A Grim Understanding
Soerinth, September 26, 2006
A simple house on the edge of Brightwater Lake
Soerinth walked into the house that he shared with Versklavt. The
simple worn table with only two chairs and covered in books and
pages that belonged to him, as well as the weapons and armor that
Versklavt had strewn about the table for both mending and
sharpening. He smiled softly under his cowl as he heard Naraxis,
Versklavts spider, crawl about the rafters and attempt to lower
herself slowly behind him and frighten him as was their usual
game. He waited for the proper time and when it was upon him
turned around suddenly and poked the swollen abdomen of the red
and green spider.
"Good to see you Naraxis" he said softly, his cowl blowing slowly
out as the words whispered from his mouth. It clicked
ecstatically to him as she dropped to the floor and skittered
over to the table appearing to jump in place waiting for him to
take his usual place at the table. He chuckled softly and slowly
made his way over to the table, his eyes glowing dimly above the
cowl as the only thing visible on his head. He sat down softly,
neurotically picking flesh chunks from his robes and placing his
Soul Harvester next to him at the table. He looked over at it
hearing the words it whispered to him. "Yes I know, I know. It's
ok, I promise."
Naraxis lay on the floor next to him, and slowly began to inch
one of it's many legs onto his lap without his notice. He smiled
softly again as he had expected such an action. He rested his
right hand on the leg and began to rub up and down on the leg.
Naraxis seemed to quiver with pleasure and settled down to sleep.
Soerinth turned his head to the table and examined some of the
pages and worn books he was attempting to repair on the table.
Some in demonic others in Draconic, and some Elvish. He looked
over at his Soul Harvester, "Lithitalia, I know what I'm supposed
to do. Now be quiet and let me do so." He pulled some of the
books closer to him and then sighed heavily and pushed them back.
"Lithitalia, I will do it. Just give me time to do so myself." He
continued to rub idly on the leg that lay across his lap and
looked around the house that belongs to him and his wife. Two
chairs sat unused in the corner covered in webs, if ever guest
were to arrive. A single window looked out onto a lake that
Versklavt loved so much. Behind him were the two guest rooms for
members of the Grim who wished to stop by on their many journeys,
and in front of him lay the room that he had shared many a night
with his huntress. He looked in the direction of the room and
sighed heavily.
"Lithitalia, leave me alone." he suddenly roared at his Soul
Harvester, and then hurled it across the room and listened to it
clatter loudly against the wall. His sudden out burst startled
Naraxis, and she skittered away clicking at Soerinth, escaping
into the dark rafters where she was comfortable. He called after
her retreating personage, "I'm sorry Naraxis." He walked slowly
over to the window and looked out making out the faint outlines
of Brill across the lake. He remembered the argument about
actually taking a place in Brill. He was however most
uncomfortable in cities, and avoided them as often as possible.
As he stared out the window he raised his hand to his face and
let his fingers hover above the cowl covering the lower parts of
his head. Feeling as this was a day for memories, and thought of
the day he had acquired those scars.
