So there I was, waking up in a puddle of my own blood and urine. Humans snickering in that forgotten tongue and damnable gnomes grinning. "What the hell happened?" I thought to myself. My head hurt, my vision was blurry, and I couldn't remember much of anything worthwhile.

"What is that you said? Undead don't bleed or have to take a piss? Stop interrupting and you'll have had a chance for me to explain. You see, this isn't a recent event. It was before I became Forsaken, when I still lived. Significant because it leads to the point of my death. Or rebirth if you prefer."

Anyways, the waking up part....how bad it truly was. All I remember was coming back to shore after a crappy voyage to some forgotten set of islands. Don't even remember the name of them to be honest, as much rum as I drank back then. Me and my good buddy had gotten this gnome drunk and after he passed out decided to play some gnomeball. I know it's wrong, but damn if it isn't fun. Never liked the little pecks anyways, so I never felt bad. The cursed luck I had was that, you guessed it, this little guy was sort of important. Yep, just happened to be the new navigator the Captain hand picked, which made him much higher ranking than me. He was just trying to fit in with the crew, and I went and did what I did.

Being a deckhand I was considered "expendable". The First Mate saw what my friend and I were doing and called the Captain, which made things really bad for me really fast. I heard some commands being yelled as I was going for a really good long punt with our "Navigator". That was when I woke up, as I previously mentioned right before your little question.

Not being one to take a beating unless it involves leather and feathers, I managed to get to my feet. Twice actually, the first time I stumbled and it didn't really count. Looking around with the eye that wasn't swollen shut, I saw the look of pleasure on the faces of those around me. Couldn't really blame them, I've been on the outside looking in plenty of times. The view just isn't as delightful from the other side, I can tell you that. Apparently you can be punished by death for maliciously assaulting a superior officer and close personal friend of the Commodore. Of course I tried to fight back, but you can see how well that worked out.

That's pretty much it. Oh, and then I became a Priest, of all things. That's another story however.
