Only 1000? Besides, that's clearly Danish. Old Welsh looks like this:
A thrannoeth, yn
ieuengtit y dyd, kyodi a oruc a dyuot y Llyn
Cuch I ellwyng e gwn dan y coet. A chanu y
gorn a dechreu dygyuor yr hela.
See, Amaurn, I remembered!
Re: See, Amaurn, I remembered!
T'was but a jest I'faith. The welsh tend to be a bit behind the times is the running joke.
As for actual language history, most definately older than a 1000, your talking pre roman so easily 2 to 3 thousand, but im by no means even approaching someone who has a clue! its influence is in English of course but more heavily overpowered with Roman, Saxon, Norman etc.
EDIT: Why wales and to a lesser extent the scots have retained some Celtic launguage is simply Wales tended to be ignored and Scotland tended to be well defended, though of course being ignored worked better for preserving the old language than being well defended! As defences get overwhelmed.
Theres been a revival in recent years of the Welsh language even with welsh only channels (ok fine.... channel, though im sure there are a few more in wales itself) due to devolution of parliaments, whatever floats your boat I suppose but personally i think its silly. Its like an Italian starting to speak latin just cos it makes him feel cool.

James the First of England, Sixth of Scotland. When will the English realize that the Scots conquered *them*?Amaurn wrote: Scotland tended to be well defended

Last time I was in England, they had a whopping 4 channels. Granted, that was more than ten years ago, but I hope they added another one if they made one Welsh. Haha!Amaurn wrote:Theres been a revival in recent years of the Welsh language even with welsh only channels (ok fine.... channel, though im sure there are a few more in wales itself) due to devolution of parliaments, whatever floats your boat I suppose but personally i think its silly. There's a colony in Argentina that speaks Welsh, Welsh Patagonia, Chubut. Place names like Puerto Madryn just shatter my unilingual mind.
And naw, the Danes were just too lazy to use 'qu'. Like the Welsh! And me. But Beowulf needs a lot more 'y' and the use of 'y' for the schwa sound to really be Welshy.

Re: See, Amaurn, I remembered!
Theres only 5 Terrestrial channels. But if you have digital satellite or cable theres tons of extra free channels plus ones you can subscribe too. I dont know anyone who doesnt have at least the free digital box.
Yeah the whole scottish king thing allways amused me. Scots finally won independence then we nab their king and back united! Polictics wise though he woulda had to toe the line along the English vien as even a king couldnt stand up to a bunch of pissed off nobles. Also parliament could well have been calling more shots at this point (Maybe not, not checked as cant be arsed)
And yes I cheered when Bravehart got gutted. Mwhahaha!
