And now we have a Federation fleet in Star Trek Online: The Grim. We have a starbase! ... sort of, I mean, we have some starbase-shaped scaffolding and a lot of freighter debris. But it's a start!

Post here if you want in on the STO fleet, with a time you'll be in-game so someone with invite privileges (which is everyone) can catch you.

If you have no idea what Star Trek Online is, check it out at the website. It's free, with a cash shop for extra bells and whistles (although you can, by grinding, earn the cash shop currency in-game - so theoretically everything can be obtained for free). It's also available on Steam, just ignore the DLC and starter packs - that actual base game is free.

Right now we're pretty much just flailing around shooting things with phasers and blundering into incinerating Gorn spacepoop.

oh hey, you can play as a Romulan now. to hell with the federation!

Romulans work a little like the Pandaren; after you get to a certain level, you pick Federation or Klingon and count as one of those for the purposes of fleets, PvP, PvE queues, etc. However, unlike the Pandaren, you continue following your own Romulan questline up to the level cap instead of just ending up in your chosen faction's story.

Also, I appear to have been wrong about how hard it is to get new Duty Officers - there's a bunch of ways to get more.

So maybe 25 tactical duty officers isn't such an insane requirement after all. I don't know how many of those methods are old and broken, however. Time to fly around and find out!

I tried this game and couldn't get into it. The spaceship controls annoyed me for some reason. Plus I couldn't double axe handle a klingon at the beginning. Not cool.

Did you get your fleet invitation? I'm not going to be around until later tonight, but if you pop into Mumble you might be able to get Bart or Korock to hit you with an invitation.
