Apparently PETA is organizing a PvP event on the Whisperwind to bring attention to the Northern Canuckistan seal hunt:

Do they know that we help seals have sex too?  (To make more baby seals to kill next year and make more money for Orgrimmar.  Shh!)
But PETA's blog posting indicates the event is a "battleground to stop the slaughter" against a team of four Horde, so there's a very decent chance that's going to happen and end in a clusterfuck of violence.
Do they know what the word "horde" means?  I'm pretty sure there will be more than four people involved.

Why can't they do this on TN?  I'd love to go gut a seal and then tea bag it in front of PETA.  Dancing on the corpse would be a second joy.

WTF was with the american southern accents?!  And legally the hunters aren't allowed to kill the white coats.  They haven't been allowed to since the 70's.

Fuck PETA.

It could be worse
Off the main topic, but some how related...

Hey Hey now relax there man!  PETA is amazing and does amazing work!

I have belonged to PETA for forever.  It is a great organization grounded in welfare and solidarity over a most important issue.
I know we have open enrollment so I urge you to join and help.  The People who like to Eat Tasty Animals needs your support.

If peta really wants the seal hunt to end then they need to go into the northern labrador/newfoundland communities whose inhabitants rely very heavily on the hunt every year and create a renewable industry with jobs and money to replace the need for the hunt.  But you know....I very much doubt they are ever gonna do that, not enough time for real projects after having a bunch of scrawny naked girls protest chicken farms.

oh whatever. Does that mean for all the whalers illegally hunting off the shores of Japan we need to subsidizes thier incomes if we want it to stop? What about the Somali pirates too? hey everyone has to eat? Just cause a people/industry has to make a living doesn't mean it has to be explitative.

The larger issue to me is why certain folks have such a visceral hatred for liberal causes. I mean the sheer venom produced for things like greenpeace and poor skinny PETA chics astounds me...

For me it is a simple utter hatred for people who have no idea who I am or what I do telling me what I can or cannot do.  If I want to go club a seal with a bamboo stick then I am going to wind up and swing for the fences.  Having some crackpot group telling me that it is wrong or what not can piss off.  If they try to stop me then I go find the nearest vat of cow's blood and douse them with it with a fire hose.  Or chuck ground beef at them.  Either one works.

Because they do it with no concern for the ramification of what would happen should the hunt end.  These communities live off it and there is NOTHING else for them to live on in that area except fishing and that is heavily controlled in Canadian waters as well.  And you use two bad examples.  Somali pirates are fishermen who decided pirating is much more profitable.  That's greed.  Lets use another example.  Lets look at Flint Michigan in Detroit where the main employer was I believe a GM factory?  They closed it, suddenly all those people out of work.  The unemployment rate in that city is still around 13% and last year was 14% and is a good example of what happens to a community when you remove the primary source of income for its inhabitants and there is no alternative.

PETA protests things and has no fucking clue what they are actually talking about.  All those videos of in chicken farms and pig farms of poor stressed animals?  Usually they find the one or two in a barn like that film it and cleverly edit so it looks like the entire industry is like that.  And so many reports have been done about how the entire group is so full of shit anyway.  I am sure there are some corrupt farmers and bad barns but they aren't the norm as PETA would like us to believe.

Im not exactly trying to argue on behalf of PETA (I eat the meat baby) I just don't agree with hating on folks that are fighting for a just cause. The same folks that hate PETA are often the same libetarian type people that think if an industry is failing then it SHOULD fail and the workers/business owners are on their own. You make a living farming seals? You better get a degree folks. Its the 21st century.

*note I am neither a trendy libertarian nor a PETA lover*

As mentioned, the SPCA is the outfit that actually does constructive things - PETA is pretty much just a form of entertainment.  You give em' some money, and you know they're gonna go off and do something crazy with it.

Which is fine, they're free to flail around the world going on about sea kittens and Cooking Mama.  Just don't expect me to take em' seriously.

All this really does is prove my theory that Northrend is Blizzard's version of Canada.  I think we should all go down to Borean Tundra and club a few seals in honour of this, then retire to the CN Tower for poutine and maple cookies.

From Spugnort's World newsletter:

PETA LoL - Well, a group of P.E.T.A. activists decided it would be a good idea to bring their real world plight into the virtual world of WoW, and they got mocked like you would not believe! The idea was to host an event and get people to join up with the P.E.T.A. activists to take out the 4 Horde seal hunters harvesting the furs for profit on behalf of Thrall. What actually happened is that a bunch of Hordies set up a guild called the "Seal Club Clubbing Club" and showed up to not only kill the seals, but to put great feasts down and eat from them right in front of the P.E.T.A. people! Now, this is funny! I am a fan of the "each to his/her own" concept, but don't bring your political BS into my game!! Anyhow, you can see some screenshots of the event here, and know that I am giving raspberries to P.E.T.A. right now!
