A Shaman's Journey into Darkness
Hektar - January 31, 2006
The hearthstones had tole Hektar that Wadjet was in the undercity
and it was here that he now ventured on the zepplin. As it pulled
into the tower Hektar strolled off and made his way down the
stairs where he would summon his loyal steed. He had slept long
and looked forward to catching up with Wadjet.
He arrived in the city just in time to see Wadjet climbing atop a
bat and riding off looking quite focused. Riding to the bat
master at full speed Hektar leapt off atthe last moment and
requested a bat to the same location as Wadjet.
As he landed Silverpine forest he saw Wadjet riding off on her
raptor. Without hesitation Hektar summoned his wolf and made off
in pursuit. As he came upon Wadjet he found her in heated debate
with the orc Kilrok Fel. In fact he witnessed her threaten his
life. Such actions against other Grims could not be allowed,
least not without the orders of the Stewart himself and Hektar
was quick to intervene.
The Orc Teagol approached and immedaitely became a party in
encouraging Wadjet to slay the fellow Grim. "Strike him down and
you will have to deal with me" Hektar could not allow inner
conflict to result in the death of a Grim. But still Wadjet and
Teagol insisted Kilrok was a traitor and eventually Wadjet could
stand no more argument and struck him down where he stood. With
this Hektar sprung into action and attacked Wadjet, though he
left her on the brink of death, mercyto a fellow Grim, he felt
she had learned her lesson. It was during the conversation after
where Wadjet and Teagol began to present evidence that Hektar
began a conversation with Kregnar through the hearthstones. True
power, rage, the liberation of such things was all Kregnar spoke
of. He struck down hektars attempts to reason with him.
"A great evil is at work this night. I must depart" With that
Hektar began to cast Astral Recall so that he could return to
Orgrimmar and seek out Kregnar, perhaps he could save him.
As he searched the streets and shops of Orgrimmar the hearthstone
debate continued, Hektar tried his best to convince Kregnar of
the folly of giving in to the evil. Only weakness could result
from giving into the rage that the legion had cursed their people
with. This he had been taught by his grandfather, and it was
repeated everyday of his youth, staright through his training as
a shaman. Only through peace could true strength be found.
Eventually the words of Kregnar showed him to be consumed by the
rage, perhaps by showing him the weakness of this way Hektar
could change his view. He called Kregnar out, challeneged his
honour, and when that failed, his courage. As Kregnar agreed to
meet Hektar at the gates to Orgrimmar to settle the debate.
Hektar quickly made his way there to find Kregnar alreayd
waiting. Words were once again exchanged and finally the two went
to battle. The fight was fierce, both opponents striking blows
that would kill most beings, orcs not being most beings though
the fight raged on. Finally an openning to end the fight seemed
to present itself and Hektar lunged for it. It had been a feign
however and Kregnar struck the shaman down.
Hektar sat on his knees at the mercy of Kregnar.
"You see Hektar, the rage gives me true power."
"Impossible... the rage makes one weak... thats .... no..
NOOO!!!"
His deathcry called his wolf into action to protect his master
and as it ran toward him hektar grabbed hold of the harness and
pulled himself up, urging the mount to not stop, to continue into
the south of Durotar.
How had Kregnar won? He had always been taught the rage made one
weak, only peace with the elements could bring him strength. But
if that was true how had Kregnar fought with such power. Such
unstoppable power? Such rage could make Thrall twice as powerful,
why would he not embrace it? Perhaps he was afraid? But why? Why
would he not allow his people to utilize such power in the
struggle against the Alliance? Why with such power the could...
they could best Thrall himself.
It was all so clear now, how could they have been so foolish. The
rage was not evil, it did not make on weak, no quite the
opposite. They were prevented from using it to prevent a more
powerful leader from usurping Thrall himself. Kregnar was wise,
he would not allow a fools fear of losing power stop him from
gaining his true power.
Hektar gripped his Hearthstone and connected with Kregnar "Tell
me brother. Tell me more of this power"
"If you wish to join me than meet me in Orgrimmar"
"Very well I will join you"
As Hektar rode into Orgrimmar he saw Kregnar awaiting him on his
mount. The shaman dismounted and kneeled before the warrior.
"Teach me how to harness this power you have found."
"Very well, follow me"
Hektar mounted and followed the warrior through Orgrimmar to
where the armour of Mannroth was chained to the tree, a monument
to the breaking of the orcs bound to the legion. "Touch him
Hektar"
Hektar reached out and laid his hand on the armour of Mannoroth.
"Now concentrate"
Concentrate on what Hektar wondered? Such vagueness was
frustrating, then he felt it... him.. it was anger. Concentrate
on the anger, the rage within him. Embrace it. Yes! Hektar began
to feel a power the likes of which he had never before felt. With
such power he would not have to ask the elements to assist him,
he could command them! His hearthstone rang with the debate
Kregnar now had with other Grims about this new found power but
Hektar was overwhelemed by the power at this time.
Finally Hektar let out a bone chilling roar and his eyes began to
glow a crimson red.
"Do you feel it now?"
"Yes a power, a great power. The others are fools to not embrace
it."
Seeing the hearthstone still rang with debate amoung his guild
mates Hektar spoke "Kregnar is right. The power he has found is
great. Only fools deny it. In time you will all embrace the
power, or die. I must rest now, there is much to do." Before
anybody coul dobject Hektar severed his connection with the
hearthstone, bowed before Kregnar and walked off to find rest.
There was much to do... and many to slay.
