Kerala “Windchaser”
NO LONGER GRIM
Gender, Race, Class: female tauren druid
Age: young, 21 (younger than Baine Bloodhoof who should be 23-26 in WoD)
Occupation: None. Kerala can cut and shape gems if she chooses to, but it is not a skill to earn money.
Languages: Taurahe, crude Magram centaur version of bastardized Low Common. She will use that language to curse in, rather than orcish (taurahe doesn't have 'real' curse words).
Physical description: Kerala is an extremely skinny tauren woman with distinctly wild look. She is thin! Not quite in the range of unhealthy, it's very close. She might be the boniest tauren anyone has ever seen living.
Her coat is an ordinary brown color viewed from far off, it seems common enough. When looking closer, however, the coat is smooth no where on her body- there are numerous swirls and patterns which make her seem scruffy and unkempt. There are varying shades of brown even on individual hairs.
Her mane is a darker brown, and the hair grows just as wildly as her coat- thick curls and fluff sticking every which way. She has bothered to tame it only enough to catch bunches of hair into tufts to either side. Her face is also framed in low curving horns of brown, forming very wicked-looking sharp tips.
Kerala has clear dark green eyes, calm and intelligent. Surrounded as they are in such disorder, her eyes might be a startling and beautiful feature.
Her muzzle and hide bear a dizzying array of scars of varying lengths and shapes. The nature of her fur makes most of these less noticeable at first glance, but for the obvious ones on her face. Those who do notice the extent of scarring might realize that there are more than twice what the most active veteran bears, evidence of wounds from not just battle, but physical abuses.
Tauren familiar with older traditions might recognize the stripe-like scars on her face as intentional marks of dishonor, brands to warn others of the character of the person bearing them.
Kerala wears no adornments of any kind, just her armor or clothing. (These have been embellished by Lomani who made them, though, so there are pretty blue feathers on her vest, for example, and a few gems.) While her horns are exceptionally sharp, she doesn't seem to care for nails or hooves- these are often dirty and sometimes chipped.
There is a coarseness to Kerala's voice, a strange accent present in both Taurahe and Orcish languages. Her ears and eyes are usually in constant motion, watching and listening warily.
Under the average height at 8 ft tall (average is 9ft).
Weighs the equivalent of a tauren woman a full foot shorter- 417lbs (should be around 533lbs).
Personality: Kerala is introverted. She tends to be quiet and is perfectly content to be alone. She might seem shy around others, but this tends to be more from a lack of experience in social matters than any actual desire to avoid contact. She does enjoy her time around people.
She can be somewhat disagreeable. She is not solely concerned only for her own well-being, but she is a survivor and will not compromise herself for the sake of others. She trusts no one.
She is pretty impulsive, and emotions are involved in most of her actions. She has a short temper, and though she's getting better, it still often leads to violence. She's not a leader, and this shows in her general lack of planning. She may have goals, and can be incredibly stubborn in holding on to achieve them, but usually she focuses on one thing at a time without thought to what comes after, and there isn't really a plan in how to achieve them. That doesn't stop her.
She is more comfortable with what is familiar to her than new things. She is straightforward in her thinking and she appreciates truth and bluntness. Subtlety and implied meanings might be lost on her, but she does pick up very well on non-verbal cues. She says what she thinks, most often, without a filter. Often, she says things the wrong way so that her words are misinterpreted, because she says things simply and without much explanation.
Skills: A druid of instinctive talent. Fairly powerful healer, despite inexperience. Reluctant but very skilled by experience in personal combat versus one or few opponents, especially animals.
Has a keen eye for spotting gem nodes peeking above the earth's surface and mining them with minimal impact. Can shape gems with significant precision and care, but has no real creativity when it comes to carving figurines or making the gems into jewelry.
Combat Tactics: Kerala is skilled with the use of a spear, is handy enough with a dagger, but mostly fights as a bear. With recently learning to heal, and discovering a talent for it, she'll likely stay back and let others do the fighting while she heals them.
Phobias and Weaknesses:
(WAS extremely claustrophobic.
Avoided caves, small spaces, and crowds of people. She was uncomfortable almost anytime she could not see the sky or natural light, and was often noticed glancing at windows while indoors. She wore loose non-constricting clothing. Many of these things have changed with the addition of a small physical stone now in Kerala's brain. It blocks the paralyzing fear reaction.)
Kerala does not eat meat of any kind.
Pet Peeves: none
Special Possessions:None. Kerala only owns a spear that she has made herself, and the clothes she wears.
Origin/Birthplace: born in some grass somewhere
Brief History: Kerala is daughter of Oyohus and Wadulisi, fraternal twin sister to Agiga (Lomani, amnesiac, who has no knowledge of this).
When she was 11, Kerala and her father, as well as several other tauren from their group were captured by Magram centaur. In an attempt at escape, Kerala's father was killed and Kerala was desperate enough to remain and challenge the centaur instead of continuing the likely-futile attempt to flee. Magram value strength above all, and Kerala was kept captive instead of eaten. She fought for their entertainment for years. It was during these dangerous fights that Kerala learned to shift to animal form through intense fury. Eventually, malnourishment and improper care led to impaired fighting ability and she was sent to the tunnels to mine gems until she died. Kerala was nearly dead of starvation and infection when she was rescued by the Cenarion Circle during the Cataclysm earthquakes.
“Chasing the wind” Shu'halo phrase meaning to doing something that is without purpose or virtue, meaningless or impossible. Derogatory.
