Audio out over HDMI

Unread post by Greebo »

Canai, I lied. Some video cards *do* support audio out over HDMI:

nVidia has some too, depending on the model and the manufacturer.

Ah yes. My card should support this in theory.

I may be wrong, but I am pretty sure mine does. ATI 6970, I believe. It worked fine, but for whatever reason, was only stereo. Which was fine, i guess, but I have a nice surround set up out there in the living room, and whatnot to use the damned thing. I kept trying to tinker settings and change it, but couldnt get the surorund to work.

So after about a month, I wanted some better support for my receiver in the living room, and I said hell with it in May and got a soundblaster fatality so I could run a separate toslink cable through the wall to the big screen for dolby digital surround there.

best decision I made for gaming and moving watching the the big screen out there. Just got a new 1.4a 15 foot hdmi cable to replace theone I have been using, I will run that back through the wall for 3d on the TV via DLPLINK
