Investigation into Elves

Xondor,

Per your request, I have spent some time studying Elves in general. The question you put to me: are Elves worth keeping around, or should they be dismembered and done away with?

I have observed three different types of Elves: the Night Elves that are members of the Alliance, the Blood Elves that are allied with the Horde, and the High Elves which are scattered here and there.  In my observation, any of them can be skilled fighters, or they can be aloof and non-combative.

The Night Elves can be formidable on the battlefield, but definitely not impossible to kill. They could be suitable allies in the fight against the random being that seeks to destroy all life, whether an Old God or the Lich King or what have you. However, I have learned that it was the Night Elves playing around with arcane magic, many thousands of years ago, that ripped the world in half. Since then, I don't think they have gotten much right. My verdict is that they are deserving of death without question.

The High Elves are former Night Elves who put themselves away from arcane magic after the Sundering (again, thank you, Night Elves for that) and have largely hidden or kept to themselves since then. They did contribute to the Alliance's war efforts in the first and second wars against the Horde (not that that's a good thing, but being a former Human I think it would be healthy for me to ride the fence on this particular issue), but mainly they don't seem to do much, other than hide in out of the way places like Azshara. However, they have a significant presence at the Argent Tournament grounds, to what purpose I'm not sure. Probably helping the Alliance. My verdict: kill them anyway.

The Blood Elves...former High Elves who were victims of the tragedies inflicted on them by Arthas. These mana junkies unfortunate Elves lost their Sunwell, the source of their magic, to Arthas, and many suffered because of it. Many of them followed Kael'Thas to Outland, where Illidan Stormrage (a Night Elf, imagine that) promised them much more powerful sources of magic to feed on to replenish themselves with. But as it turns out, it was fel magic, which was in a word BAD. And the magic that Kael'Thas brought back to Silvermoon turned out to be a Naaru, a living being of light. I have heard, although I did not witness it, that the leader of the Draenei recreated the Sunwell for the Blood Elves so they wouldn't have to suck on the Naaru...an interesting thing for an enemy to do, but I digress.

I have spent a bit of time with a few Blood Elves in The Grim. I was part of excursions into the Black Temple, the lair of Onyxia, the vaults in Wintergrasp, and a short trip into the floating citadel Naxxramas. Since we were there to do a job, there was not much talking, although I tried to start up conversations. Instead, I observed their actions. Frygyd was a bit cold to me, but what she lacked in conversation, she more than made up for in the damage she can deal to enemies. The other Blood Elves are similarly adept at their skills.

My opinion, Xondor, is that your leery opinion of all Elves is justified in all cases except the Blood Elves, whom I think are sufficiently skilled to aid the Horde, and The Grim especially, in its endeavors. I recommend letting the Blood Elves live, at least for now.
