Oralech's collection

Unread post by Oralech Cinderfall »

While Oralech's burning desire for vengeance against the humans that wronged him and his people gave the mad warrior purpose, he often found himself without the joy or relief that a difficult life like his required. As a result, Oralech found himself turning to vices and boorish interests to keep himself going. In most cases, it was the usual kind of buffoonery that many people had come to expect from him- ranging from his love of alcohol to his reckless desire to experience the unknown.

However, one vice would eventually prove more important to Oralech than any of the others combined- a warped fascination with art, which he would cling onto as his means of expressing his twisted emotions. Over the years, the mad warrior would bring back several trophies from his conquests on the battlefield and make them into the many pieces of art that can be found within Oralech's gallery.

One area within his gallery remains relatively clean, however. Oralech devotes this area to pieces representing his new chapter in life among the Grim. These are just a few of the pieces that fill the new section:

Melting

Making a solid statue out of a man who had been melted from the inside by spider juices was a difficult task, but Oralech still wanted to make something out of the trophy that Riana had given him. He had no idea who the headless void elf was, nor did he really believe that it was his business to ask why she had asked him to decapitate the poor sap. Not that he cared anyhow- the man was a void elf, which made him worthy of death without any questions anyways. As far as Oralech cared, the decapitated corpse was just material for art.

Still the material was not easy to work with. When he had started the project, he tried using a rogue's paralyzing poison to keep the internally dissolving body in place, but found that there wasn't enough of the man's muscles left to solidify. Thus, the mad warrior was forced to resort to more dramatic methods- basilisk toxin, which was dangerous to even handle, but was more than worthwhile if it meant preserving his memories in eternal art.

Sinew and flesh slowly morphed into stone beneath Oralech's hands, yet still maintained its fluidity as he sculpted the body into the form that he wanted- kneeling, as if he was a prisoner awaiting his execution. It was how he had known the man in life, making it the perfect way to represent him in death. Before the stone completely solidified under the basilisk's petrifying toxin, the mad warrior got to work adding the final touches. Twin hatchets embedded themselves in the man's back, making the form of angelic wings while fine spider silk taken from Precious' cocoon draped the man in a fine cape.

Even then, Oralech was unsatisfied. It just didn't represent the day's events well enough- until a flash of inspiration hit him. Desperately grasping the last malleable pieces of the hardened statue, the artist threw aside pieces of his calcified flesh in a chaotic whirl- making it seem as if parts of the man's body were dropping off of him, yet unable to truly separate as flesh finally became hardened granite.

The final touch inspired the statue's name too: Melting. Now his outside appearance matched his insides.

Ah, the beauty that can be found in a burst of inspiration... Oralech though to himself, admiring his work, Maybe I should show this to Riana. It may increase my odds of survival when we next meet.

Judgment

Mixing poisoned ale into paints had been a difficult job at first. The stuff started off thin and watery, making anything that went onto Oralech's canvas seem rather souplike at first. However, the mad warrior would find better luck when he applied a little creative thinking- if the poison wouldn't mix with paint, perhaps it could act as a good solvent for the pigments.

As it happened, he was exactly right. The acidity of the blend that he had not given to Qabian was more than enough to dissolve through the powdery substance, and actually managed to make a relatively consistent blend when mixed together with the blood that continued to ooze from the wound that Umbral had inflicted earlier. It was a shame that he had to destroy the bindings that she had put on him with such care, but a greater purpose called to him- art was suffering, and his calling was demanding its tribute now.

Drop by drop, the mad artist's lifeblood fell into the blend, until it finally emerged as a finished crimson paint. Brilliant red then mixed perfectly with other pigments to make other blends. Yellows, oranges, purples, browns, and even black adorned Oralech's easel, waiting to be put to the portrait. However, just having the tools wasn't enough. The painting needed to be finished.

Luckily, Oralech had just the idea. This one would be a tribute to two of his fellow Grim- even if one of them was not in the frame at the time.

Within the frame, a pale armored Sin'dorei screamed a pained cry- clutching at her body as she tried in vain to swat and claw at the flames that wreathed her entire body. Yet, despite being the flames' victim, there was an unsettling wrongness about the woman as she struggled so desperately for her life. Jagged teeth, feral eyes and fingers that curved like talons gave the woman an animalistic appearance, which was punctuated by the blood that painted her face and hands.

To one viewer, it could be an innocent woman struggling desperately for life while being immolated. To another, it shows a beast being put down. Oralech kept the secret of the painting's true nature until his dying day.
