Jeordra rinsed her hands in the small basin in the kitchen, placed the pitcher back on the shelves and scrubbed the dried blood from her cuticles with a stiff brush. She looked closely at her stained hands and mourned the days when they were their usual pristine white. It had been less than a week since her punishment had begun - a punishment she had not taken lightly. She had been assigned to the kitchen with Zolen to teach him to respect his superiors. With a lot of hard work and little sleep, she feared she would only teach him to respect her axe if she were forced to spend another moment with him. Instead, she had sent him to Goldshire to pick up some more salt for preserving the meat from the kills they had bagged with Captain Illiana and Eupraxia nearly every night this week. Jeordra was finally enjoying a little silence.

Though Jeordra had always enjoyed cooking, the volume of work and the aspect of the punishment had turned her joy into a chore. The sense that she had failed in her duties leeched her enjoyment out of everything. The once fragrant smells of cooking meat sickened her. The laughter from her fellow Guild members coming from the other rooms sounded like taunts. Even the warm embrace of the Garrison Barracks where she lived felt so like a cold shoulder that she had moved out and taken up residence at her old haunts. She feared what would happen if she failed to discipline Zolen and teach him to respect his chain of command.

Jeordra knew the simple giant hadn't meant to harm with his words when he suggested that Commander Demeri was incomplete as a woman without a man, but the words had stung her and angered their commander. The brute truly did not understand that the dynamics between men and women were not what he was used to and that it was up to him to learn to adjust. She cursed herself for brushing off his sleights in the past because it taught him it was alright to treat her as inferior. Jeordra vowed to keep her resolve to not allow him to walk over her again. If that meant she had to be tough and unyielding, then so be it. She was a Sergeant. A leader of soldiers. To be an effective leader, she needed to stop trying to be his friend.

A scraping of a foot on the stone floor startled Jeordra back to the moment. She stood and whirled around ready to demand an answer as to why someone was skulking at the doorway. Jeordra flushed when she realized it was Captain Illiana standing at the doorway - the Kaldorei were always too quiet. Jeordra noted that her Captain looked especially lovely this day in a flowing blue gown and her hair done up elegantly, though she said nothing as she stood at attention when addressing the officer.

"Good day Captain," she spoke carefully as she did often these days when addressing her superiors. So as not to appear to be lying down on the job, she added, "I was just finishing up storing the meat from the most recent catch."

*Illiana stood there, watching the draenei snap to attention. She was still not used to what was supposed to be automatic for the rank of Captain. If it was one thing Demiri brought to this guild it was structure and discipline. It was needed. Even among a family of men, the parents were the leaders of their family. They taught their young everything from life to consequences of actions and words, and of love. Everybody has their role; everybody has a job to do to maintain a family. In this family, with war breathing down everyone's neck and what lay ahead of them, everybody was a soldier.*

Jeordra, at ease. *She looks her over and takes a step back, making sure not to soil her dress.* How are your tasks coming? I take it from the mess that you still have hours ahead of you.

*Before Jeordra could speak she continues* Have a seat. I have a question for you. *She watches as the draenei finally turns to find a chair. She pulls it out and sits, awaiting her question.*

What meaning does leadership have for you? I would hope after a few days some clarity would be bestowed upon you *she asks smiling, awaiting.*

Jeordra sat in the second least dirty chair in the kitchen, reserving the least filthy chair for the Captain and her lovely gown. She looked at the Kaldorei and thought about the question. What meaning does leadership have to you?, she had asked. Jeordra thought for a moment to formulate an answer.

"To me, Leadership is being one your troops will follow," Jeordra answered. "Leading troops is about being the first into the fight and last one out. The one who ensures their soldiers have everything they need to be successful warriors. To accomplish missions, they must have proper equipment as well as guidance. Guidance in knowing what their role is in the battle as well as how to conduct themselves off the battlefield, Ma'am."

Jeordra took the scarf she had been using to keep her hair out of the way as she worked off her head leaving unruly stray strands to fly free around her face. She fidgeted with the scarf for a moment, then continued. "A leader gives orders, Captain, but the most important signals come from her actions."

She set the scarf down on her lap and smoothed it out, carefully. She then looked at Captain Illiana to attempt to read her feelings about her answer on the Kaldorei's face.
