Corruption of the Self

Warneshi - February 28, 2006

Warneshi left his great city of Zul'Farrak, another lost trip. He
had escorted another group of Grim through the halls and walkways
of his great temple. He had slaughtered his people again.

Warneshi left his great city of Zul'Farrak, another lost trip. He
had escorted another group of Grim through the halls and walkways
of his great temple. He had slaughtered his people again.
Warneshi walked through the great desert of Tanaris, none of the
wildlife came to fight him, they could smell his blood, and what
it rank of sent them cowering in fear. Warneshi did not smile, he
held no emotion that day; he wanted the various creatures to
attack him. He yearned to be ripped to pieces, to just be another
traveler forgotten in the endless sands.

Warneshi had lost again, to himself and to his enemies. He could
feel the weight of his demon-blood pulling at him again; he could
feel it calling him to the acts of great violence and abuse that
had earned him a sour reputation amongst certain circles.

Warneshi had gifted Vuudu with some of his greater regenerative
abilites of his blood, and he had done so with no idea of
re-payment in mind. But his blood called upon him to seek
compensation for this gift; Warneshi had fought the feeling down,
but he knew it grew stronger and stronger.

With each Grim he helped, Warneshi could feel this pressure
growing; it chewed away at him, gnawed at his being. Warneshi
snarled, not because of the heat, he was used too such things,
but because he was growing weak again. The tragedy that befell
his previous allies was fast approaching The Grim.

Warneshi had let his guard slip, and in that moment had let
someone weasel their way into his feelings; this above all else
troubled him. It was this small act that had also weakened the
prison that Warneshi maintained on his brother, and other
Sandscalp was quickly gathering his strength.

Worneshi had been whispering in his brothers thoughts for days
now; ever since Taegol had called out Warneshi on his true
feelings. "You will lose again brother; you have failed to
protect them before, and so shall you fail to protect her."
"Remember Warneshi Sandscalp, you have mothers blood in you, and
she will call upon that control should you get to close to this
one; remember the last woman Warneshi, remember what you left of
her...nothing."

Warneshi screamed into the desert winds, they carried his cry's
to nothing, no one heard, no one cared, just as Warneshi wanted
it to be. Warneshi was a monster, as he had told her mother that
day, a monster un-fit for anyone. Warneshi had found a way to
drive her away from him, for her protection, his mothers voice
was calling to his blood, and Warneshi hungered.

The Caravan of Goblins did not even realize what had hit them
before they lay dead in the sands. Warnehsi had followed the
Caravan, making them well aware of his presence, letting them get
used to the red-rider that shadowed their journey; when they
looked to be un-worried about him, is when Warneshi struck.

Warneshi drank deep of several of their souls, gorging himself in
his grief, looking for a release. She called to him in his head,
he knew only one thing was left for him to do now.

Warneshi took the remainder of the goblins and layed their bodies
out in a ceremonial fashion, letting each of their bodies drain
all its blood into the sands.

Warneshi knew what he was, a monster, an evil unfit for this
world; he was an evil that even evil detested. Warneshi Sandscalp
had nothing left in this world, nothing to hold him here, but he
knew he could not leave it; she would not let him.

Warneshi started chanting latter in the evening, dancing around
the fire he had built from the wagon and it's goods, and when the
horrible visage of a great serpent appeared in the flames;
Warneshi spoke a simple statement.

"Slys'Thok, your son hass given up all he hass in hiss hatred of
you, he hass sacrificed all in order to cursse your name. Burn
forever bitch, Warneshi will live forever as a tesstament to your
failure, none will get closse to Warneshi, you have nothing left
to desstroy.."

And with that, the fire winked out of existence, and Warneshi
Sandscalp mounted Ses'Thur and traveled deeper and deeper into
the desert.

[Chavie]

So the little goblin wanted Chavie to get lots of giant eggs and
cheese and clam meat before he'd teach her anything. She was
working on the eggs now. The rocs had them, and they weren't
giving them up easily! At least the Tanaris desert--though hot
and bright and sandy and full of Alliance--was a pretty desert.
Not like the Badlands or the Barrens, which were just eyesores to
deal with. Also, Tanaris was where the Sandfury lived.

Just yesterday, Warneshi had taken Chavie, Syreena, and Ashreva
through Zul'Farrak. They had failed... Chavie's second failure in
a week. Not only did the whole party fall to Sandfury slaves, but
Chavie didn't even get any scarab shells. Warneshi had left to go
to the Sunken Temple, seeming too serious... Chavie didn't like
seeing him killing his own people. She could tell it was hard on
him. But, it was like she said to the party: It was like the
Scourge. Forsaken had to kill their old families and neighbors
all the time.

The worst thing in the world, Chavie thought, was being held in
the thrall of someone or something else. Not being able to
control your own actions. If the only way to free someone from
that was to kill them, then, well, they were better off dead.

So Chavie was killing hyenas and basilisks and rocs and scorpids,
thinking about the Sandfury and something Zeelina had told her
about Vuudu... Then she looked up and saw Warneshi on his mount,
perched on a tall rock. She couldn't tell if he was looking at
her or not. She grinned and waved at him. He steered his raptor
to face the other way and galloped off. Chavie was puzzled, but
got on Bu Bat and followed... She called after him, but he kept
going. She lost sight of him.

It was unsettling. She was expecting a cackle and a, "Hello, hard
to undersstand Chavie." Instead she was ignored. She tried
talking to him through the hearthstone, but he didn't answer...
She could only hear the sound of wind and rustling foliage. Which
was weird. There wasn't any foliage in Tanaris... Maybe he used
his hearthstone and went somewhere else. Maybe he dropped it.

She continued killing things, and saw another troll from the
Grim, Rezinak was his name, or something like it. They said hi,
but Chavie was thinking about Warneshi and Vuudu and wasn't in
the mood to chat. And she was dizzy; the ground was trembling.

Chavie went about her business and returned to Tanaris later. And
then she saw Warneshi again! She wasn't letting him get away this
time! She greeted him. He turned his mount the other way and rode
off. She chased him... She screamed, "WAR NE SHI!"

He didn't answer.

A hyena lept up and caught Bu Bat by the leg. Bu Bat reared, and
Chavie fell off. She had to fight the stupid hyena... And then a
basilisk came up... and a scorpid... and the ground started
shaking again. Chavie could hardly keep her balance. She let out
an intense psychic scream, uttered her sheilding power word, and
ran towards Gadgetzan. She didn't stop running, sheilding,
screaming, and casting renew on herself until she got there. At
that point she was frustrated and hurt--physically and in her
heart, too.

"War ne shi is ig nor in mi," she said into her hearthstone, to
the other Grims.

He wouldn't ignore her without a reason... What did she do to
make him upset? Was it because she failed at Zul'Farrak? Maybe he
regretted taking her there. Maybe it was something else. What did
she know about the affairs of kings? She hardly knew him. But she
looked up to him, and he had never treated her with such disdain
before.

That evening, after a little rest, Chavie woke and thought about
how the Sandfury were possessed, under the thrall of Warneshi's
mother. Suddenly she felt sick and cold. Surely Warneshi wasn't
possessed now, too. He was too strong for that.

She reached for her hearthstone to see if anyone knew what was
going on.

[Warneshi]

Warneshi sat in the dank bar at Gadgetzan, reflecting on the last
several days; what days they had been. Warneshi had promised
himself he would hide from everything, and everyone he cared for.
When he had seen Chavie in the desert, he had fled. Warneshi felt
a pang of guilt over that; he did rather enjoy the little undead,
but because of that he not could allow her near him.

The voice of Worneshi was relentless in his head, reminding him
over and over of his failure in Ashenvale and the conditions of
this "exile". Warneshi didn't care, his brother was still
imprisoned within him, only a voice nothing more.

Warneshi let lose a snarl, how had she found him! He had banished
himself, mostly, for her protection, and what does the little
pest do; she comes riding into Tanaris, not a care in the world,
to find him. He remembered his surprise the day before when had
been preparing to leave Gadgetzan after selling some possessions
of several alliance he had waylaid, and low and behold who landed
on a Wyvern and greeted him with one of her typical smiles, none
other but Lilliana Bloodshine.

Warneshi had been stunned, but as with Chavie, Warneshi turned
Ses'Thur around and made haste into the desert. Warneshi realized
very quickly, trying to lose her was a mistake, her raptor may of
been slow, but her voice echoed from all corners of the great
Desert; if she wouldn't find him, she was going to annoy him into
submission.

Warneshi reached one of the great rock formations and decided to
give Ses'Thur a break, he believed he had lost her. The thought
of this sent a wave of hurt through him, the same way as when he
had left Ashenvale; Warneshi hated these damn feelings, but it
seemed somehow they had found a way to latch on to all of his
sensibilities.

While Ses'Thur rested Warneshi decided he would wander around the
formation for a bit, and almost ran face first, into Lilliana
Bloodshine.

She was furious, that much he could see, and dirty and sweaty,
and beautiful...Warneshi shook his head to clear it, he was going
to need a clear head that much was for certain.

Lilliana dug into Warneshi like a angry school teacher digs into
the class clown. Screaming, questioning, nearly beating, the
whole time Warneshi did his best to remain composed.

Warneshi argued back, raising his voice just as high, trying his
best to get the younger Sandfury under control. Lilliana would
not be controlled it seemed, so Warneshi just waited for her to
stop screaming, and went about explaining to her all the reason
for this "exile".

When Warneshi reached the part about what he had done to her
mother, there was a change in the troll. She became quite, angry,
she glared at Warneshi with hatred, it made Warneshi cringe, but
he knew it was necessary. Warneshi told her then to leave him,
with the thought of only hatred; that way she would at least
never try and find him again, and then be safe. Lilliana looked
solemnly at Warneshi, then told him quietly in a voice Warneshi
was not used to at all, that she did not hate him. Warneshi could
not believe his ears! After all he had done she did not hate him!
Warneshi came back with arguments of safety, and what had
happened to others he had let get to close.

Lilliana listened for all of five minutes before she was mocking
Warneshi for being to melodramatic, and to serious. This was also
about the time that Warneshi could of sworn he heard laughter
that did not belong to either of them, when he went to
investigate he could fine nothing, perhaps she was driving him
insane.

Lilliana became less and less serious, and so the conversation
dwindled to her poking fun at Warneshi. Outside Warneshi acted
indignant, and angry, but inside he was happy again, he did not
know why but the fact she had no fear of what could happen, made
him question why he tried to separate himself from her in the
first place.

Emmons appeared out of no where, already mounted, and galloping
off fast with a smile on his face and words of parting in his
mouth. Lilliana and Warneshi just stared at each other, then to
Emmons, and simultaneously started yelling at him to come back
there so they could "talk" to him.

The hearthstones became abuzz with the two Sandfury trolls
screaming and roaring at the rogue, most of the other Grims took
to laughing about it. Emmons while laughing about it, offered a
price for the information he had aquired.

Lilliana turned to Warneshi and told him "see! Why should I worry
about being close to you and your mothers wrath, when their is
Emmons about." Both trolls almost fell over laughing about the
statement, Warneshi didn't care, it felt good to laugh again.

Chavie must of heard of the pair, because she quickly showed up,
rambling on is Wor Sa Fa Chal about this hyena and that basalisk,
and how Emmons was so very nice because he was gathering eggs for
her. When her eyes found Warneshi, she stopped speaking of the
other things, and asked him if he wished to be alone anymore
while in the desert.

Warneshi smirked, and replied that he was fine now, it seemed he
wasnt allowed to be in exile, he tossed a glance to Lilliana.
Chavie, Lilliana, and Warneshi sat on the cool rocks, talking
about this and that, Chavie commenting on how beautiful Tanaris
was. She was right Warneshi thought, it is beautiful and it is
home.

They rambled on for a few hours into the night, then Chavie took
her leave and Warneshi was left alone with Lilliana, yet again.
The two summoned their raptors and mounted up, continuing to talk
for a bit longer, Lilliana making sure Warneshi wasn't going to
do this again, and trying her best to give him a real stern
serious look. Warneshi laughed a bit, and prepared to head off
towards Gadgetzan, he let a smirk slide cross his face, he still
had her hearthstone, he had been using it to assure some of The
Grim he was fine. Warneshi looked back at the troll priestess,
brought Ses'Thur close, tossed her the hearthstone, and while she
was distracted with catching it, kissed her again.

To furious howls and screams of rage, Warneshi rode off into the
desert, smiling to himself. He would head to Ashenvale to
retrieve his stone in the morning, and try his best to forget
some of the events of the past few days, he remembered both of
the kisses and smirked, perhaps not all the events he told
himself.
