, and the cloak will become a symbol of the great deeds you've accomplished in Mists of Pandaria.
With the release of the pre-expansion patch (6.0.2), players who are not already on the journey through this quest line will no longer be able to begin it. We will also be removing the Test of Valor step with patch 6.0.2 as a part of our transition from using Valor as a currency.
Once Warlords of Draenor launches on November 13, the Legendary Cloak quest line will be gone entirely-the quests and the cloak will no longer be obtainable, and any related in-progress quests will be cleared from your log.
But when one door closes, another door opens. In Warlords of Draenor, players will have the opportunity to earn a new Legendary item available exclusively in the new expansion: Khadgar's Band of the Archmage.
The Gaze of the Black Prince: One Last Look
If you haven't yet earned your Legendary Cloak, you still have one final opportunity to make accelerated progress on your quest. Rather than end the Gaze of the Black Prince buff on Tuesday, September 16 (as previously announced), the buff will remain active until the release of the Warlords of Draenor pre-patch (6.0.2). This buff increases the reputation gained with the Black Prince by 100%. It also increases the chance of obtaining items from his foes needed as a part of the Legendary Cloak quest line, including Secrets of the Empire, Sigil of Wisdom, Sigil of Power, and Titan Runestones.
Good luck on your quest, but remember that your voyage doesn't end here. Soon, you'll be setting your sights on the new Legendary item, Khadgar's Band of the Archmage, in Warlords of Draenor.
If you're still working on your Brawler's Guild achievements, get a move on - you have until Patch 6.0.2 to get that all done, because as soon as that drops, the Brawler's Guild will be closed until Warlords of Draenor comes out.
Blizzard - Patch 6.0.2 patch notes
Season 1 of the Brawler's has come to a close and associated achievements have been converted into Feats of Strength.
Fights will be unavailable while the Brawler's Guild is being refitted in preparation for Season 2 (available after Warlords of Draenor has launched.)
Account-wide membership in Brawler's Guild will carry over to Season 2. Once a brawler, always a brawler!
All current Brawler's Guild achievements will become Feats of Strength, and the fights won't be accessible until we get all new ones for Warlords of Draenor. But if you're a member, you don't have to worry about getting another invite, at least -- membership is for life.
Challenge modes will be making an exit with the launch of Patch 6.0.2 -- players looking to get their Challenge Mode gear should do so before the patch hits. But one of the sometimes overlooked bonuses of Challenge Modes is going away as well. The Thundering Serpent Hatchling, a reward from the Challenge Conquerors: Gold - Guild Edition achievement, will also be taking its leave with the release of the patch, according to a tweet by Senior Game Designer Jonathan LeCraft.
Players might not know about this sparky little Battle Pet, especially if they've recently joined a guild. The Thundering Serpent Hatchling isn't rewarded solely to the people that earned the achievement for the guild, it's a pet that is unlocked on the Guild Vendor. Anyone with at least Revered guild reputation can purchase it, but the serpent cannot at this time be caged -- which means you aren't going to find this little guy floating around on the Auction House. If you haven't picked him up yet, you might want to do so now -- because there's been no mention made of any possible future return.
Up until today we were all expecting to be able to purchase heirlooms with gold come patch 6.0.2. This was going to happen due to the removal of Justice Points and Valor Points. However Blizzard has decided to make a change and remove the ability to purchase these heirlooms with gold completely from the game. You'll still be able to get them from other dedicated currency, like the Darkmoon Faire tokens -- but that's a far cry from being able to buy them with Justice Points or gold.
Bashiok notes that this change is due to the new Heirloom system that they're developing, and they don't want to set up bad expectations.
The full post is as follows:
With the upcoming release of Patch 6.0.2, we'll be sending the vendors who sell Heirlooms for Justice Points on a nice vacation.
As you might already be aware, both Justice and Valor Points are being removed as currencies from the game in 6.0.2. As we started to work on new ways to buy Heirlooms, we found that we were setting their value up for a rollercoaster ride. That's because we're also working on a larger Heirloom system for a future patch, and we don't want to introduce an interim pricing scheme that could temporarily devalue Heirlooms or limit how we'd be able to give them out in the future. Rather than make players face buyer's remorse and hand-wringing decisions about when to buy, we're going to give the Justice Heirloom vendors some time off while we work on improving the system as a whole.
One thing to note is that this change only affects vendors that sell Heirlooms for Justice. PvE Heirlooms will still remain available at the Darkmoon Faire and the Trial of the Crusader, and PvP Heirlooms will continue to be available for Honor.
• PvP Season 15 comes to an end with the launch of Patch 6.0.2. (Date has not been determined yet.)
• Conquest Points will be converted into Honor Points, and any Honor above the cap of 4,000 will be converted into in-game currency at a rate of 35 silver per point.
• Season 15 items will have Conquest costs converted into Honor Points equivalent to their previous Conquest Point cost, with the exception of any items that have a rating requirement.
• Season 15 items with rating requirements will no longer be available for purchase.
• Note that Arena and Rated Battleground matches will not be available until PvP Season 16 begins.
The most common estimate for patch 6.0.2 looks like 10/13/14.
Oh...
There's too much going away too fast. I can't keep up with the losses.
I do agree, however, with the idea that Blizzard should provide rewards for subscribers within a time period, i.e. Darkspear Revolutinary/Hydra pet, but I disagree with how many radical losses are being taken with the prepatch.
During this entire time these are all parts of the game I missed out on simply because I paid them little to no attention. The only exception is Hexos, who I dedicated several hours to defeating one day out of raw hatred.
