Grim Application For Abahtu

How did you hear about The Grim? Do you know anyone in The Grim?

- I do actually know someone in The Grim. He goes by Aderlee and he's a RL friend of mine who I've played games with for some time now. He said you guys were some of the most unique and entertaining RP he'd ever been in so I decided to check things out!

The forums are The Grim’s primary method of communication. Will you check them regularly (at least a few times a week)?

- I can check them at any time. I don't work currently, so I can basically leave the forums up all day. Not a problem.

Tell us about your roleplaying experience. In WoW? Elsewhere? Do you consider yourself a heavy RPer? What does that mean to you?

- I am a long-standing veteran of the RP world. I originally started role playing around the time WoW released, if not slightly before that with a bit in Dark Age of Camelot. I have done both in-person and over-comms RP, as well as written stories on forums, even drafted a couple of "How to RP like a pro" guides for guilds requiring some guidance on proper general conduct in an RP space. That being said, I'm not so pretentious to believe that I know "everything" about RP. I enjoy it, being a writer. Some of my strongest and most amazing friendships have been born initially in the RP I've been involved with on WoW.

The Grim are considered a Lawful Evil guild. Do you have any experience playing a character of this alignment or a character archetype that believes in structure with evil intent?

- Admittedly, I've never done evil RP. But it sounds like a lot of fun to me. As a writer, I enjoy horror and suspense, intrigue, stuff like that. So, let's have it!

Have you been part of any other guilds in World of Warcraft? If so, who were they and what server do or did they reside on? Let us know of your experience with them and what made you decide to either leave or continue to stay.

- This is either going to be a brief response, or an essay, so let's go with the former. I've been in so many guilds now I can't remember them all. I do know that Emerald Dragoons on Silver Hand was where I first RP'd in WoW, and it's been an insane ride ever since. Silver Hand, Sisters of Elune, Wyrmrest Accord, I've been on them all, seen MORE than my fair share of RP across countless guilds. Regarding departures, it's been all over the place for rationale. I've left for inactivity, I've left for personal reasons, I've left for misconduct, I've just seen such a broad collection of noise in this game that has pushed me away from groups.

Are you applying on an alt (non-main) character? If so, what are you looking for here that you are not getting from your main character? If you are feeling honest or adventurous, please let us know who your main is.

- Abahtu is presently an alt. My main is a Pandaren Monk, but the story/personality I wrote for him isn't anything that would ever fit in The Grim's Mandate. I want to play Abahtu more, though, so I'm willing to put in the time on him as well, when I'm called to The Grim.

What race and class is this character? Why did you choose this race and class?

- Abahtu is a Forsaken Warlock. Admittedly the foundations of this character were not in RP, but I wanted to play an undead warlock for years for a few reasons. Firstly, I think the Forsaken are by far the most unsettling race available to us, and their personality/laughter always makes me think of the evil dude in a basement somewhere sacrificing puppies. Now, I see huge potential in RP for undead, unlike anything other races would have available to them.

What are your expectations for your character after joining The Grim? What aspect of the game do you wish to focus on (raids, rated battlegrounds, arenas, challenge modes, achievements, etc.)?

- I want to experience a side of RP that I've never been able, or willing, to explore. WoW is always painted as a bright, cheery, mostly-happy-ending type of place. At this point, unfortunately, or rather fortunately, the subject of a vast majority of my fury at the Alliance died in this current expansion. I was fed up with Varian, and honestly, I felt vindication when he met his fate. I sincerely hope they never bring him back. Abahtu felt some kind of connection to his death at the hands of a warlock, and found unhealthy satisfaction at the news of his murder.

What is your PvE (player-versus-environment) experience in World of Warcraft? What classes and roles do you enjoy the most in a raid environment? Do you have any PvE experience from other MMO games?

- I started playing about three months after WoW released. In that time, I have seen, in some capacity, every raid since then that I can recall. I've done every dungeon, seen most zones, done more than my share of dailies, most story quests, etc. Needless to say, I'm probably overly familiar with WoW's PvE world. As far as roles, I consider myself a damned good healer with far too many years of experience doing so. To date, I think I've played every healing class in some degree, at max level. Mistweaving is the one I focus on now, and likely will remain the only one.

From other games, I have a ton of PvE experience as well. Final Fantasy (both MMOs), CoX, CO, Neocron, STO, DAoC, AoC, the list goes on...

What is your PvP (player-versus-player) experience in World of Warcraft? What classes and roles do you enjoy the most in a PvP environment? Do you have any PvP experience in other MMO games?

- I've got quite a bit of time in the battlespace on WoW, at varying levels and classes/roles. I'm a long-standing veteran of "Old Alterac Valley" when the fights took hours, not minutes. The best training I ever got for PvP in WoW was "Accept the fact that you're going to die." It literally changed my entire perspective on PvP and I fell in love with it. I'm not great in arenas, but in general PvP, I have a lot of fun and I'm always down to murder Alliance.

Did you read and understand our guidelines on character names, listed at the beginning of this application? (Please note, if your name does not fall within our guidelines and you do not want to do a name change, you are more than welcome to apply under a different character.)

- Damn it all. Does this mean my alt warlock Pheerbomb Dawtcom can't join?

I make a point to name nearly all my characters with some sort of meaning. 20000-names.com is an amazing place to discover your next character name! :D

How is your computer performance when playing World of Warcraft? What is your FPS/load times during heavy graphical or high population times? Is your internet connection stable?

- I'm on a 6th Gen i7 and a GTX 980. WoW is smooth as butter. My net is 60Mbps, and rarely gets pissy.

Provide an armory link to your character.

- https://worldofwarcraft.com/en-us/chara ... ord/abahtu

What days/times do you typically play this character?

- I can play at (almost) any time. Barring real life, usually helping my mom or girlfriend. :P

Have you read the Required Reading? Do you have any questions or concerns about anything there?

- I have, and I don't.

Have you read the Mandate? Do you have any questions or concerns about it? Can your character live by it?

- I have indeed read it, I have no questions, and Abahtu will follow it without question.

Do you have anything further to add?

- I look forward to many Alliance deat...er...working with you guys!

Don't worry, we won't hold that against you. ;) Don't forget your Letter of Intent; once that's been posted we'll set up your interview!
