Disturbances at the Scholomance

Official report created at the request of Greebo, as forwarded by him to the Shadowblade.

**
Syreena,
Please find enclosed a report from one of our new recruits - the mage Frya styled Frygyd. May I recommend the use of the High Inquisitor's network in the pursuit of more information? That there are goings on in the Scholomance is of no report. That there are goings on using traces of our magic against us and that the inhabitants are being used without their knowledge or consent is most definitely a concern.

Your humble and ob't sv't
Greebo, Twice-Made.

**

On the night of [Feb 17th] I answered a summons from Greebo via a warlocks summoning stone call.  However upon arriving at my destination it was not Greebo there but a circle of apparent necromancers forming a circle of binding about my person.  The circle prevented me from leaving both physically and magically.  Trapped.  There were a total of six forming the circle.  A seventh person in the room who I could not see but only heard as they were leaving stated the following details.

Their test was a success.
This test was occurring at the Scholomance.
I was not needed and would be killed and raised as a construct servant.
More fine tuning would be required to bring their ritual to the level they required which was to pinpoint specific enemies of their choosing for summoning.

Through some trickery I managed to breach the circle of holding and then dispatched my jailers.

There was no sign of the seventh person within the Scholomance and none outside the room of summoning within the Scholomance seemed to know of the ritual.  I asked very painfully but without any clues.

Discussing this event with Greebo he felt that perhaps the magical residue of a recent summoning stone of his which had summoned me may have been gathered by this unknown group.  The summoning stones do disperse physically but perhaps they leave behind traces that someone has managed to gather through some unknown means.

We had been at the Scholomance recently and perhaps this was the opportune time that was used for the gathering.  I felt nothing unusual at this gathering but a number of enchantments bound to my gear could have deafened me to something subtle in thei air being done.  Alirah professed to feel an odd magic when we were gathered and I have asked she look into it to see if she can discover anything further.

This ends my report.

- Frya

High Inquisitor Aquizit,

Review the attached report.  Send a team of magic users to Scholomance to investigate.  Have them report their findings.

Syreena,

I believe the high inquisitor already requested Alirah look into this as she stated she felt an odd magic around the Scholomance.

Yichimet hands the letter to the goblin courier. "50 silver for the delivery, and 10 gold to keep your little eyes off of it, greenskin," the tauren rumbles and hands over the coin. Why has the Magistrex not responded yet? he wonders.

Magistrex Alirah,

The Shadowblade has asked for further information on the magic you felt around Scholomance, and the ritual our sister Frya foiled. Time is of the essence. We need the answers soon if we are to fight this threat.

Respond soon. Peace through annihilation, sister.

Yichimet,

I have asked my father for further information regarding Caer Darrow. My report has been enclosed.

I owe many thanks to my father, for without him, I wouldn't have been able to put the puzzle together. The history records he was able to provide me with have proven extremely useful. I cannot guarantee how accurate they are, but perhaps I have been able to shed some light on this.

-----

- At some point, a runestone was placed here by the High Elves; I would assume for religious purposes. They were later changed to prevent the Burning Legion from finding out about the High Elves' use of arcane magics. As of today, the runestone no longer exists; it had been broken up and used to create the Altars of Storms, located within the Burning Steppes as well as the Blasted Lands.

Some extended research shows that an orc by the name of Gul'dan used the stone to grant magical powers to the Horde's ogre allies. Many of these altars were destroyed by Alliance during the Second War. A few of these altars still exist and are still very dangerous to those who dare approach them.

Perhaps a small fragment of the energy was what I sensed at Caer Darrow. The head culprit that summoned Frygyd to Scholomance had more than likely found traces of the summoning stone that Greebo placed to summon us there. Combined with what I believe to be the same magic from the altar, Frygyd was able to be summoned at his whim, and easily cover his tracks in the process in the form of convincing her that Greebo sent the summons.

- During the Second War, Uther the Lightbringer embarked on a mission here to help survivors after the attack, but had been ambushed by humans from the nearby Alterac. Following the aftermath of the war, Caer Darrow was restored. It was around this time that a family by the name of Barov had purchased the land. They also had posession of Brill, Southshore, and Tarren Mill. That land alone was not enough for them.

They sought out Kel'Thuzad, leader of the Cult of the Damned, and made a deal with him. The fate of the house had been sealed, and thus, Scholomance was created. The people within Caer Darrow survived there until the invasion of Lordaeron by the scourge. It was not long after Andorhal had been taken over that the town had come to an unfortunate end.

Scholomance teaches what I am assuming to be some form of the warlock arts. The school teaches several hundred students, many of whom do not survive training there. Only the strongest and most capable students pass the lessons that are taught. I do not know what practices are condoned here, nor do I ever wish to know. We are certainly better off not knowing the horrors contained within.

Alirah,

This information is excellent. I thank you for this bounty. May your hunt be long.

~Yichimet

Yichimet re-read the note from Alirah, the well-penned swirls of her handwriting giving the orcish language a sense of majesty. The news, however, made him anxious. That someone could so easily turn one of the Grim fel-user's power against them, using just a fragment of a runestone's power...

He sighed and grabbed for more parchment. There were more letters to write. Yichimet wasn't sure he cared for how easily he had taken to all this writing, this sitting at the center of a spider's web of names and stories. For the Mandate, he thought, and started to scribble.
