I seem to be stuck downloading wow patch 2.1.1. How very
a) strange
and
b) annoying.

Had the downloader come up, was able to close it. Wonder if that's what caused all my connection problems trying to get into the game.

It's not the pre-loading of the next patch?

That's the Background Downloader, Canai. This was to actually get into the game.

The newest beta client has boned my installation... dont know what it did...

The last few though, if I had ANY torrent program open in the background (aka uTorrent) it would give strange errors and/or fail. Soon as I took uTorrent outa the background processes it cleared it right up.

Not sure if that will help but its something Ive noticed having to deal with.

Overnight I had uTorrent and the PTR downloader running. When I went to bed I was about 30% into the green bar. When I woke up the machine was frozen (I think I have a borked fan) and after I reboot it had completely reset. And all of my Torrent were gone from uTorrent.

The bgdownloader is a complete wreck for all OSes this time around. The Mac version isn't even updated to the point where it would recognize that the patch data was available.

I have a sincerely bad feeling about the release of this expansion.

I was able to fix my own little downloader issue by running the Wow.exe program in the program file of the WoW client, rather than the Launcher. It patched and I'm able to play without issue. However, the downloader isn't downloading this patch for me, which isn't a surprise considering my internet source. Just gotta wait until there's a mirror available, like usual.

I got all data for the patches from a torrent people were linking on the Mac support page. Likely someone on the Windows page has done the same?

I should revise my previous comment: I have a bad feeling about the RELEASE of this expansion.

3 things will make it work (on the PC), you may not need all three (although Syreena's Win XP machine needed all three and while my Win 7 machine already had IE8 it didn't work until I did the other two)

1) Upgrade to IE 8 (yes, the downloader uses the IE8 functions to download the .torrent, so one more reason to laugh at the "I don't use IE so I'm safe" crowd.
2) Run Backgrounddownloader.exe in Compat Mode (Right Click, Properties, Compat -> win 98/ME)
3) Delete Backgrounddownloader.exe and then run Repair. (To make it download the file again from Blizzard)
