Grim Application For Serrain

How did you hear about The Grim?

- My friend, Rujaa, goes on and on about how awesome you guys are. :D

What experience do you have with internet forums? Do you check them frequently or infrequently?

- I’ve been using internet forums for many, many years. I’m a pretty frequent forum user.

What sort of role-playing experience do you have? Would you consider yourself a beginner or Gary Gygax?

- I’d consider myself to be somewhere in between a beginner and having intermediate experience. My RP experience is honestly kind of random. Years ago I used to do forum RP quite a bit. I’ve been involved in one online D&D campaign, so I have a teeny bit of experience there. The only RPing I’ve done inside an MMORPG was in LotRO for a couple of months. I did enjoy it, but often found myself a little quiet during events. I’ve always wanted to try RPing in WoW, but never have. I’ve always created personalities and motivations for my characters, interestingly enough, but never really acted them out socially.

The Grim are considered a Lawful Evil guild. Do you have any experience playing a character of this alignment or a character archetype that believes in structure with evil intent?

- I don’t. I generally find myself going with Neutral Good, Chaotic Good, or Lawful Good (boring, I know!). Stepping outside of my usual box sounds kind of fun, however, so I’m definitely willing to give it a shot.

Have you been part of any other guilds in World of Warcraft? If so, who were they and what server do or did they reside on? Let us know of your experience with them and what made you decide to either leave or continue to stay.

- I’ve been playing WoW since late Vanilla and have been on multiple servers (Cenarion Circle (alliance) was my first home, then Kel’Thuzad (alliance), then Farstriders (horde). Finally now my alliance home base is on Borean Tundra). I’ve been in quite a few guilds, some raiding-based, others social. Most of the guilds I’ve been a part of end up falling apart due to people losing interest in the game. I tend to follow my friends around a lot. The social experiences of WoW drive me more than anything to stay with the game.

This will be the first guild I’ve applied for on this particular character (she’s still leveling).

Are you applying on an alt (non-main) character? If so, what are you looking for here that you are not getting from your main character? If you are feeling honest or adventurous, please let us know who your main is.

- Yep, this is an alt. My main’s an alliance protection paladin on Borean Tundra: http://us.battle.net/wow/en/character/b ... lan/simple

He’s part of an awesome tight-knit 10-man normal raiding group, but everyone tends to go their own ways after the raid night’s over. I’d love to be part of a guild that does more than one thing. The combination of PvP/PvE and RP really sounds like something I’d enjoy.

What are your expectations for your character after joining The Grim. What aspect of the game, if any, do you wish to focus on?

- I’d ideally like to make a couple new friends and continue leveling while exploring RP possibilities and PvE/PvP possibilities that last for a good long while after hitting 90.

What is your PvE (player-versus-environment) experience in World of Warcraft? What classes and roles do you enjoy the most in a raid environment? Do you have any PvE experience from other MMO games?

- I’m definitely a PvEer at my core. I’ve done casual raiding, hardcore-ish raiding, and everything in between. I raided all the way through the latter part of Vanilla, TBC, WotLK, and the very early part of Cata. I MTed Kel’Thuzad’s alliance-first 25-man Heroic Lich King (pre-nerf) kill back in WotLK. That was probably the height of my raiding “career” so to speak, hah. I took a break in Cata and returned on a much more casual level in Mists.

I’m a tank type of player. I’ll occasionally find a healer class (resto shaman!) or melee DPS class (feral druid!) that really catches my interest, but there’s something about tanking that speaks to me. Besides my pally tank, I also have a 90 alliance bear tank and an up-and-coming alliance DK tank. I’m not the best at vocally leading folks around, but give me an opportunity to protect my teammates and turn a chaotic situation into something manageable and win-worthy, and I’m totally there.

I’ve played, um, a lot of MMORPGs at the PvE level. Ragnarok Online, Age of Conan, SWTOR, LotRO, RIFT, TSW, FFXIV, Guild Wars 2, Elder Scrolls Online, WildStar. I dive around a lot and try out new things, but nothing can quite keep my interest like WoW can.

What is your PvP (player-versus-player) experience in World of Warcraft? What classes and roles do you enjoy the most in a PvP environment? Do you have any PvP experience in other MMO games?

- I’m kind of picky when it comes to PvP. I enjoy it, but only in situations where I can group up with other players and enjoy it from a teamwork/objective type of angle. I don’t enjoy solo queueing for BGs, but get a couple people together, get on vent, ask me to come along, and I’m totally game. I used to take part in world PvP quite a bit on my druid back in Vanilla, and I really loved that. I’m hoping I can get back into PvP more on this server. I haven’t actually PvPed in many games aside from WoW. Oh, Ragnarok Online if that counts. Classic WoE was friggen’ amazing.

I tend to enjoy PvP roles where I can protect my teammates, serve as an annoyance/distraction to the enemies, and do a bit of everything if the situation calls for it. I’m all about the hybrids when it comes to PvP. Feral/guardian druid is a perfect example. I also enjoy tank-like roles like flag running and orb protecting and whatnot.

Did you read and understand our guidelines on character names, listed at the beginning of this application? (Please note, if your name does not fall within our guidelines and you do not want to do a name change, you are more than welcome to apply under a different character.)

- Yep.

How is your computer performance when playing World of Warcraft? What is your FPS/load times during heavy graphical or high population times? Is your internet connection stable?

- Good. I’m on a pretty solid gaming machine and haven’t noticed any major holdups. My internet is usually pretty stable.

Provide an armory link to your character.

Do you have anything further to add?

- I know you’re going to ask about my availability, so here you go:

I tend to play during the later evening hours and into the wee hours of nighttime. My raid nights are currently Mon/Tues from 8-10ish server time, but I’m generally available most other nights around that time and later (the later the better for me generally, hah). I don’t always get a chance to log on every night due to my work schedule being fairly project-based and therefore random, but I’ll try and be around when I can.
