Battle of the Dark Portal
Warneshi - February 13, 2006
Warneshi was calm as he surveyed the forces arrayed before him.
The Grim had made a good show of force this day at stonard.
Grainger was seated up on his mount to Warneshi's left; Warneshi
respected this ancient one, even thought it seemed Grainger
always had some aura of mystery about him, and Warneshi hated
mystery. Grainger had given him command of this army, Warneshi
was surprised, they where marching to battle against demons and
it seemed they would be lead there by a demon-spawn, sometimes
Grainger's judgement elduded Warneshi's senabilites, but then
again Grainger was very old, and perhaps knew alot more then he
let on. Warneshi had led armies before, he had commanded his
loyal people on assualts agains several other tribes, as well as
raids and attacks on the city of Gagedtzan and its trade
caravans; but this was different, this time Warneshi led his
brothers and sisters, this time his orders would be questioned if
they did not succeed at what they where inteded to do. Warneshi
gave the order to move out, several, including himself, would
proceed the main force and wait for them at the entrance to the
Blasted Lands.
Warneshi surveyed the Blaster Lands; bleak, hopeless, forboding,
almost as good as home to the Tyrant. The column soon cought up
and assembled in formation for the arduous journey that awaited
them, the march to the dark portal was almost as dangerous as the
portal itself. To Warneshi surprise The Grim where able to make
it to the portal un-molested, but what awaited ahead of them,
most where not prepared for. Either by chance, or something else,
it seems the Nether Denizens had found this day a good day to
have their own army camped around the portal, a far greater force
then is usually stationed at the place. Warneshi gave the call to
battle, and The Grim in their rigid and well trained military
custome, took to their line of battle stance, all weapons at the
ready and all casters with spells on their tongues.
The world was silent for Warneshi, it had come, his time to prove
his worth to The Grim, it was succeed or break, nothing else
could happen this day, so it was at this moment Warneshi
Sandscalp, King of The Sandfury Trolls, Tyrant of Zul'Furrak, led
his Grim allies into one of their greatest and most difficult
battles. The war crys and blessings where given, and like a tidal
wave of great power and destructive force, The Grim lines
charged.
Doom Guard Captain and Commander of The Dark Portal defence,
Reg'Nis Thek, watched as the puny mortals gave their calls to
battle and assembled into their lines. He was well prepared for
this day, his mistress had warned him that The Grim would try to
rescue their ally, the warlock Lupen. A smile spread across
Reg'Nis's face, he had not had a good battle since his days under
the dead general Archimonde, this day was going to be a good one
indeed. He gave the orders to his messengers and the imps sped
off to the different sub-commanders to make sure all was ready; a
day indeed Reg'Nis thought to himself, a day indeed.
Warneshi charged with all his might, the great demon-slayer
clenched in his fists. He watched the other Vanguards of The
Grim, those that would be the first to meet the demons in combat,
and Warneshi did not fear for their lives, he had seen them
fight, had made sure they knew exactly what to expect from their
foe. A day this was going to be indeed.
Grim warcry met demon howl as the two walls collided with each
other in a sickening sound of screams and roars. Warneshi dove
for the first demon he saw only to see it vanish into a wispy
cloud as the warlock Pincus smirked at the Tyrant, Warneshi
snarled at the warlock, but inside he was happy, knowing that
these tactics would win them the day. Demons all along the line
began to suddenly vanish, it seemed The Grims may have the
advantage, the demons let out howls of anger as they watched
their lines begin to crumble as their own vanguard troops where
trapped by the warlocks.
Reg'Nis growled, he should of expected as much to have his own
troops being banished before his very eyes, but he wasnt done
yet, always a good way to deal with a pesky warlock, he ordered
the hounds released.
Ayabba, who was hard at work binding on of the Fel Vanguard
troops to her will, did not hear the howl that came from behind
the enemies lines, she did not see the great demon-beasts
released to track down a kill the warlocks, however, they saw
her. Muatah dected the presnece of the beasts, he had fought
against before, and he knew who they came after, he leveled his
sights on the one heading straight for Ayabba, and it seemed the
warlock did not even notice. Ayabba saw the beast our of the
corner of her eye, she knew what was coming next, she had seen
what happened to the victims of her own pet. The arrow cought the
felhound directly behind the eye, entering its brain and killing
it instantly; Muatah smirked, even he had to admit, it was a good
shot.
Skash had been in awe ever since he had seen the portal, he
remembered it a little, remembered coming through it with the
demon-rage still seething through his veins. But it was not time
for awe, it was time for blood, and Skash had always thought
demon blood to be the nicest shade of red, almost like that of
cherry pie, "mmmm" he thought to himself, pie sounded very good
at the time.
Elajinn was having a busy day, the wounds the demons inflicted
where terrible, he could detect The Grim vanguards suffering them
with brave tolerence and stoic ignorance, but they where still
terrible, and Elajinn did not know how much longer his magics
could keep The Grim troops up. Gaiaswrath felt Elajinn's pain,
the earthmother had always blessed him with great powers of the
healing arts, but they were put to the test this day. It seemed
that Warneshi and Skash had lost themselves in an overwhelming
number of enemies yet again, the pair went to work quickly, what
a day indeed.
Reg'Nis knew what was happening, he was losing ground and fast.
His hounds had failed to fell the warlocks, it seems the hunters
of this Grim, where far more skilled then he had anticipated, the
hounds had only gotten near the warlocks, not harmed a single
one. He decided it was time, his vanguard troops were falling
fast, he could see bursts of seering light that burnt his eyes
erupting from the area on the line that this Tyrant fought at;
Demon-slayer, he thought to himself, curse those Sandfury and
their damndable powers. Reg'Nis gave the order and sent, what he
hoped, would be the hammer to shatter The Grims lines, he ordered
that the great Infernals be sent to crush these mortals.
Pincus knew that sound, he had heard it many times when he
brought his own into the world, Infernals where coming and The
Grim needed to act fast. The Infernals hit the ground with enough
forc to rocket both Grim and Demon troops far into the air. Many
Grim vanguard troops were either crushed instantly or had the
flesh seared from their bones. Warneshi knew he had to act fast,
he yelled to his warlocks, but they where already one step ahead
of Warneshi. The warlocks weaved their control magics and took
the Infernals, turned the enemies best weapon against itself. The
battle swiftly turned tides, the demons gasped in horror as the
montrous piles of rock and nether flame came roaring out of The
Grim lines and smashed through theirs like a knife through paper.
Reg'Nis knew he had lost, he knew it was risk to summon the
Infernals, but he had expected them to kill the warlocks before
they could get their control spells off, he was wrong, the Grims
vanguard had held off the beasts long enough for the spells to
get through. Reg'Nis gave the yell to retreat, back into the
portal, they would return soon to reclaim this ground as well
this land.
Lupen sensed the battle, he could feel the anger, the pain, the
suffering, it was his only friend in this dark place, his only
companion. He saw the retreat, was amazed by the number of demons
that piled through the portal to escape their own allies. Lupen
was relieved, it meant The Grim had come, the Tyrant had listened
well.
The Infernals where released and delt with one by one, and so The
Grim took the ground. All that was left was Lupen, his voice had
eco'd in the stones for several days, advising The Grim, giving
them hints, and letting them know that this was where he would
be, waiting for them.
Warneshi approached the Portal, he could feel the pain and
suffering eminating from it, and it fed him, gave him strength,
he could feel his wounds closing, some from his troll, others
from his other blood. He looked into the portal, and thought he
saw Lupen, or at least the spectre of Lupen, it seemed the
foolish warlock had kept his word.
Lupen called to The Grim, and by her will they heard! Some even
called back! Lupen could not believe his luck, he would be
rescued, and here came the Tyrant to release him, but something
was odd, the Tyrant seemed different.
Slys'Thok was overjoyed, here they where, the damn Grim and their
damn Steward, and she had to the means to enter this world and
have them be the first to suffer her wrath, this little warlock
fool had provided her with the doorway. She was surprised to see
Warneshi with them, it was unlike him to help those in need, no
matter, she could solve the problem with him again as well.
Warneshi colapsed, it was happening again, she was here, not in
the Blasted Lands, no at The Dark Portal just on the other side!
He could hear her laughter in his head, it was all a trap, she
was going to try and cross over again!
Wadjet did not know what to think, Warneshi collapsing at a time
like this, Warneshi speaking in some odd voice and yelling about
some apocalypse he would visit upon the world, she knew he was
arogant, but this was just a little to much, so she decided to
scowl at him, he deserved it anyway.
Warneshi was lost in himself again, he knew this prison, this
pain, she was speaking to his brothers and sisters, telling them
theit fate, and this time she might succeed, he could make out
her great form on the other side of The Portal, she was using
Lupen to make the connection, he had to get Lupen, if only just
to shut he doorway.
Warneshi rose to his feet, he stumbled towards the Portal, this
was it, he told Ayabba, "when you hear Warneshi call for it, you
musst bring Warneshi back to thiss world", Ayabba thought she
understood, simple enough to summon him at least.
Warneshi dove into the portal, it was dark, it was hot, it was
home. He looked for Lupen and found the warlock near the surface
of the portal, chained to the darkness, a obsidion blade driven
deeply into his chest. Warneshi told the warlock he must leap
through the portal when he is released, weakly the warlock noded
his head. Warneshi broke thr chains and pulled the dagger from
the warlocks chest, and as instructed, the warlock re-entered his
own world, and Warneshi turned to come face to face with his
greatest foe, his mother, Slys'Thok 4th Legion Lord, of the
Burning Legion.
Ayabba heard Warneshi's call and began the ritual, Warneshi could
feel the pull back to Azeroth even as his mothers coils started
to work their way around his body, and tighten. Warneshi was
returned to his world, and foiled another attempt by his mother,
Warneshi hoped one of he last for a very long time.
Lupen warned The Grim of what he had seen, The Burning Legion was
soon to return, and The Grim must be ready, the world must be
ready, for soon it was to burn again in the fires of war.
