History Before The Grim: Bartantalus lightfist, as he was known before he became a sunwalker, was born in the uncertain years before the third war reached kalimdor and at a time when the Tauren had no permanant home in the barrens. He grew up quick and strong as was required of him by the clan, he often considered he had a deeper understanding of the sun then most tauren, but as the clan need all strong males to fight for the protection of their tribe he focused on martial training. During the events of the third war, he stood guard over those to young, old, or sick to join in the defense of Mt hyjal. While some would consider this a dishonor, Bartantalus accepted it with solemn regard. It is during this time that he met his future wife Asherun. She was part of another clan, and had a unique and personally chosen duty. She would oversee,record, and later retell the deaths of tauren that had no family, or whose family were not present. But it was not until Bartantalus had a near death experience that they became close. after taking what should have been a fatal arrow to the neck, it was Asheruns timely intervention and vanquishing of the centaur scout, that saved his life. thereafter he made it his duty to follow and guard her wherever she choose to go. Soon after the founding of Durotar and the crisis involving Admiral Proudmore, they wed and had 2 children.
It was during the events of the burning legions invasion of azeroth due to the newly opened Dark Portal that Bartantalus became aware of his connection to An'she once more. His exsploits during this time were rather covert. his superiors in the horde command deemed fit to assign him to a elite unit comprised of Blood knights, mages, and Warriors specifically tasked with eliminating high priority demonic threats to the Horde on Outland. It was during this time that he noticed how effective he was against the minions of the burning legion, and the time when he earned the name "lightfist" after singlehandedly defeating a dread lord Lieutenant with his bare hands, burning its face off with the power of the sun. It is worth noting, that this was the time he began to feel uneasy around those touched by undeath. This feeling would eventually have dire consequences.
After the conclusion of the shattered sun Offensive, bartantalus retreated to his family home in Northern Mulgore to reflect upon his growing connection to An'she. He would later join the argent crusade as a paladin initiate in their war against the scourge. It was this dedication to training that led him to be away from his family side during their deaths. Asherun had taken their two children to the Undercity, as they were both in training to take up their mothers mantle, when the RAS revolt took place. They were ultimately killed during the infighting that took place. Bartantalus didn't learn of this until shortly before the Argent tournament preparations were underway. The moment the words of his family's death fell upon his ears, he lost his purpose and abandoned the Argent Crusade to return home.((TBC))
