Bits from your average very day tool kit are usually on a higher level hardness than glass and do the same.

I witnessed this first hand in high school when a friend told another friend that the tiny little screw bit would go through a window like butter.  Not believing him, my other friend took the philips bit and threw it at his rear windshield of his car.  The bit went straight through it and the windshield around the hole slowly began to crumple and break inward.

Worst thing our auto shop teacher could have done was let all us hoodlums know that it simply took a chip of ceramic from a spark plug to break auto glass.

We didn't have an intact spark plug in shop for at least a month or two.
