Grim Application For <Jaymahsun>

How did you hear about The Grim?
Rather long story short - I'm a long time resident of the Twisting Nether server, and a big fan of the Gazette. I've always believed in the community on this server - and by far the longest, most stable running tradition on this server which even predates TNG to an extent is The Grim. It would be hard for me to remember how I first heard about the Grim, but I remember one of my original interactions with the Grim was interesting, almost ten years ago? Perhaps nine (when this many years pass in a video game community, does it even matter how many it was anymore? Hahah). I had a troll hunter, "Zusteakai," and while briefly leading the Frostwolf Brotherhood for Brakogar, things were somewhat tenuous between our guilds in character wise.

Though I also recall quite a lot of interesting partnership with the Grim under my warrior when I returned as, "High General Alekander Mikhail Andro," and led the Korkron Vanguard, which I'm afraid also was not to last. Though we did momentarily eclipse the Grim in membership, such things were quite brief, and I was on my way to college, with all the stress of a college freshmen before I'd even graduated High School. Fortunately, the Grim was kind enough to absorb much of the membership I'd brought to the Twisting Nether server under that project, and years later I'm ready for a similar (more stable) guild where I don't have to deal with the stress of management myself. I've always respected this guild - and nothing proves its ultimate stability more than it surviving Mists of Pandaria and the Pandaland Chronicals.

What experience do you have with internet forums? Do you check them frequently or infrequently?
- I've been both frequent and infrequent with forums. It depends on what my personal life looks like, and lately that is pretty stable and manageable. I tend to check only one or two forums frequently in a given week .. and I'm not a big fan of Facebook, so I'm likely to spend more time here than there.

What sort of role-playing experience do you have? Would you consider yourself a beginner or Gary Gygax?
- I'd posit my experience as this: I don't know who Gary Gygax is - so I'm no 10 out of 10; but I've been doing message board roleplay since before I heard about MMOs, and perhaps a year after I got my first computer. I'd say I was twelve, and it was 2002. I'd rather not do that math, so I know my average reader probably won't want to do that math.. but I'd say I'm .. decent. When I'm putting in the effort; perhaps an 8/10.

The Grim are considered a Lawful Evil guild. Do you have any experience playing a character of this alignment or a character archetype that believes in structure with evil intent?
-Frankly, no. This is my first real attempt at lawful evil since I played a Dark Elf in Everquest 2 before I quit because I figured out Warcraft actually took RP (and later RP-PvP) seriously.
You could say Alekander was more Chaotic Neutral.. what with his end-goal being eradication of the Burning Legion (AKA, revenge for his death at Mount Hyjal) and his solution being forcible political union of the Horde and Alliance (which obviously didn't happen, lol).
So I may need some assistance turning Jaymahsun .. indoctrinating him in a steep regimen of Peace through Annihilation. I've been thinking more lately about the thought processes that lead folks to become extremist in the real world more and more lately, so I'm up for the challenge of taking that into a more fictional setting.

Have you been part of any other guilds in World of Warcraft? If so, who were they and what server do or did they reside on? Let us know of your experience with them and what made you decide to either leave or continue to stay.
-Many guilds I've been in involved a certain cult of personality - usually around my character, I admit. As I got older, my characters were more and more able to deflect that appearance.. so it is up to you if Alekander's Korkron Vanguard was the culmination of those lessons - but at the end of the day, that guild fell not because I was so worried college would be a challenge to balance with leadership, but because I had leaders around me that were more than willing to take up that banner in my absence (like Tecunuman, who would have been the prime balance to surpass my own passion and leadership ability, there were other good candidates but they may not have had the patience at the right moment that he did), but I was sadly unaware that they believed so strongly in my creation that they would be willing to take the reins, so I wasn't around to transition that leadership, or the literal in-game leadership mechanics (I believe I just left, with little warning). Tecunuman and Pyrisath may have been the right dynamic leadership for that transition. Instead, the burden fell to the Grim to clean up after my mess and absorb the members of my guild project. It may have been years ago, but I can and should still take responsibility for that (those who were around for my project have probably forgotten though.. but damn it, perfectionist tendencies.. I have them).

Are you applying on an alt (non-main) character? If so, what are you looking for here that you are not getting from your main character? If you are feeling honest or adventurous, please let us know who your main is.
-Jaymahsun is now my main, for now and likely for at least the first patch of Warlords of Draenor. It has been since the beginning of Twisting Nether that I've had a hunter as my main, so there is a sort of precedent to keep it that way for a while still again. I've missed the class.. and my interest for the others (beyond being a Hunter) is too equal and leaves me too indecisive to be anything else. I want to do well, and my gut says, "Hunter, Warrior, Death Knight," in that order with respect to likelihood of success.

What are your expectations for your character after joining The Grim. What aspect of the game, if any, do you wish to focus on?
-Which brings me right into my next point. Beyond Roleplay, PvP; specifically World-PvP and Arenas. I want to be excellent at PvP, and useful in helping myself and others see much or most of the high end PvE content; though my main focus is PvP.
It seems this aspect of the reason of why I play World of Wacraft hasn't changed in ten years.

What is your PvE (player-versus-environment) experience in World of Warcraft? What classes and roles do you enjoy the most in a raid environment? Do you have any PvE experience from other MMO games?
- Heh, beyond my first LFR I just completed - my end game experience is rusty as all hell. It goes back to you guys, actually. ZG with Fate's Hand, and Molten Core with The Grim and a collective of other players from before Burning Crusade. Luckily enough, the Grim was willing to give me a shot at that all those years ago.

What is your PvP (player-versus-player) experience in World of Warcraft? What classes and roles do you enjoy the most in a PvP environment? Do you have any PvP experience in other MMO games?
- Consistent PvP, and World PvP, going back to the beginning of this game. I've not been the best PvPer, but when I'm doing well it is more because of my ability to help lead others. Time will tell if I will be able to take PvP to the next level as a Hunter (usually my PvP leadership was as a warrior), and if not, then I may focus on a Warrior or something like that; but I'm pretty determined to make Hunters work. It is after all my first class in WoW, and that makes it somewhat personal. I also had some experience with PvP in Everquest 2, but it was marginal, as WoW blew the Everquest 2 PvP experience out of the water, and consistently so.

Did you read and understand our guidelines on character names, listed at the beginning of this application? (Please note, if your name does not fall within our guidelines and you do not want to do a name change, you are more than welcome to apply under a different character.)
-Aye. Typically in orcish society names are not as long as Jaymahsun's so he often just goes by, "Jay."

How is your computer performance when playing World of Warcraft? What is your FPS/load times during heavy graphical or high population times? Is your internet connection stable?
- High speed connection at both my house and my girlfriend's house. If I'm having latency issues it is usually either because I'm upstairs on WiFi at either house, or more often and lately - the world server is crashing.
[If I'm playing with either my girlfriend or my best friends in the room with me, and we're having latency issues, just remind us in game to please go downstairs (if I remind them, they'll complain they don't want to move), especially if it is affecting our over all productivity as a group. :D]

Provide an armory link to your character.
-I believe this shall suffice, let me know if it doesn't function: http://us.battle.net/wow/en/character/t ... sun/simple

Do you have anything further to add?

- Saint Peter wouldn't let me into Heaven so I'm really hoping the Grim will let me send the Alliance to hell. Wait wut.

I remember Alek quite fondly and still use his memory in writings on occasion. Good to see you're back.
