The blood moon shines down it's light upon The Hinterlands. Two trolls rise out of the water onto a small island near the water falls that empty into the ocean.
Primal Torntusk looks to the young trolless of 17 years. "Gaze upon the Bloodmoon child, it will be the last night that you have no name."
The trolless looks up. "What name have you chosen for me, mother?"
Primal Torntusk pauses. "My child, you are a child of the tribes. I am not your blood mother. Although I have raised you as I have raised your mother. It is her right to name you."
The trolless looks to Primal Torntusk, "But," she pauses letting the shock hang.
A moment later, a voice speaks, "It would seem there are secrets even I don't know."
Primal Torntusk spins and backs a step, putting a protective arm in front of the trolless pushing her away from the new voice that she recognizes.
"What? Afraid of an old hag?" the female voice cackles.
Primal Torntusk backs another step away, almost pushing the trolless directly behind her now, "What are you doing here Hexx? Only a fool would ever turn their back towards you."
The trolless stares in shock, seeing Primal Torntusk who never stepped back from anything, stepping away in a defensive posture from an old hag of a troll. She says in a soft voice, "I thought those stories were only meant to scare us into doing your bidding."
Hexx cackles, "Trust your elders girl, the world is a harsh place."
A second voice sounds as the last troll finally appears from behind the ruins. "Enough grandmother, Ju should ave figured it out by now." As Chaindog steps up beside the trolless from behind.
Hexx looks to her granddaughter Chaindog, and to the trolless standing right beside Chaindog. She suddenly seeing the resemblance and laughs a loud laugh that ends in a coughing fit. "You sneaky girl. How? When? and better yet, why?"
"I be fulfilling mother's wish. She spoke to me in me visions. Would not stop until me did it." Chaindog says.
The trolless turns to look at Chaindog and almost sees a mirror image of herself. "Mother?" she asks?
"We all be ju mothers." Chaindog says looking at the trolless. She points to Primal Torntusk, "She raised ju." She points to herself, "I be jur blood mother." and she finally points to Hexx. "She be jur great grandmother."
Hexx harumphs. "Where is her father? He should be here for the rights!"
Chaindog says, "He objected to da ceremony when he found out, well, everything." Chaindog shrugs, "So me brought da next best thing." She says with a grin on her face as she unwraps the leather bundle in her hand exposing a heart still sticky with blood.
"Enough talk, we be doing dis." Chaindog says. She hands the heart to Hexx, "Voodoo." she says. She moves the trolless to the peak of the tiny island. She places Primal Torntusk to the trolless' right, a sign of trust and pride in raising her daughter. She places Hexx behind the trolless for the voodoo for the ceremony. Chaindog stands in front of the trolless facing her.
"Begin grandmother." Chaindog says and Hexx starts the ancient and powerful voodoo.
Chaindog pulls a vial of blood from her pouch and dips a finger in it. She marks the symbol for father on the trolless' forehead. The spirit appears on the trolless' left bound and on his knees. She tosses the vial over her shoulder done with it. She then pulls Finkle's Skinner and cuts her own finger, marking the symbol for mother over top of the symbol for father. A little bit of blood drips down the face of the trolless.
She raises her hands to the blood moon and yells, "Me names ju, Zandaka!" Hexx finishes the voodoo expecting the ceremony to just end, but unexpectedly, a beam of moon light strikes down from the sky like a starfall, except it's red from the blood moon. Both Chaindog and Primal Tortusk are thrown back to the ground. Hexx's voodoo saves her from falling but only barely.
Then there is only silence in the night sky as Zandaka stands bathed in the blood moon's light as it fades a few moments later. Chaindog and Primal Torntusk stand back up. Zandaka askes, "What does my name mean? I know 'aka' means daughter of, but what does Zand mean?"
"Me mother's wish has been fulfilled now. Zand is of the Zandali, our ancient race, da race of all trolls. Ju now has da blood of all four types. Desert, Jungle, Forest and Ice. Me as da blood of Jungle and Forest, jur father Desert an Ice."
"But which tribe am I of then?" asks Zandaka. "Vilebranch? Revantusk? or ..."
"Ju'r are of all trolls daughter. Ju ave Vilebranch from me mother, Darkspear from me father, Sandfury from jur father's mother, and da ice from from jur father's father. Every 7 years da tribes meet in Zandalar. It was da only way to find da right blood for dis. Trust in dat jur father was da warrior of legends." Chaindog tsks emulating Hexx, "Ask no more, because me will give no more. Also, no bothering Primal Torntusk nor jur grandmother." Pointing to Torntusk and Hexx. "Blood oaths be given, or me rip apart dere souls. Respect da old ways, and da new ways."
"But Revantusk?" Zandaka asks.
"Me needed da tribe allied to da horde. Only through da horde can our race survive. Da demon invasion won't last forever. After dat, den wat? War again between da horde an da alliance will rise again. Only da strong survive, remember it, trust in it. Only peace through annihilation. Learn it now."
"Jur first step as an true troll now be getting to da Darkspear Tribe. Is time for jur training to begin. Get dere alive and me see if ju worthy. Me will be asking a member of da Grim to mentor ju." Chaindog says.
"Why not you?" asks Zandaka.
"Ju ave a place in me heart my child." Chaindog says as she embraces Zandaka in a hug. "I cannot train ju as me will show ju softness. Dis world is harsh and unforgiving. Go now."
Hexx seems to nod approval and then hearths out. Primal Torntusk says, "Revantusk is your tribe, now and forever. Use our name if you must, but only with pride." and she hearths out.
As Chaindog and Zandaka stand alone Chaindog says, "Fail and die alone. Turn traitor and me will skin ju alive meself. Remember, ju not me only child." Chaindog then hearths out leaving Zandaka standing alone and weaponless in The Hinterlands.
"Well, gnome giblets..." Zandaka says in soft voice of a cuss.
