What does it mean to be Grim? I have spoken with many different members of The Grim to see what their opinion of being Grim is. At first, I though being Grim was just being part of an elite group, with a similar thirst for the blood of Alliance. However, I have learned its much much more than that.
The first to be asked what it means to be Grim was Bloodscream, who I found fishing in a polluted lake in the Goblin Slums. I was quite intimidated by the Orc's name, but that was before I had the pleasure of meeting the gentle giant. I believe his answer had to be my personal favorite.
Bloodscream: "See, I believe dat if yer gunna be standin up to your neck in shit, you wanna be standin in the nastiest sum bitch yer can find... Hence, I am grim. Wit Alliance, 1 hand always speaks peace. Its the other you have to watch out for. They move like cowards. Grim is what stands in the shadow and waits. Set a shadow to catch a shadow. To be Grim means to fear nothing, to be ever watchful, and to remind Alliance someone knows about deh shadows... And we is waiting!!!"
The next to be asked was Malebrignon, a being I found to be very disturbed. Almost like an old man who had been working the same job for decades, and was spiteful to everyone who crossed his path.
Malebrignon: "Being Grim is different today than it was yesterday. I find our new blood lacking in seriousness. All mirth and no matter. Being Grim means knowing your role. Anyone deemed worthy of being Grim should be excellent at assessing their own abilities."
I got a similar but very basic answer from Servitor, who told me he was hired to count sacks. Being Grim is knowing where you belong and not having any issues doing your duties. I asked him if I may quote him and he just told me he was not that kind of Orc. Not sure exactly what "Quote" means in Orcish, but I don't believe I would be that kind of Orc either.
Deminthus gave me a response that was short and sweet.
Deminthus: "To be Grim is many things, but above all else, you must serve the Mandate.
Which brings me to Ashenfury's answer, another one of my favorites. "It is Grims believe that there are drastic and extreme steps to be taken to see the survival of the Horde through this troubled and war torn world and it is the Grims actions that will see them through." This was taken strait from the Mandate. He also said, "As Grim you must have you warpaint on at all times. If you are seen without warpaint, you are disgracing the Guild."
When I asked Ryanica she replied, " To Be Grim is not a choice, but a lifestyle. Grim to me is being able ta follow wit out question, ya commandahs orders, but act on your own as well. Dah Grim are few, strong, and proud. we will rid da world of dees monstahs. Only da strongest survive. And we are dah strongest. Gone are da days of peace wit Alliance. We will not know till dey are all wiped clean." Then she went on warning me to beware of the Highborne...
Qarosimae, My inquisitor, Told me, " Being Grim is not just wearing a tabord and fighting Alliance. It is being apart of a group. I'm not sure what it might be to be a family, but I surmise this may be what it is like When it comes down to it, I would give my life, my limbs..."
The last person I asked What it meant to them to be Grim was Abric. The General gave me a response that made me truly think about what it means to Grim.
To me, Being Grim means not only being part of a bloodthirsty, Alliance smashing, Monster killing, group of Brothers and Sisters. It is being one step ahead of the enemy. Standing in the shadows, and waiting, for that perfectly opportune moment to strike. Being Grim is knowing your role, weather its counting sacks or taking a wormy supplicant under your wing and teaching them the ways of the Grim. Being Grim is putting the Mandate first, memorizing its words and living to serve them. It is being apart of a brethren who supports one another, through thick and thin, to the very end, for life. We all strive for one goal and that is to achieve peace, through annihilation.
