thats what im thinking.. but im not seeing much on the way that could be good.

off topic let see only mmo I see that I would try right now

stargate world. this looks like alot of fun.
pros
like that combat is not the only way around things
combat does not meen the badys stand in one place and attack you. they try to flank you.
cons
they have said "this is not a game for RP" that is just odd to me

champoins
could be fun but I fear it will end up playing like COH(same thing over and over).

starwars mmo by bioware
not much is known. bioware makes good game but I dont like the starwars world to much.
every one is going to want to be a dam jedi.

Speaking of RP-PvP, apparently Fordragon Imports has disbanded because Irontoe can't stand running it.  I can't blame him, I wouldn't want to run a guild whose standards for membership are "must have a pulse" either.

But this does mean that we can probably go back to doing outdoor RP events without worrying about being griefed by someone whose idea of "victory" is "I stood in a room for twenty minutes while bluewalled Horde walked past me".
that is till the next guild pops up that want to take us down

I have to admit that I am looking forward to playing Champions Online with hopes it won't be anything like boring ass CoH.  Considering the fact that you create your own nemesis intrigues me.  Being an avid fan and longtime player of the pen and paper Champions I have high hopes for this game.

I've been getting the impression that WoW is on its way out the door.  Evercrack only lasted so long until 2.0 came out.  Ironically many are still playing the original Evercrack as they don't want to give up gear/character/guilds etc.  You can bet your ass that Blizz has a replacement for WoW in the works.

Prolly in about 2-3 years we will be talking about the good ol days of WoW while playing WoW 2.0 or Starcraft MMO.  Or we could all go to Warhammer and be pvp noobs.

Either way we'd have to find a MMO that allows Syreena to throw snowballs or else she'll stalk us and peg us in the back of the head with snowballs irl.  Scary.

This is the one I'm looking forward to most (and not just because I am a total Bioware fanboy) - and yes, everyone will be a Jedi.  But that's okay, because the Jedi are what Star Wars is about -

- and I just had to delete a small essay I wrote here about the symbolism of the Sith and the Jedi but the POINT IS there's room for plenty of moral conflict, moral conflict that is then played out using LASER SWORDS.  Star Wars, at its best, is psychological drama that defaults to laser sword fighting whenever that gets boring - or at least Bioware's version of Star Wars goes that way.

The moment that game comes out, you'll find me in there as a Sith Lord.  Because there are no problems you cannot solve with enough Force Lightning.
that is till the next guild pops up that want to take us down
Well, someone has to keep us on our toes.  FDI at least did a better job of that than Tyrnea Maldeth.

I think its pretty much felt by 'everyone' who plays the game for more then 3-4 hours a week that WoW is on its way out. The market is scrambling for something new to play and that has actually lead to alot of the more overlooked MMOs to gain some ground while everyone waits for the next big thing. Games like Vanguard (Great game, poor execution), EVE (Good Game, crazy Hardcore community), and even the Conan MMO (Pretty game, limited appeal if you have interests outside PvP) have been pushing a bit to the foreground and their crowds are growing a bit. WoW has been hemorrhaging players for months and the fact that the new content is basically a delaying action while all the 'real' talent at Blizzard works over at their new office is pretty clear. I'm pretty sure Blizzcon will announce their new expansion of WoW (Cataclysm) and give a few more hints at the new MMO they've had in development over the last year.

Still either way their are a good number of games to look forward too within the next few months while the delaying action mulls over.

Fallen Earth is coming out within the next couple weeks, looks like an upgraded Tabula Rasha with a far more open ended customization system. Could make a decent 'second' MMO that you play when WoW gets to boring.

Aion will be out in a month. Played the beta for a weekend or two and I was pretty dang impressed with the graphics and combat system, even if every single character was an elf and theirs very little 'individualism' in the game. It seems like most the customization was cosmetic and kinda a 'gathering' thing where you had to track down your skills for a slight advantage in mid-air PvP combat. I can see this game replacing WoW for people who play almost entirely for 'looking pretty' while they play or RP because their 'is' a surprising amount of content built into it for a game thats just a typical Asian RPG.

And even if its not an MMO you can 'not' skip Dragonage if you want to keep yer certified Nerd license. Looks to be the spiritual successor to Baldur's Gate and it shipping with a creation kit that will no doubt lead to an almost endless number of mods and online persistent worlds. I honestly can't wait for it to come out even if their is a good chance I'll be deployed to Afghanistan when it ships.

I've also seen the draw of Champions online but I still can't see how far they can really take a game built around Super Heroes since the entire 'appeal' of superheroes is your saving your little slice of the world from evil. The problem with MMOs is they always end up breaking down the border of good vs evil because their are so 'many' players that they all exist in shades of grey. Even with the 'Make your own Villian' system whats the point of defeating him besides the fact you managed to beat up another NPC they you just happened to design. *le sigh* But then I guess I'm just jaded because I've been so disappointed by so many games who try and define Good vs Evil that it always ends up being Good (players) vs Evil (NPCs who scowl or use bad catch phrases).

Lets not forget Diablo coming out too.  That'll mean we won't see a lot of us around for awhile.  Mmm..Diablo.

I suspect Cataclysm will be the last expansion as it will involve Sargeras the last big villian in the WoW mythos.  Prolly fight Azshara during this expansion as well.  Ugh.  So hoping there is no 3D combat.

Syreena is a noob.

I love the Hero system. The nemesis idea in Champions sounds cool but - I don't have enough time in WoW to do all the things I want so I am happy to stay here. Besides, an MMO with the real Hero system wouldn't work - minmaxing needs a GMs tender love and ministration.

I very much enjoyed my time (1 week) playing LotR Online. Pretty. Nice story line.  Lots of content.

My feeling about user created spaces is - no thanks. I want talented level designers to do my work for me, like in the old days.

It happens.  You never REALLY stop playing an MMO, though... I still drop by FFXI every once in a while to flail around with my Summoner and hurl Diabolos at things.  And if people are going to go off to new games, I'd like to know where to find them, so I can hunt them down and Force Choke them to within an inch of their lives.  Er - I mean: be friends.

I was looking forward to Bioware's MMO.  But now I'm not so sure.  I think the only way I can enjoy a SW MMO is if EVERYONE is some sort of Jedi or NO ONE is.  I'm sick of bounty hunters being refered to as Jedi killers.  I've seen two and they both got curb stomped.  I HATE the idea of some other 'class' being as good as a Jedi.  No one is as good as a Jedi.  So make none of us Jedi or make a different jedi classes for players to be.

Also I see that bountyh hunters can only be on the Sith side which is silly.  Anyone can be a bounty hunter.  Look at Dog!  Most bounty hunters are bringing in prisoners fighting for good!  For a paycheck.

Bleh.  I'm sure I'll get around to swithing to Conan one day.  No elves.  That alone makes it awesome!

The way I always saw SW bounty hunters are as mercenaries for hire who happen to sell your physical body to someone if they catch you.  The Sith just pay better.

I'll probably be along side Kelven, shoving force lightening up peoples asses.

Granted its possible I'll be sitting on Wow still or in Diablo cause I play on a mac and not a PC.

Since we havent heard form the Noob perspective yet, let me chime in on 'Teh Death of WoW'. As far as Im concerned I keep finding WoW fun. Its been years of playing but I have yet to feel 'finsihed' with almost anything. There's always neat stuff to do and plenty of neat folks around if you want to find em. I think as long as you have above a million or so players, which -only- WoW comes close to, then they'll keep developing patches and expansions to let us play.

I imagine WoW growing in a continuous series of expansions and patches expansions and patches that grow and evolve in an increasingly detailed world. Its a brilliant strategy and great design for a game and I see no reason why smart people in a boardroom somewhere aren't plotting this as we speak despite a shrinking player base. Until the expansion actually loses money on a release (which is almost impossible Im sure) they will keep making them.

Alrighty then to reopen a old discussion Champions Online came out this week and I haven't seen any discussion about it at all :). So y'all who have been sneaking a few hours away from WoW to try it...what do you think? My roommate downloaded it from steam and for all intents and purposes it just looks like a realtime version of City of Heroes to me. He recently hit 25 and he claims that fighting that Nemesis of his was fun but it just doesn't seem worth the second subscription since I haven't seen much innovation in the systems so far and I 'did' spend an hour or so watching him.

Champions Online hasn't really attracted me yet - is there a free trial available?

I bought into the Aion preorder, the open(-ish) beta starts this weekend.  We'll see if that keeps my interest until SWTOR hits.

For those who wondered where I went to after my honeymoon, that's where.

What I think CCP (the developers) have done is interesting more from a business than game quality aspect.  Since CCP is independent, keeping the game interesting is vital to future earnings. If Blizzard (Vivendi) or BioWare (ugh...EA) put out a meh game, it's merely a line item on a large balance sheet (although for WoW, I believe it's a large line item for Vivendi (2008 Vivendi revenue: 28 billion Euro, Activision/Blizzard: 5 billion US..but Activision has Guitar Hero, CCP (in 2007): 37 million US). So fostering a "crazy Hardcore community" is, in my opinion, a necessity.

Building such a community has, in my mind, the benefit if giving the players a feel that "hey, they're making this game for my enjoyment, not to extract all the cash out of my wallet". It's nice to play a game where the players do care about the environment they're in.

Now I need to go pod me some clones. :D
