History before The Grim: As a human, Duranor was a proud Soldier of Lordaeron. He served valliantly and faithfully, never questionning his orders. At
the beginning of the third war, he was dispatched to be a part of Prince Arthas Menethil's escort to investigate the mysterious plague. Chasing the
necromancer Kel'thuzad through brill, destroying the plague-infected grain.

Their chase led them to Stratholme, where the Nathrezim Mal'Ganis was building his forces using the infected townsfolk. Duranor was given a battlefield  comission as knight and was given a warhorse. He charged into battle as per his prince's order and slew many infected townsfolk and set fire to their homes.

In the streets of the burning city, he faced off with a large group of the scourge. in the distance, the Dread Lord Mal'ganis could be seen. He bravely charged into battle, cleaving through ranks of ghouls, however his inexperience at riding led to his horse being wounded. The warhorse collapsed and crashed down into the undead, Duranor jumped off, tumbled and kept attacking, while making his way to the demon. With ghouls clawing at his back and holding onto his cape, he thrust a futile attack at the demon, barely scratched his armor and was struck down. Impressed, Mal'ganis ordered one of his necromancers, Gavril to reanimate the fallen warrior.

The Scourge damaged his memory, nothing remains of his former life but emotions and feelings, of Loyalty and devotion to Lordaeron. He awoke confused and badly mangled as a forsaken, near the outskirts of Silverpine forest, scavenging what he could to survive. Lost, Duranor went out in search for purpose. He still felt bound to the Warlock Gavril, who had originally raised him from the living and into the scourge, and had also survived the war and raised into the ranks of the forsaken. On many occasions they cooperated to build up their powers and skills.

Duranor then did the only thing he instincltly knew: he enlisted in the horde military ranks. Through his restless fighting, he rose to power in the horde ranks, up to  the rank of General, such thing was not easy for the Forsaken, as they were generally distrusted by the other races of the horde. Through this experience, Duranor learned more about the Orcish horde, and their shamanistic heritage. He grew to gradually appreciate their views on honor, war, and shared their feelings about being former slaves to greater demonic powers.

Before joining The Grim, Duranor served under , a group of elite forsaken devoted to the Dark Lady, serving directly under Lord Varimathras's command. Duranor rose to the rank of Corruptor, and was close to attaining the rank of Life bane, the ruling class of Infection. He quickly found however that Infection was more a group of dillitantes and semi-noblemen who had no real taste for battle, and disagreed with him on too many occasions. He came to an agreement with them and parted ways from their ranks.
