Skalla's first Trial

Unread post by Skalla »

Skalla waited with bated breath as the fight promoters slowly counted down the time to her next match. She checked her gun for what seemed like the thousandth time, her sweaty, faintly trembling fingers checking every knob and setting.
"Okay," she said to herself, "no sweat... just do what Kiannis said... bring back some ally skulls for the Boss man..."
Even so, she found herself less than assured. This challenge was harder than she thought; the new combos Kiannis had drilled her in far more complex than her typical routine of simply sicking her mechano-wolf Shredder at her enemies.
For the first time she stood alone, completely dependent on her own strength and not that of others or some clever contraption she had devised. It was a new, terrifying sensation, but she was determined to succeed... if for no better reason than to avoid the wrath of Lilliana. That troll scared the sprockets out of her!
"And for our next challenger... SKALLA BLASTSPROCKET!" shouted the announcer, a fellow goblin by the sound of him. "I'm tellin' ya folks, this gal just doesn't know when to quit! This is her fifth match tonight, and somehow she's still standin'! I gotta admire her, but my money's still on the other guy TUROK MULGRAVE!"
The Drenai that approached her in the center of the ring was the biggest son-of-a narru she had ever seen, but perhaps that was simply her imagination; a lot of things look huge when your little over 3 feet tall. He strutted to the center of the ring, his face a rock wall of solid indifference, and swung a massive two-handed battle hammer at a nearby boulder, reducing it to powder without ever breaking his stride.
"Combatants, prepare yourselves!" the announcer shouted.
"Hey, T-Turok... is...is that a squid on your face or.. I mean... your mama is so fat, she thinks apex crystals are..."
"FIGHT!"

So the one on one approach to gathering ally heads didn't work out so well. Rather than bringing pride and skulls to the Grim, Skalla had found herself spending her evenings in bitter defeat with her green tussle resting on her newly invented electric ice P.A.C. In those moments, whilst fighting off shame and the constant fear of electrocution, she had lots of time to think. Why was she facing these ally scum bags head on? It really wasn't the brightest idea, when you think about it. Her skill set depended on anonymity, waiting till the right moment and coming at her target from an angle of her own choosing.
As soon as her welts healed and her bones knitted back together, she made her way to the Orgrimmar conscript house and shipped out to the battlefield on the Arathi Highlands.
The Horde and the Alliance have been fighting over the resources in this territory for years. All around her the air was rent with the sounds of clashing metal, screams, and, even more beautiful, the hollow booms and bursts of dynamite. Ah, was there anything more wonderful than blasting powder? This night, however, she chose a weapon with a little more...subtlety. She had trained in all other Hunter disciplines, and Kianis had kindly vouched for her prowess to the Inquisitors, but now was time for her to specialise in close combat.
Talonclaw was supposedly a legendary weapon held in high esteem by the Highmountain tauren of the Broken Isles. Skalla was willing to test that. The bone and wood of the polearm seemed to thrum beneath her slender green fingers, but she would still take the solid force of good ol' fashioned blunderbus any day of the week.
She crouched in the green, rocky terrain, picking her targets carefully as they ran by. A dwarf hunter and a gnome mage darted past towards the farm. Too risky, she thought. Her battle mates were far behind, she needed to pick one out on their own... there! In the bushes! A large sabertooth, obviously a druid of some kind, was prowling through towards the Blacksmith. Just as quickly as it came, it melted in to the terrain. Skalla smiled. "Oh no, you're not gonna get away that easy. Here, kitty!" She tossed a flare, lighting up the night sky and revealing the sabertooth once again. Without a moments hesitation, she hurled the pole arm, effectively piercing the cats hide, and pole-vaulted over the rocky rise towards her target. The cat swiped viciously, its claws tearing in to Skalla's armor as she pulled her spear free and stabbed and slashed again in retaliation. Finally, with one last jab, the cat gave a cry of agony and collapsed. The druidic magic faded, revealing the corpse of a night elf female. "You put up one hell of a fight, sister!" Skalla said, slightly winded. "But now, say cheese!" She turned around and took an instant photo of her and her target on her new S.E.L.F.I.E device, to prove to the Inquisitors that she had indeed met their challenge. Just before the flash went off, however, the night elf's flesh evaporated in a bright white light, becoming a sentient whisp that flew off across the field and leaving nothing but the bones. "Son of a socket wrench!" she swore. "I guess... bones will have to do."
