The Orc And The Wyvern by Xoscyl

Unread post by Keeper Of Lore »

It had been a long day for the platinum haired hunter of the Grim. Xoscyl gathered the last of the pelts she'd skinned in Terrokar Forest and stuffed them into her pack. Slowly she made her way through the trees, searching for alliance pests to take down as she went. As she scanned the terrain, she heard a fluttering of wings from above. Quickly she brought her gun to level and awaited a target. Through the scope of her gun she watched as the winged creature landed, stumbled and collapsed to the ground. With no sight of a rider, the orc made her way to the beasts side. Approaching, she could see this was a Wyvern. She could tell there was something not right about this one. The ones she'd seen were sturdy looking, but this one was anything but. She knelt down and placed a hand on the wyvern's bristly fur. It was mangy and made her hands feel itchy.

"What happened to you?" She said, taking some netherweave cloth from a sack on her hip. She poured some purified draenic water on to the cloth and dabbed at some of the fur that was hardened with muck, looking for a wound that might be infected. The head of the beast lifted slowly from the ground and turned to look at this who was aiding him. What seemed like a sigh of relief escaped his dry, cracked lips, and he shifted his body to give his medic a better view of her work. There were several spots on it's body that had been scraped and scratched, possibly by the beast trying to relieve himself of rash, or from an attack. Either way, they did not look good, and the beast needed some nourishment. She took a helmet she had found off a fool she cut down and poured a bit of the water within it like she would a bowl. The animal looked at the offering as if he'd forgotten what the substance was. Then, he lowered his head and with his pale tongue he took his first drink of water in days. You could see that he had almost given up hope, that he had landed to rest for the last time. That was not the case anymore.

Xoscyl stood up and coaxed the animal to join her. It took him several minutes to raise to his feet and remain doing so. Very slowly the two walked together to the nearby city where she called for the aid of Taegol and his alchemy skills. Together they spent the night working on the near death creature, purging fluids from infected sores and soothing rashed skin that had been scratched raw. When the night was over and morning neared, the wyvern lay sleeping on a pile of straw and leathers. He was bandaged and covered in salve, but he had a better chance at survival.

After a few days, the beast was well enough to move about and take flight again. Still covered in a green salve, he opened his wings and beat them against the air. He rose off the ground and climbed up into the sky. Xoscyl watched as the creature soared off over the trees and smiled, and she was not surprised to see the beast return to her side after several minutes. She had saved him and he felt safe by her side.
