From the moment I took my first breath I was a slave to the Darkmoon Family, though most of my people would say this isn't a bad thing as our culture has prophecies about how we fell from grace to become workers to the Darkmoon and how we will one day rule our world again. My family would never rule again or be free unless we took action to make things happen. My life as a slave could have been worse, stories are told of brutal or depravity and isolation of slavers throughout the lands are much worse. Though I was grateful for the fair treatment and teaching our masters gave us I like many of my generation learned to despise our masters for the oppression of certain gifts. Although the Darkmoon Family encourage our culture, artistry and our gift for learning new techniques and technologies quickly, they chose those which to allow us to learn, allowing them to control us even further while still turning a profit. More than once I was caught with a discarded piece of technology I wasn't suppose to have, and though the beating was never severe enough to keep me from my work, I soon learned to follow their way or at least make it appear as though I do. I learned quickly how to keep to myself just enough to be able to work on those little things that I found but was not allowed to have or use. All the while getting on the boss's good side so as to be allowed to attend the bazaar he held in a work capacity but allowed a chance about other people through observation. As I grew I wanted more than just a life of controlled information I wanted to obtain my freedom, learn a trade to give myself a way to provide for and keep my freedom from ownership. This would be obtained for the most part in ways that I could yet fathom when I was just a child.
The nice thing about the world fair was that I and a few others were allowed to work the market and talk to other races if we knew the language from the other clans and we were allowed to trade things we had learned. Most of the day had past, but had been filled with hearing of things going on off world, trading some information and techniques for improving productivity and even seen a few new devices others had found and were working to understand. I was heading back to my master part of the market when I heard him talking with another person in almost angry tones. I stop and ducked behind one of the tents as they were speaking trader, they were assuredly arguing about an agreement they had made months before. I heard my master refer to him by a name I believe it was Akasha, it seemed familiar but it was never business to remember the names or the faces, just the work. Akasha, no, not this girl she is much too short and entirely not the one we agreed on for the information you requested. The hot tempered master took extreme pride in his comments to the Human. I care not of which you speak if you don't see her here or recall the name then this is who you will get for your bride and partner.
My masters comment about someone being traded for information to be this man's wife and partner, it interested me to no end, in fact I came out from behind the tent to see who was being offered. I slowly strolled over as quietly and unseen as possible, most people don't even bother to notice another human, a Gilnean in my case. Akasha raised his voice even louder, maybe this information is more use to some of your rivals and they can maybe come through and get me the girl through force, as you know very well of whom I speak. She is the silver skinned girl; yes I know the one your showing me is as well but not this one. She's one of your taller girls about seven-two meters in height, slate gray hair with just a touch of wheat, and those violet eyes. As I heard this description I stopped dead in my tracks and started to turn to head off in the other direction. No, this can't be they can't be talking about me, what about my parents how could I be trade for information I was still young. As I started to swiftly walk the other direction I heard my master's voice call out my name. Jaya, come here now I quickly traversed the distance between me and my master, keeping my head hung not wanting to make eye contact with anyone.
Jaya, stand up straight and lift your head let this trader see you, the boss bellowed. I could feel the tension in the air coming from the trader, though not wanting to I lifted my head and stood upright. Looking at the man my master called Akasha I was astounded he was human, as I looked into his eyes his face softened and he spoke in a much more relaxed tone. Yes, this is the girl, Jaya how could I have forgotten that name, though I have not forgotten you for months. Turning his attention back to my master, with his more gruff voice, you have the information you requested and this is the human wanted, our business is done, unless you intend to with hold the payment for the information? "No, the information is in order, and Jaya is your, to do with as you wish. Snorting, the boss turned and looked at me, Jaya you will do as you're told just because I am no longer your master does not make you free.
I learned that day information was a powerful possession, and a high price to pay for a slave or as some would think of us a worker for the Darkmoon Faire, though I was no longer a slave, Akasha had told me that day I was to be his wife and one day his business partner. As the years past he taught me the business of information broker and actually began to include me in and treat me as a partner in the business. Though there were still deals he would neglect to tell me about or let me in on and if I had asked about them, well I might as well been a slave. I learned long ago that it is best to appear compliant in times of aggression, though one can only bottle so much in side before taking measures to balancing the books.
For many months Akasha had been working on a deal with a noble from Stormwind, and he refused to let me attend meetings with him, not entirely unusual but I got the feeling this was not normal information for money deal. While finalizing a few transactions in the taverns a few weeks before this big hushed deal Akasha had, I overheard some chatter between a couple of small time local thugs about a questionable cargo. Something about some needed recourses and equipment was being diverted by a high ranking individual; they would be making their way in to Horde hands rather than the Alliance. Though Akasha and I took no side on things as we just worked in the industry of collecting and providing information it made me more curious about what deal he had going with this Noble.
After few days I finally couldn't stand being kept out of a deal any longer, it had been years since my husband had treated me as if I were a slave why now. Akasha, I need to know what is going on with this shipment we are delivering in a few weeks. It is unlike you to take and actual cargo and let alone keep me out of what we are handling. Jaya, I have told you this shipment is not your concern now let it go. No, what is in this cargo, we are supposed to be partners and not keep each other in the dark on these things, how am I suppose to help you if things go wrong? Why are you willing to risk all we have built for something this Noble would surely sell you out for? I could see him growing impatient with how I questioned him, he spoke in a strong deep tone, Enough, you know not of what you speak and have no say in this matter, and I will risk whatever I like as I have built what I have not us. Now let it go before you make me angry. He had not spoken to me in that tone or that way for many years, it was as if he viewed me as a slave again. As he turned to walk away I put my hand on his arm to turn him back to me, as I did so he did what he has only done once before. I felt the knuckles from the back of his hand make contact with my cheek, I could feel the blood rushing to the impact area as I crumpled to the ground. Now look what you made me do Jaya, enough with these questions this shipment is not yours to worry about. If you do not learn your place in this matter and fast you will find you will be my wife and my slave and no longer my partner in these affairs. As I picked myself up off the floor, I heard his boots echoing down the hall. I swore to myself the first time he hit me it would be the last, as was this risky deal. It only takes a little information in the right assassins hands, a bit of planning, and a big payout to make a transfer go very wrong. There were already many sides that didn't want this deal to happen but he didn't let me tell him that, well that will be his undoing.
The whispers outside Stormwind was there was a big deal happening between a noble and Horde and Aksaha was brokering it, many of the gangs were beyond mad that this was not their deal. The gangs would show to lay claim to the cargo, only question would be who would make it out with reputation and standing in tack, let alone their life. There was some speculation that night as to how many assassins there were and who hired who and who might have been the main target. As Aksaha was a broker of deals no one suspected he was the target, though was that he was caught in the cross fire from the gangs trying to take out the assassins that had taken out a few of the leaders. When it came time to sort out what happened and Aksaha's affairs, the Stormwind Captain who I had worked closely with for year made sure to move things quickly, allowing me the collect the estate put the messy death of my husband behind. I packed up my things and moved the money around never all in one place, one of Aksaha many rules for deals to always make sure to have funds where ever information might lead us. Well information and a new start as a broker for me was grabbing the first ship to Booty Bay. It was not Stormwind but with all of the traffic there will be lots of information to be gathered from through the lands, and information is money, money is power.
Booty Bay and its economy had treated me well over the year, allowing me to grow my financial security, also allowing for many new contacts to be formed and to strengthen old as well. Though the challenge of acquiring information had started to fade, so to keep things interesting as time passed I started to add in a few cargo shipments here or there, the information might have already been headed to one world so why not double up and drop a few pieces of cargo as well. I once mentioned to a client, What I do is facilitate the movement of certain products from the hands of those who make it into the hands of those who want it. It's not always pretty but it's necessary. With that started the workings of making increases in the risk factor of our deals. Sometimes the cargo was nothing more than food for his out posts, sometimes some armor, and then there were times I knew not to ask. Looking over the manifest in the morning I knew there was a full day ahead filled with meetings with clients, oh to have a partner again. I miss the team work of the deals Aksaha and I use to make, but he over extended himself with the delivery of that cargo, and with me. Nobody seemed to check into the role I played with the contract killing of my former husband it was as I had hoped. Nobody cared that a broker went missing, I was just glad I got out of Stormwind first. One thing was for sure high risk cargo was where the real money was at, Aksaha and I both knew it but he was willing to risk everything for the big pay out, the one to make enough to get out of information brokering, though I knew there was never going to be enough money to make retirement happen. And the deals would only get more and more risky and with Aksaha's temper situations would escalate. I looked back over the manifest, my thoughts wondered, it was time I raised my own stakes maybe one of the old contacts here in Booty Bay could get me a cut on a high risk deal see if I could disposition it better then my former husband.
The deal that I made with one of my old contacts was ready, the full operation took two months to plan we had everything covered. What I did not know was that Booty Bay was about to become a distant world to me. There was one key element that was missing, one I would find out almost too late. The day started like another before a big transaction, check and recheck the cargo, tie up some loose ends with other deals, and checking the cargo one more time before meeting the other dealer to take them to the cargo.
Heading down the ramp leading to the lower level of the warehouse, I can hear faint banging noise, glancing at my manifest there should be no one inside with the cargo. Removing my dagger from its holster, leaning against the wall preparing to turn around the corner to confront my vandals, when I hear footsteps coming down the ramp. Rising my dagger to take out anyone who might try and jump me from behind when around the corner comes and old Stormwind Captain contact. Taking a deep sigh, What are you doing here? Holding a finger to his lips as to silence me, then whispering in hushed tones, Apparently saving your life in the nick of time as usual, did you see who was in there? Leaning into the room I see about ten men standing around my cargo I was about to deliver, when I see Aksaha's old business partner and friend, a man that despised me for coming between him and his business partner.
Glancing back over at my friend he gave me a look I didn't want to see, one that said oh yes he knows it was you, with a hand signal to depart we retreated up the ramp as quickly as possible. Hitting the top of the ramp I was about to bolt for my apartment when my friends hand landed on my arm holding me in place. Jaya, you're about to disappear, don't ask why don't ask how for once take the advice, as he handed a map for me to follow heading toward the shores of Lordaeron. Looking back over my shoulder to see all that I was leaving behind, it was either death with no hope or a new death with possible life, she had to take the risk and hope that leaving her past was the right thing to do she also knew that she would once again have some type of servitude tied to her will but there was no way out of this mess now. She would go to the shores of Lordaeron and willing serve, only this time I would be Nicat Sajan. She had many doubts, if they would even take her. When I looked back to my friend he was gone, dropping my manifest and any other paper work from my now previous life.
