Grim Application For Qwentyn Thorne
How did you hear about The Grim?
- Years ago when I was considering transferring to TN I came across your guild in some of the postings concerning TNGazzette. I was intrigued, but didn't actually come across any of your folks until you raided Ironforge (CRZ to Emerald Dream) and engaged Clan Battlehammer. (My main is one of the Clan's top officers..."Rhusty")
What experience do you have with internet forums? Do you check them frequently or infrequently?
- well, I haven't been banned from the official wow forums yet, but if that's a requirement, I'll work on it. :) I check them regularly and post when necessary, defnitely not one to spam meaningless QQ and such. I've even drop an RP story on the forums on rare occasion.
What sort of role-playing experience do you have? Would you consider yourself a beginner or Gary Gygax?
- I've been role-playing since I began playing D&D in the mid 1970's. I'm a minimalist when it comes to RP, since I dislike the over-extravagant nature many bring to it. My characters are working-class, normal folk...not some demon-spawn of the Lord of the 3rd tier of Hell (or whatever ridiculous aspect I see on others each day). As to the Gary Gygax question...well, I actually played with him at DragonCon '88. He GM'ed my party and we won the D&D tournament of the Con. Does that count? :)
The Grim are considered a Lawful Evil guild. Do you have any experience playing a character of this alignment or a character archetype that believes in structure with evil intent?
- actually, it's the one aspect of Horde life I can identify with and enjoy. To me the Klingon's somewhat portray the concept of Lawful Evil. Strict enforcement of totalitarian laws with brutal consequences. Strength and ferocity held in check by honor and duty...hence why I play a paladin. I don't think of it as "evil intent" though, but rather completely selfish intent. Evil is a point of view...and based on the perception of the viewer.
Have you been part of any other guilds in World of Warcraft? If so, who were they and what server do or did they reside on? Let us know of your experience with them and what made you decide to either leave or continue to stay.
- I started and ran a 200+ person guild "The Stonemasons" on the Crushridge server back in BC. It lasted about 2 years and sort of dwindled into obscurity. I realm transfered to Emerald Dream looking for RP along with the PVP I already loved, and happened across "Clan Battlehammer" which I immediately joined with my dwarf paladin (Rhusty). He was promoted to "General", 2nd only to the "King" (Guild Master), and have been running 75% of the wpvp and bg events for the guild for the guild since Oct 2011. I've been deeply involved with personnel issues, drama nullificiation, promotions/reprimands, grooming of future officers & leaders, event coordination/leadership, multi-guild alliances, and many large scale RP events.
Are you applying on an alt (non-main) character? If so, what are you looking for here that you are not getting from your main character? If you are feeling honest or adventurous, please let us know who your main is.
- As mentioned previously, this is a horde alt of mine, my main character is "Rhusty" a 90 paladin on Emerald Dream (US). ps...I don't hide any alts...hate that stuff...
What are your expectations for your character after joining The Grim. What aspect of the game, if any, do you wish to focus on?
- I'd like to have a place where I can enjoy horde RP on occasion and advancement with a guild as a bit of a break from my responsibilities on ED.
What is your PvE (player-versus-environment) experience in World of Warcraft? What classes and roles do you enjoy the most in a raid environment? Do you have any PvE experience from other MMO games?
- I love both tanking and dps (Prot/Ret pally) in PVE and PVP. PVP is generally ret cept in cases where needed as an FC or guarding flags. PVE I like tanking for the most part...but will always dps when needed. I'm flexible :) Just don't ask me to heal much...I can on a priest, but in plate armor I just can't think like a healer :)
What is your PvP (player-versus-player) experience in World of Warcraft? What classes and roles do you enjoy the most in a PvP environment? Do you have any PvP experience in other MMO games?
- My main (Rhusty) has the original "Sergent Major" title from BC pvp era. He's fully geared tyrannical from rbg's & arena's. I have much experience in both. WPvP I've run 100+ person multi-raids against cities bosses & armies and have the "For the Alliance" title on my main. Most notable was leading the raid that downed all 4 city bosses in one evening (Garrosh twice) and tanking the server first kill of Garrosh post MoP release.
What is your regular World of Warcraft play schedule? If your answer is "anytime", "flexible", or some other vague word please describe why. Our scheduled interview times are 8pm on Monday and 10am on Wednesdays. Can you make either of those times?
- Perhaps random is more accurate. I have a family and my free time changes from day to day. Currenlty I'm commited to Tues/Sun evenings on ED, but generally play almost every evening from 9pm-1am(Arizona time) at least. Weekends , given a large extended family are quite random, although I usually squeeze in a few hours each day.
How is your computer performance when playing World of Warcraft? What is your FPS/load times during heavy graphical or high population times? Is your internet connection stable?
- Normal operation is 65-100 fps...tanking Garrosh with 2 raids in the room and 2 raids defending I still get between 15-24 fps. Most computers lag to about 1fps during those encounters. iCore5 w/ 8GB ram, nVidia GT 420 video card.
Provide an armory link to your character.

Do you have anything further to add?
- I write addon's too...author name: Chrome67 on both wowinterface and curse :) Also, I do Fraps videos when I can...
