Well, assuming, I was looking at the right stuff - the VS(Virtual memory size assumably) for WoW remained at541kish (about 30 FPS) and then when it started to lag it jumped to about 675kish and at 10-15 FPS it evened out to about 663k. I'm not sure if this is what I was supposed to be looking at. As far as I can tell there were no Mbs anywhere on any of the other 46 processes.

Yeah, its paging then due to memory pressure. I didn't realize wow was so nasty on the memory usage on windows. Gotta be the new textures with the 3.3 patch.

More memory is the answer. With an older system like that anther Gb or two is only going to be $40 or so.

Hmm ok. I might be able to scrounge up the money for that in the coming weeks. But what can I do before that -- assuming this really is the issue how can I maximize my memory use? Just deleting old games and whatnot or is there something else?

And whether it helps or not -- It remained at roughly 663k from then on out -- whether it was at 5 FPS or 30 FPS... Not sure if that's indicative of anything or not.

Unfortunately, as much as I want to play it really is quite frustrating to play under such conditions. ><

deleting old games won't make a difference. you might try defragging your c: drive.
In Process Explorer, click on the File menu and then Save As. Save it to your desktop or somewhere, open the text file you just saved and paste into this thread.
Do you have an up-to-date antivirus? When was the last time you did a full scan? Do you have an adware scanner like Spybot or Ad-aware? Do you have windows updates set to automatically download and install new things?

Personally I suspect something to do with 3.3. Have you downloaded the latest drivers for your video card?

Again, I'd like to thank everyone for the speedy replies and the patience. I think we're making some progress at least.

The virus thing is the only thing I haven't done. I know, stupid, right? But my step-dad's cheap. One of the Grim told me of Avast anti-virus stuff and I got about 25% complete with a thorough scan of everything and it found a trojan and (I suppose) deleted it before I had to shut it off. If I can remember I plan on having it run all night tonight as I sleep. as for anti-spyware, I'm also lacking in that -- unless Avast covers that.

I'll try the defrag either tonight or tomorrow night. I unfortunately will be gone most of the morning, day and evening tomorrow to make it go any quicker.

As far as I can tell, I actually JUST updated my video card driver after reading through Blizz's Tech Forums with people with similar problems and a link to the latest video card drivers for my card. I'm assuming it'd be something in the first post I posted in the thread, though.

I figured it might be 3.3 but wouldn't it have started as soon as I downloaded it? It didn't seem to have any problems until a few days if not more after I downloaded the patch.

That was the way it was without WoW on.

Here's WoW running normally (at about 30 FPS). It ran a bit better just now. It took maybe 10 minutes to screw up and then it seemed to recover rather quickly. and for some reason it even went up to 40-50 FPS for a couple seconds intermittently too. O.o Maybe because it's 1:30 AM?

Now here it is with the lag at about 15-20 FPS. Granted, for some reason it took a fair bit longer tonight to get to this point and it seemed to recover rather quickly. Whether this is just a fluke or not, I can't tell.

Google around a bit for info on the TurbineDownloadManager and btdna.exe.

Both are known memory / bandwidth hogs.

They do have legitimate uses - the Turbine Download Manager is used by LotRO and btdna.exe is used by lots of bittorrent clients.

Removing - or at lease disabling them - might help out a bit.

The Curseclient is also a massive memory hog. I'd go for disabling that too while you're diagnosing the problem.

You really don't need to look much further.

As everyone else is suggesting, if you up your RAM by a gig you will see a major difference.  Pretty cheap these days too.

In the short term, get rid of your Turbine message center thing (and anything else Turbine).  It is devouring your ram.

Also read this:

http://forums.worldofwarcraft.com/threa ... 5576&sid=1

In particular the blue post that says:
Could you completely uninstall this for now?

   Q u o t e:
Turbine Network Service - Live LiveTurbineNetworkService Stopped Manual Own Process "c:\program files\turbine\turbine download manager\turbinenetworkservice.exe"
Also, shut down the curse client before starting wow.
CurseClient.exe   1228      Curse Client   Curse   467,608 K
467 megs right there.  ouch.

Oh.  And close firefox.

Basically you want to have as few programs running as possible.  Turbine, Curse, Firefox..all huge memory hogs.  Close em.  Close anything you don't need.  Get rid of as much stuff out of your system tray as possible.  Leave a firewall and antivirus and any app you consider necessary, then close the rest.  You should see a huge improvement.

After you get yourself upgraded, if you find that running in fullscreen works better as well, look into Xfire.  It's a messaging system that works as an overlay to games, so that you don't need to alt-tab, and it's now got AIM connectivity.  It also has its own mini-browser, if for say you're a WoWhead addict.

There's gotta be something similar for Mac people.  You'd think.

Well, here's an update:

I completely deleted Turbine and closed off Curse and everything else. From what  I could tell it only helped a tiny bit. Right now, I'm downloading AVG anti-virus and anti-spyware. Free. Then, tonight as I go to sleep I'll either run a defragmentation of my C: drive and run those scans. If, after that, I'm still unable to really play I'll start looking into buying some Ram. I've got a friend who's adamant that I just need a new computer but I'm not exactly made of money so Ram's definitely seemingly the next best thing. However, this may take anywhere between a week to about a month. Since the situation makes it almost too frustrating to play -- I've got to ask, what's The Grim's policy on new supplicants with sudden computer issues? ><

I'll mark you down as taking a leave of absence. Keep me posted, and when you're back, we'll pick things up. Not a big deal. As Bloodscream says, shit happens.
