Age: Middle-aged. Approximately 180 if he were to guess, but he’s lost track.
Race: Sin’Dorei
Gender: Male
Hair: Brown
Eyes: Green
Height: 5’11
Weight: 190lbs
Notable Physical Features:
A lifetime as an infantryman has clearly taken a toll on his body. While he maintains a healthy enough physique, structured for enduring long distance movements while bearing a load - a close inspection would reveal the constant suppression of wince whilst moving, and an awkward gait only noticeable after sitting still for extended periods. Unremarkable appearance; pockmarks confined to the left side of his face, a few minor scars littering the rest of skin, deep green eyes and chestnut brown hair generally pulled into a ponytail.
Place of residence: Alterac Valley, Grim Garrison.
Place of Birth: Quel’thalas
Known Relatives:
Mother: Velonis Pyreblood, living. Once a socialite well known throughout Silvermoon for her grace, political involvements, and regional influence - has since been reduced to a drunken recluse who confines herself to her family spire.
Father: Partheas Brandt, missing. Former Farstrider, diplomat, and intellectual - known well in the elven anthropological circles for his writings and studies of the human kingdoms - specifically the kingdoms of Lordaeron and Stormwind. Missing since the outbreak of the third war, presumed deceased.
Religion/Philosophy:
Outwardly a nihilist - often preaching (pretentiously) of a life by the sword. Inwardly there is a desperate hope to be favored by the gods, and that while he is already in the midst of middle-age - he confides in them his hopes of still having time to be a great man.
Occupation: Infantry Officer
Guild Rank: Warbringer
Known Associates: Fellow Grim, former contacts within the Sunsworn and the Silvermoon Officer Corps internal to the Blood Knights and Farstriders. Religiously exchanges correspondence with those he served with in some conflict or another.
Special Skills:
- Tactical and strategic prowess: first recognized in the elven conflict with the Amani tribesman. Intuitive understanding of terrain and the application of combat power.
- Capable logistician: frequently reprimanding junior officers while drunk and talking tactics, often repeating the axiom “Amateurs talk strategy, professionals talk logistics.”
- Military theorist: Served as an instructor on operational planning at the Silvermoon Expeditionary Warfare Training Center (SEWTC), of which he was a founding member. Personally developed doctrine still utilized today for the integration of goblin air support while in close proximity to horde ground maneuver.
- Talented drinker: known for barging in unexpectedly to the enlisted barracks in order to find real drinking partners - consistently seeking to test the limits of his liver.
Positive Personality Traits:
- Loyal to a fault, will sacrifice ambition for the sake of a cause or organization if he believes in it.
- Only a little racist, specifically towards Amani Trolls and Humans. Beyond that some might even call him a xenophile.
- Articulate communicator, through years of military correspondence and doctrinal development.
Negative Personality Traits:
- Substance-abuser. From the drink to blood-thistle, and anything in between. Because feeling good is good enough.
- Hot-tempered. Ristikus has many buttons, and they’re all easy to press.
- Nerves aren’t what they used to be, especially when sober. Generally requires something to take the edge off if expected to perform in any respect.
History Before The Grim:
Childhood:
Born to a life of privilege and shelter intrinsic to being within the walls of Silvermoon, Ristikus knew little of hardship. As he aged, he came to understand the threat of trolls in the southern territories only as a child would understand the boogeyman: a shapeless threat left to his boyhood imagination. He was afforded an exceptional education, but struggled in even the most basic of studies - not for a lack of intellect, but for sheer disinterest. Most of his time was dedicated to learning and understanding methods for slipping passed the city guards to explore his real interest: the woods of Eversong. Although often reprimanded by his parents for this, his father secretly encouraged his son’s mischief - and would suppress a grin each time he was brought home by the city guard. Unlike many denizens of Azeroth, he did not know tragedy until much later in life - a tragedy that would be shared by his entire race. As a child however, he loved, and was loved well.
Young Adulthood:
As Ristikus grew into himself as a man, his family experienced a schism upon his departure from home. His mother and father drove him to attend university, and he conceded - but the only education he received included lessons on consumption and debauchery, frequenting the bars and brothels of Murder Row more than he did the classroom. After a year, on a drunken whim, he enlisted into the infantry. Ironically, his socialite mother would adopt Ristikus’ habit for drinking upon learning this, driving his father to dedicate more and more time in the south, applying his time in the professional and.. personal study of the Human race. Ristikus’ first taste of combat would be against the Amani tribesmen. Although urinating himself upon experiencing his first Amani charge, at the fight’s conclusion he felt a familiar feeling grip his insides - an inner clawing for more of the adrenaline and thrill combat provided. As he began to find his calling, or perhaps his next fixation, the rest of his family fell into their vices as well. His father into infidelity, and his obsession with mankind; his mother, the drink - locking herself within the family spire. For Ristikus, it would be the fighting - the complexity and chaos that came with it.
The Third War, and what followed:
Due to his father’s political connections, Ristikus was reassigned to a personal security detail for the diplomatic corps in Stormwind, specifically - an attaché to his father’s pursuits in the realm of the humans. Now a senior Sergeant in the Elven Infantry, although this transfer was against his will - Ristikus had spent several years fighting the Amani and later the Orcish tribes throughout Eversong and upon the ramparts of Silvermoon. Upon their repulse, he did not make much of an effort to counter the opportunity for a rest. Word would later spread of a plague in the northern territories, and whispers of the slaughter of Stratholme - but Ristikus dismissed them, and had not shared his father’s concern for the people of Lordaeron. Instead, he would spend his off-duty time as his father did, drinking and enjoying the more risqué opportunities afforded to him by the kingdom of Stormwind. Upon learning of the siege of Quel’Thalas, Ristikus demanded the diplomatic corps be dissolved and all able-bodied elves ride hard north to aid in it’s defense. His father, flatly refused - choosing a foreign people over his own. Ristikus, and the few subordinates within the attaché traveled north only to find Silvermoon in a ruinous husk. Upon his return, he managed to find a few survivors within the city - most of whom were apart of the aristocracy, capable of locking themselves away within their spires while the common elf was slaughtered by the scourge below. This included his mother, who apparently survived only by passing out in a drunken stupor within the family tower - drinking away all thoughts of the invasion. Because of the limited manpower in defense of the city, Ristikus was commissioned a captain - and took command of a company of infantry. In the years leading up to the the elven alliance with he Horde, Ristikus spent his time bolstering the defense of the city, and back to his original duties - fighting off now more than just the Amani. Each major conflict following the re-opening of the Dark Portal to Outland, Ristikus led his company - clinging to the pursuit and satisfaction he drew from combat. He would later help found the Silvermoon Expeditionary Warfare Training Center at the behest of Lady Liadrin and her Sunsworn, developing war-fighting doctrine for the armies of the Sin’Dorei and their now Horde counterparts. Officially, Ristikus declared his father missing and assumed dead in the scourge’s assault on Quel’Thalas, and given the death toll, the city did not question it - recognizing him as a hero of the diplomatic corps. Partheas Brandt - a true Sin'Dorei, who took up the sword one final time in defense of his city - a narrative that is still referenced for up-and-coming diplomats within Silvermoon City today.
