Grim Application For <Ghosteater>

How did you hear about The Grim? Do you know anyone in The Grim?

Don't really know anyone on the guild. I found browsing around the realm forums.

The forums are The Grim’s primary method of communication. Will you check them regularly (at least a few times a week)?

Sure. Surprised you haven't switched to Discord, everyone and their grandmother in gaming has. But I doesn't see why it would be a problem.

Tell us about your roleplaying experience. In WoW? Elsewhere? Do you consider yourself a heavy RPer? What does that mean to you?

I run TTRPG campaigns so I'm mostly the GM here, but it's a lot of GMing which means jumping into different roles constantly. It's voice-based though, so text-based RPing I'm rusty with.
Not sure if I'm a heavy RPer – I like the stories more than the characters usually. I feel like heavy RPing implies a stronger type of bond with the character.

The Grim are considered a Lawful Evil guild. Do you have any experience playing a character of this alignment or a character archetype that believes in structure with evil intent?
My go-to alignment in TTRPG settings is Neutral Evil, so I think I'll be right at home. I love me the pragmatic, mysterious and driven kind of characters. They are usually adaptable around LE's, flexibly fitting their structures but still avoiding absorption into them due to their steely resolve to fulfill their personal goals. They're surely less disruptive than CE's (not having that necessity to expose and exploit the structures around them), and they can be less disruptive than other LE's (as they don't have a personal structure they want to impose on the already existing one).

Have you been part of any other guilds in World of Warcraft? If so, who were they and what server do or did they reside on? Let us know of your experience with them and what made you decide to either leave or continue to stay.

Many moons ago. When I played in Emerald Dream. It was short lived because I stopped playing soon after. Let's just say we did some WOTLK progression raiding to give you an idea of how long ago it was, and why I barely recall anything.

Are you applying on an alt (non-main) character? If so, what are you looking for here that you are not getting from your main character? If you are feeling honest or adventurous, please let us know who your main is.

This is my main.

What race and class is this character? Why did you choose this race and class?

Troll Monk. I love Troll lore and their individuality mixed with their knowledge that they are spiritually tied to a community, for good or for worse. And... Monks were new, I guess. I like Tanks.

What are your expectations for your character after joining The Grim? What aspect of the game do you wish to focus on (raids, rated battlegrounds, arenas, challenge modes, achievements, etc.)?

Do some light raiding, find people to PvP with, learn more about the game (since I've been in a long hiatus), participate in RP events (as big or small as they might be), and of course do some challenges myself and help others with theirs.

What is your PvE (player-versus-environment) experience in World of Warcraft? What classes and roles do you enjoy the most in a raid environment? Do you have any PvE experience from other MMO games?

I like Tanks. I've done WOTLK (up to Ulduar) raiding. I'm, uhm, solid as a tank, I'd say. I honestly could play anything though. Full disclosure, if the Zandalari next expansion have Paladins, I'll make that my main.
Haven't played other MMORPGs.

What is your PvP (player-versus-player) experience in World of Warcraft? What classes and roles do you enjoy the most in a PvP environment? Do you have any PvP experience in other MMO games?

Rated BGs, and WPvP in Vanilla. I really liked my WOTLK-era Prot Warrior, stunning everyone and darting around the battlefield, casting clutch Spell Reflects.

Did you read and understand our guidelines on character names, listed at the beginning of this application? (Please note, if your name does not fall within our guidelines and you do not want to do a name change, you are more than welcome to apply under a different character.)

Yes.

How is your computer performance when playing World of Warcraft? What is your FPS/load times during heavy graphical or high population times? Is your internet connection stable?

I'd have to check, should be good I think?

Provide an armory link to your character.

Here you go.

What days/times do you typically play this character?

In EST, on weekdays, from 7 onwards. On weekends, not structured.

Have you read the Required Reading? Do you have any questions or concerns about anything there?

Yes and no.

Have you read the Mandate? Do you have any questions or concerns about it? Can your character live by it?

Yes, no and yes.

Do you have anything further to add?

I was surprised by how few RP-based communities were in the server, and how little engaged in raiding. So thank you for creating something that fits my interests! Excited to hear back from you.

We do have a Discord server for guild members, but it is optional. It's more a place to chat during the day than to be used as the official communication center for the guild.

Yes.
"Ghosteater" does not really sound like a trollish name. It's a very strange name for a RP character, and I can't imagine how it fits a troll or a monk. Can you explain?

I'm sure you would have noticed if it were bad! :)

Unfortunately, the RP community has declined on the server this expansion. The bigger RP guilds have turned to Discord for most of their RP. The Grim has recently opened a branch on Wyrmrest Accord, and with cross-server invites, we can invite Grim members from here to RP events over there.

Oh, on the FPS thing, I meant I haven't raided on this computer yet. Works well with other online games though, like Overwatch, so there's that.

Regarding the character name, I'll expand on the Note of Intent, but in way of summary, this character has taken upon himself the legacy of his -now extinct- tribe, erasing his own name to take on as an avatar of retribution for his fallen kin. Ghosteater Tribe was his tribe's name, which fits the Troll naming standards of complement + noun (like Smolderthorn, Skullsplitter, etc.)
