The Heist: The Thief

Unread post by Awatu »

Appearing at the residence of Syreena Shadowblade, a bound scroll the appears protected by numerous wards and runes can be found in a rather obvious place.
To Whom it May Concern, that being Syreena Shadowblade,

Your expertise is requested in an effort to infiltrate Kirin Tor storage facilities concerning powerful arcane arts and secrets. Your knowledge and skill will be called forth in this elaborate plan to recover specific tomes of great power. While the Kirin Tor is a "neutral" faction, they have a heavy bias towards the Alliance (despite recently removing one Jaina Proudmoore from their higher ranks). In order to maintain Horde superiority, we must ensure that they lack access to these powerful spells.

Arcanum Temporum - This tome is a collection of some of the more powerful time-based arcane magics collected from Suramar. Individually, the spells themselves are rather standard. However, under proper conditions and combined together, they prove incredibly powerful.

Of Dragons and Magic - Details regarding the Blue Dragonflight concerning Kalecgos' ascension and detailed maps of the leylines of Azeroth. The maps themselves are of greater importance as we have little need for empowering a dragon. Empowering spells through manipulation of leyline energies results in some rather... interesting effects.

Archmage Antonidas' Spellbook - Perhaps the most heavily guarded tome, within are held a myriad of secrets reserved only for the upper echelon of the Kirin Tor. Any secrets held within may be applied to numerous spells and further researched to grant higher power to soldiers of The Grim.

The Effects of Arcane and Fel Magic Upon the Elements - A rather common tome, this one is available for those within the Kirin Tor to view at their leisure. At the very least, we require a copy of this time. Understanding how magic mixes will be crucial to future endeavors.

Your primary role will be infiltration and retrieval of said tomes. Specifically, you will be expected to bypass any and all security measures employed by the Kirin Tor mages. You will be aided by other Grim operatives that shall be revealed to you in time. Currently, your point of contact is Qabian Grimfire, who has received a letter similar to this already. Qabian will be expected to offer information regarding the Kirin Tor, assist in getting you inside, and assist in making you aware of magical countermeasures once inside the vaults. Your task is perhaps the most dangerous one as failure may result in severe injury or death. Your identity need not be kept secret, however expect to keep Kirin Tor guards off of your trail. Killing guards may put them on a higher level of alert, so use caution and discretion.

Further instructions will come in time. Seek out Qabian Grimfire.

Peace Through Annihilation.
The scroll is rolled with a blank piece of parchment, empowered with similar runes as well as a sigil of transportation. Safe correspondence could be engaged with the use of this second blank scroll.

Syreena returned to the Grim hall in Brill with a sack in her hand and sand on her armor. As she approached her quarters, she saw the scroll leaning against the bottom of the door. She reached down and scooped up the scroll and then entered her room. She tossed the sack to the floor, leaving it to the mercy of Ber and Rubble, and opened the scroll.

Being unschooled in magic, the little rogue did not even realize how fortunate she was that the scroll was meant for her. The protective runes and wards, however, allowed her access to the letter within. She perched against the arm of a chair and read aloud to her pets, who had managed to pull a dusky purple robe from the sack and were playing tug-o-war with it.

"...expertise requested...Kirin Tor," she scowled. "Recover tomes...blah blah blah....Proudmoore bitch.....Horde superiority....

"A book, another book, another book, and still another book. What is it with mages and their books?" she asked amidst the sound of ripping cloth.

She read the rest of the letter quietly. There was no signature. Was it from the Commander? Who else would think to order her around so? But sneaking around and stealing quietly didn't seem to be Awatu's style. She stared at the letter, as if looking for clues about the sender. Blood trickled, unnoticed, from her bottom lip where she absently chewed it as she thought. If it wasn't from the Commander, she felt under no obligation to accept this task.

It sounded challenging though, and she enjoyed testing her stealth abilities. Besides, she was curious, and if this ended badly, well, it wouldn't be the first time her curiosity had gotten her into trouble.

At least Qabian was involved. Maybe he had more information. Even though he was an elf, she'd acquired a measure of respect for him when he let her cut off one of his ears. With the scroll rerolled with the additional blank piece of parchment, she tucked them inside her armor and headed for the door again to go find Qabian.

"You two behave," she said to her pets, who were still shredding the robe to bits. "I'm off on another robbery mission."
