A Scroll Delivered by a Monster

Unread post by Servilia »

The vaguely humanoid creature that shambles and slobbers its way to the Grim guildhall is nothing short of repulsive. Its thick hide is pale and wet, its lips thick and flapping as it gibbers and thrusts a folded envelope into the hands of whatever poor sod has the misfortune to answer the door. The scars and boils that peek through the rags it wears are red and angry, infected. It shambles away after thrusting the note over, all attempts to communicate with it producing no more than frustrated moans.

The letter itself is neatly and clearly written, where the beast's slime has not blurred the ink.

"Grim,

The auspices have spoken. Thrice have the damned torn their own flesh and risen from their unquiet sepulchres. The red star burns bright in the east, and false idols fall around us like leaves. The autumn of Azeroth draws nigh. Darkness walks the land, and light alone is insufficient to prevail against it. In the darkest times, shadow must face shadow. I bend my knee and yoke my power to your throne, that I might offer guidance and succor in these bleak times.

Peace through annihilation is peace nevertheless.

-Servilia Sightsbane, the Mother of Monsters"
There, then, did the gods appoint her a glorious house to dwell in: and she keeps guard in Arima beneath the earth, grim Echidna, a nymph who dies not nor grows old all her days. - Hesiod, Theogony
