A common missive

Xara chewed on the end of the quill as she studied the letter in front of her. Truth be told, it wasn't much of a letter. Actually, it was technically only a piece of parchment at the moment. But it would be a letter. As soon as she figured out what to say.

Leyjun had told her that the Grim considered every applicant on their own merits, so saying, "Heya, I'm with Fhen!" wouldn't cut it. While Xara wasn't uncertain about her own merits, per se -- she was an accomplished fighter with a long history, known to many -- and she had even already made some friends amongst the Grim, she still found herself drawing a blank when it came to how she was supposed to present herself to win the Grim's shadowy approval.

It didn't help that she didn't really know who would be judging her worthy or not. She'd known Abric a little, back in the day, but he wasn't around much anymore. There were a few others she'd known in passing as well, but in general, the current leaders of the Grim were an unknown to her. All she knew was that they were strict, severe, uncompromising, and, well, grim.

At least, supposedly. All the Grim she'd ever met might have been a touch serious at times, but none so much that she couldn't enjoy their company. Xara mulled that over as she picked up the tankard sitting beside the letter and drank. No Grim had ever been unkind to her, or looked down on her. Their mandate sounded menacing, but those she'd met weren't. At least, not in a bad way. Xara wouldn't want to be on the wrong side of a battlefield from any of them, but knew if she found herself there, it would only be because she'd rightly earned their enmity.

She set down the tankard and put the quill to parchment.
To: Whom It May Concern Of The Grim

My name is Xaraphyne Nawe, Captain of the Skyseeker, and partner to Fhenrir Phoenix. I'm writing because in these times, we need someplace to call home. I'm hoping the Grim can be just that.

I'm no soldier of the Horde like Fhenrir is, but I believe in maintaining peace and protecting the weak. Anyone who threatens someone I care about, I will do anything in my power to end. It may be true I enjoy a good adventure more than anything, but if my reputation precedes me, I'll just say that misjudging me is a mistake old enemies who aren't around anymore have made.

Anyway, want to get a beer and chat some?

Sincerely,
Xaraphyne Nawe

Although Syreena was starting to get bored with paperwork the morning she received this letter, her interest perked when she read the first line. She looked again at the name...Xaraphyne. It was familiar, but it had been too long to remember details.

While it was true that every Grim applicant was admitted or rejected on their own merit, it was impossible to eliminate all bias. This applicant's ties to Fhenrir automatically gained her favor in the High Inquisitor's eyes. She sent a note back in reply.

Xaraphyne,

Thank you for your interest in joining The Grim. I am available to interview you on Sunday evening at 8:30 by the goblin clock, in the Wyvern's Tail inn in Orgrimmar.

Peace through annihilation.

High Inquisitor of The Grim

Xara smiled as she read the response. That damn near sounded friendly. At least, compared to the worst she could have expected. She went off to find Fhenrir and see if he'd gotten the same invitation. She'd be available at that time.
