A Lonely Night in Feralas - Lunataures Trial of Sacrifice

Unread post by Lunataure »

Lunataure sat quietly on a high bluff in Feralas restringing her bow. Well she was actually pondering her last trial for The Grim while playing with the string of her bow and staring out at the tops of the trees. Luna had been born here in Feralas, at least she believed she was born here. All she really knew was that she was found as a baby just outside of Camp Mojache. She was taken to Thunder Bluff to be raised by the Elders and very little was ever said about what might have become of her parents.

When she had first become a spy she had been stationed in Camp Mojache and she attempted to learn more about her past. There were several stories including that her parents had been killed by alliance and another that her mother had been a Grimtotem shaman that had fallen in love with a Horde hunter from Camp Mojache. The more she dug the more convoluted the stories became. Luna managed to make some very close friends at the camp and one day a package appeared at the entrance to her tent.

Inside the package was a note and a locket. The locket had two pictures in it. She recognized one of the pictures as Magatha Grimtotem but the other was a younger female tauren that looked vaguely familiar. Luna had dealt with Magatha in the past when she had tried to take over Thunder Bluff by poisoning Garrosh’s weapon which caused the death of Cairne Bloodhoof. Luna was at Baines side when he had taken back Thunder Bluff and she had personally put an arrow in Magatha as she fled the city. The note simply said, “Your past is darker than you would want to know”. Did this mean that she was some how related to Magatha? and who was this young tauren who was also pictured in the locket?

These revelations had come to her just a day before she received word from Orgrimmar that a new land had been found that she was needed to go immediately and make sure it didn’t fall into the Alliances hands. While fighting in the new found land of Pandaria she had been tasked to assassinate the leader of a group called The Grim. After infiltrating the group she found them to be honorable and she herself agreed with their mandate of Peace through annihilation. She had instead returned to the person who had hired her and made him disappear so to not raise suspicions. Luna came clean to The Grims leadership letting them know about her true past and that she was 100% supporting them.

Time had come for Luna to do her last trial and finally be a full member of The Grim. The trial involves sacrificing something to show that you now have no ties other than The Grim. Luna had been struggling for weeks trying to decide what she would give up. She had considered her most beloved pet, Fluffy. Fluffy was a crocolisk that had once belonged to her closest confidant, Arrtemis. Arrtemis an Orc hunter that she had known since childhood had fallen in battle and Fluffy nearly starved to death protecting his body until Luna finally found him. Once Arrtemis was laid to rest Luna camped at his grave for nearly a month, mourning and talking to her old friend. During that time she had been able to nurse Fluffy back to health and when Luna was finally ready to move on Fluffy had followed. Luna decided she couldn’t do that to Fluffy because she didn’t think he could withstand losing two masters in his sad little life.

As she sat there now staring out at the stars above Feralas she thought again of the locket. It was the key to unlocking her past. The Grim had become her future and this locket tied her to what promised to be a dark and possibly horrible past. Could she forget about his journey she had taken to find her family and her past? It certainly would be a worthy sacrifice, to abandon the notion that she had family out there to find and to claim The Grim as her only family. Her heart was torn because she had always longed to know from where she had come from and who her parents had been. The thought that she was related to that horrible Magatha hadn’t even deterred her but now she was considering giving it all up.

While sitting there a voice came across her hearthstone. “Luna? Are you there?”. The voice was that of Darkhide an old Druid friend who had also joined The Grim. “Yes of course I am”, responded Luna. “I was just wondering when you would be joining us in battle again? I was rather missing you and your requirements for extra healing. It has all been a little too easy lately.” “Don’t taunt me druid I will return soon. The hunt always calls to me.” Darkhide finished by saying, “I will be watching for you! My sister!”. Luna’s hearted stopped. Not just Darkhide but all of The Grim had truly become her family. What did her birth family mean to her? Nothing!

Luna realized that the decision had already been made. She was going ask for meeting and she was going to destroy the locket and forever turn her back on her past. Luna jumped to her feat and called her mount and headed back to Pandaria with a new feeling of peace in her heart.
