Lilliane

(IC) What name or title do you go by?

      - Lilliane will be sufficient. My titles are many and long and undoubtedly more than one peace is embellished, but I'm quite certain you don't care.

(IC) What is your gender and race?

      - I am a Blood Elf female. Undoubtedly you've encountered some of my kind that prefer the word Sin'dorei. I see no reason to complicate the matter.

(IC) What is your class in life?  Why did you choose to follow this class?

      - I am a Paladin. I provide front-line support to Horde military forces. Particularly, I support those forces thorough two primary specializations: healing and interrogation. I chose to become a Paladin because it allows me a prime tactical view of the battlefield and places me in a position of unmatched control over it.

Or were you expecting me to use the tired old joke and say "upper" like so many other Blood Elves?

(IC) How would you describe yourself?

      - If I had to be succinct, I would tell you two things. First, I have an enormous, if fragile, ego. Second, I am never wrong. Don't make the mistake of thinking that I don't know exactly what I'm doing.

(IC) How many "Honorable" Kills do the Battlemasters currently have recorded for you?

      - Just over 30,000. But who's counting?

(IC) What drives you in life?  How would the Grim benefit from having you among its ranks?

      - I am driven by the desire to succeed and the acknowledgment of my superiority by my peers. And everyone else. If it is your goal to motivate me, you can do little better than (correctly) attributing the successful anihilation of your foes to my contribution.

The Grim's benefit, therefore, is plain: I will contribute to the successful annihilation of its foes.

(IC) What did you do prior to The Grim?

      - I served on the front lines of the Horde military effort. I am, unfortunately, a victim of my own success. After fulfilling my role exceptionally, the legion to which I was first attached has moved to less exciting prospects. To serve my interest of keeping in a tactically stimulating environment, I have elected not to pursue them and instead remain with forces that are still in the thick of engagement. Namely, you.

(IC) What are your thoughts on the pact between the Alliance and the Warchief Thrall?

      - I am undecided upon Thrall's decision. On one hand, he has demonstrated a brilliant and consistent capacity for strategy. On the other, this pact seems short-sighted and emotionally invested. I have not ruled out the potential for his decision to play a small role in a larger plan, but as the months draw on, my faith that he is making an... enlightened decision grows weak.

(OOC) The Grim is a role-playing guild that requires full immersion (heavy RP) of their members.  What does that mean to you?

      - It means that the RP policy is fully enforced in The Grim and there is no OOC allowed in public channels like say, yell and emotes. From what my husband tells me, this also applies to raid chat and public channels like general or trade (that I'm never in anyway), but from my experience so far it seems to be hit or miss in party chat and 10-mans. I'm sure that I will run afoul of this a few times, but I assure you it's not intentional. I understand "the spirit of the law" but I'm still working on "the letter" of it.

(OOC)  The Grim are considered a Lawful Evil guild, ruled by structure and a defined chain of command with the intent to see the complete annihilation of their enemies.  How does your character's personality and storyline follow the Grim Mandate?  Is there any conflict between how you want to play your character and the theme of the Grim?  If so, what do you expect out of joining us?

      - Ever since I got my T2 judgment set on Jilliane, I've been tempted to play her as this evil sort of interrogation person but one of my pet peeves about characters is that people never keep them "good" when they make good guys and they always give in to the temptation of having shades of gray. I'm happy to say that throughout playing her, I never compromised that. Now it will be fun to finally explore it!
At worst, I can see this conflicting with the Mandate with regard to cross-faction encounters, because if I ever get someone who wants to play prisoner with me, I'm not going to kill them outright - I'm going to take my time with a real nasty interrogation!

(OOC) What sort of role-playing experience do you have, online or off-line?  Do you consider yourself a beginner or Gary Gygax?

      - I have experience both role-playing online and offline, but I hope if I put "beginner" here you guys will give me a little more slack and leeway! All clever jokes aside, I really DO make typos all the time and I do hate it when people let that get in the way of good roleplaying. It's like that Penny Arcade story arc where Gabe is trying to write a D&D campaign and he tells Tycho that he just has these "ideas" that he wants to get out and turn into a campaign. He's not the most eloquent at expressing it, but the effort and the substance is really there underneath.

(OOC) Do you have any previous WoW experience?  (PvP, Raiding, Battlegrounds, Different Servers, Different Guilds, Different Factions, etc.)

      - Yes, I have extensive raiding experience from Alliance-side in my previous guild, First Legion where I served as main tank healer and heal-lead. I have a large number of max-level alts with which I have raided on, but they are all still Alliance side (and at $30 a pop they're probably going to stay there too!)

(OOC) Is this character a server-transfer or has it been renamed recently?

      - Yes. This character is a faction-transfer and was previously named "Jilliane".

(OOC)  What are you, the player, looking for in the Grim? What are your expectations of the guild?

      - I'm looking for a guild that I can play in with my husband (Ralaya, was previously Fynne) so that we can both enjoy the game together. I really do love roleplaying even if raiding is more of my passion.
The biggest thing I'm expecting from the guild is also my biggest fear, and that is that I will get a lot of grief over my roleplaying skill. I really do take criticism (especially with regard to personal traits, like RPing ability) very hard and I hope people will be gentle on me. Other than that, my expectations with regard to raiding capability were already exceeded from my first night raiding with you guys. I wasn't expecting perfection but the atmosphere was very disciplined and the skill level was way above where I had assumed it would be, so I'm sorry for low-balling the estimate there!
(OOC)  When joining the Grim, each new applicant will be matched up with someone to help them get into the swing of being Grim.  In order to coordinate this, we will need to have a fair approximation of your play schedule.  Please give a general outline below, OR if you wish to keep it private, send a PM to Aquizit.

      - I'm usually on during the day on the weekdays, but I'm trying to cut back a little in the evenings because my husband says I'm addicted (and I am), so I will probably try to tailor which evenings I'm available around being able to attend the 25-man raiding and the 10-man raids with my husband.

(OOC) Please provide an armory link to your character for verification.

(IC/OOC) Do you have anything further to add?

      - I apologize for my writing skill and hope my misspellings aren't too much trouble.

One detail is lacking.

((Don't worry to much about typing ability, it's easy to explain away typos IC as not having perfect orcish.))

Lilliane smirks. It never really progresses to a full-on smile, but the corner of her mouth definitely twitches with some manner of muted amusement. The bemused look vanishes almost as quickly as it appeared.

"You don't know me yet, so I'm going to allow you this one mistake." She locks eyes with Thalevia, the one who dared critique her and taps her fingers on the application. "Now you're going to take out your stamp and you're going to put some nice ink on this that says 'Accepted' before I put you in your place. I'm only warning you once."

Thalevia eyes the paladin unimpressed and pulls a scroll from her pack.

"I was entirely unaware your race had such issues with literacy.  If that is indeed not the case than I must insist you sit down and read the application forms over and correct what you are missing.  Rules must be followed and until they are I cannot, as you so cutely put it, stamp this as approved."

Thalevia hands over the extra copy of the application forms and points to a nearby chair.

"Once your omission is corrected, the High Inquisitor will contact you for your interview.  And he will not do so before the correction is made."

That bemused look returns. It doesn't vanish quite as easily this time. This woman takes a perverse amount of pleasure from asserting her superiority, especially when a victim walks so compliantly into one of her traps. She also loves to hear herself talk.

"I want you to pay attention, dear, because this is important," Lilliane leans down and walks her fingers slowly across the application until she stops near the bottom. "Do you know why you put that little bit at the end? 'I' know why you do it. It's to assert your dominance by demonstrating that the other person isn't as perfect as they think they are. It keeps egos in check through public embarassment."

She lifts her head to stare at Thalevia. "Your ego is running amok."

"Let's read this together, shall we?" she coos in a condescending tone, "'Include somewhere in your answer to the final question the phrase "Peace through Annihilation.'" Lilliane glances up again and her smirk has blossomed to a grin. Like a cat toying with its prey, she continues, "And let's look at my answer. 'I apologize for my writing skill and hope my misspellings aren't too much trouble.'"

"But you didn't really READ that carefully, did you, my dear? I'm certain that you, who must pour over so many of these applications, can appreciate the irony in that statement. Let's go back and read through it closer, together, shall we?" The paladin's fingers dance back through her application until settling on a particular portion.

"Right here. After this part where you ask what name or title I answer to. I believe I replied that, 'undoubtedly more than one peace was embellished,'" her fingers walk a few more steps to another passage. "And here, where you ask why I became a paladin. I remarked that I support military endeavors thorough two primary specializations. Surely I must have meant 'through', don't you think?" She looks up and stares at Thalevia, her tone matching the mockery burning in her eyes, "Lastly, you asked me what drives me in life. I mentioned 'the successful anihilation of your foes'. Funny, though, that I spelled 'annihilation' correctly everywhere else."

Her voice drops to a whisper. The pleasure she's taking in turning the public embarassment against the one who would be inflicting it otherwise is positively radiating from her. "So if we look back at that last answer, where I draw attention to the only mistakes in my application, can you tell me what those three words are?" Her words spill out as though she were cooing to a child.

"Unless we need to convene the entire membership of the Grim and have me explain your error before everyone? But I'm sure we don't need to do that. I'm sure that you will agree that it is perfect."

"And dear? I did warn you that I would put you in your place. Don't question me again unless you're very, very sure."

(I'd like to personally thank my husband for the heads up on that! I would have walked right into it and probably gotten WAY butthurt about people critiquing me/making fun of me for missing it, even if it is part of the initiation and almost everybody does it!)

Greebo walks over and whispers in the blood knight's ear.

"Final Question not scattered throughout. And it isn't for ego, it's to see if you pay attention and can follow orders. You fail on both counts. I lead the assaults on the citadel here, *girl* and I have more blood knights than I can shake a squid's head at."

*his voice rises*

"We are not some collection of cowering clerks, exiled to Silvermoon for their foolishness, *girl*.  You came to us, not the other way around. If Aquizit accepts you into our ranks you would do well to ponder if it is merely to teach you discipline. Leave her pen and ink and her paper, Thalevia. Haathun and I have more important work for you than nurse-maiding.

Cristok stares wide eyed at the encounter in the Guild hall in an unassuming hallway nearby. He tries backing away slowly and silently to avoid the angry elves and deaders. Mumbling to himself he wonders aloud who will come away from Aquizit and Lilliane's meeting.

" I wonder if I could borrow those trumpeters..."

On a small stool in an entirely uncomfortable tent, Faeriel listened to the recounting of the incident from her stable girl.  She was rather pleased that her efforts to teach the little wretch proper conversational recall were finally paying off.  She spoke carefully and accurately, and when the tale was done, Fae dismissed her and waited long enough to ensure she was out of earshot before laughing aloud.  "Now that's the sort of spark and assertiveness we've been missing around here,â€
