...will entertain me in between my helping everyone and their mom with questions about how to make their resumes on our public computers.
And, begin.
And, begin.

Is that all you do? The librarians here have to spend time making sure the 12 year old boys aren't trying to look for porn on the public computers.

Fantastic.
Also, I just helped a 12 year old find biographies of the British Renaissance monarchs because "I just like reading about them." How fucking cool is that kid?!

Also, I am now blaming you, Thal, for the dick pictures I just found on public computer #6. Thank you very much.

If the people raise a great howl against my barbarity and cruelty, I will answer that war is war, and not popularity seeking.

For years now I keep hearing about these "book" things... and they are like non moving computer screens... can I get some confirmation on this?Yichimet wrote: Yeah, that happens now and again too. Sometimes I even...*drumroll*...help someone FIND A BOOK.

Books are awesome. I think our... 7+ cases of books verifies that fact.Xondor wrote:For years now I keep hearing about these "book" things... and they are like non moving computer screens... can I get some confirmation on this?Yichimet wrote: Yeah, that happens now and again too. I gotta say, working in a public library has pretty much reaffirmed my belief in humanity. I got my first grad degree in poetry and all we talked about was how no one read anymore (especially poetry), visual culture has taken over, blah blah blah, and it was really depressing. And lo, I barely write anymore save for what you guys see here on the boards which, while satisfying, isn't really what I was shooting for when I got that MFA. But then I finished my library science degree and got a job in a public library, and now I come to work every day and see dozens if not hundreds of people checking out books of all kinds. My National Poetry Month display during April actually saw a few books of POETRY being checked out. It's kind of crazy.
Granted, they're all reading James Patterson's 50th book published this year, but whatevs. THEY'RE READING!

That's my opinion of it too, "They may be reading crap, but at least their reading."Yichimet wrote: Granted, they're all reading James Patterson's 50th book published this year, but whatevs. THEY'RE READING!

I've tried to utilize books, but I have qualms with their graphic interface. Either their resolution is too high or the UI is just plain dreadful. As a former UI customization junkie, I can't do default UI books. Sorry.
Silly Rock no trick Kaz.
