Re: NextBox to block used games.
Game publishers have considered game trading a problem since NES. They make a game and sell 1 copy that gets resold 100x but they only see the original $60. I've read about it multiple times and I'm sure a quick Google would pull an article or 10. When your revenue jumps you are able to spend more ...

Re: See what I did there? (Oracle)
The statement that is giving us the most headache actually does have a where clause that returns only 1 row. I would paste it here but the whole query ends up being about a page and half long once I populate the bind variables. I really wish I understood how the where clause is effecting my optimiz...

Re: See what I did there? (Oracle)
Actually I was incorrect that it's a percentage scale. Apparently 1-10,000 is the 'cost' differential. So when the optimizer looks at explain plan of FTS vs Index they each have a cost represented as a numeric value 0-10000. This parameter is a baseline cost. Playing with the optimizer is not somet...

Re: Build me a computer
Yup. No reason to break the bank. I bought a barebones kit from TigerDirect in 2007. Added a few custom components. All told, I spent about $900 on the system. Since then I have upgraded the video card and added more memory (which I did last week - $300), and I can run Skyrim at Ultrahigh graphics m...

Re: Build me a computer
Note that hard drive prices have essentially doubled in the last few weeks because of a flood in Thailand. (Hopefully) prices will come down when the manufacturing catches up, so if you can put off buying a harddrive for now, do so...or go SSD which I believe escaped any flooding (and is still too e...

Changing your password is a smart thing. I did it too. If my post implied you should not bother to change your password then it was wrong wrong wrong.

Re: Steam Users
A rainbow table is ineffective against one-way hashes that include salts There's a reason why a large salt should be used. Good thing it was used. Apologies if I was not precise enough. Replace "hash" with "hash-with-salt" in my above post. Really I was just trying to say that t...

Re: Steam Users
Not really. Databases of hashes already exist. The salt adds a twist but not a difficult one to overcome. It's very rare that they would use a 2-way hash for passwords. It will likely be very difficult to transform those passwords into plaintext. Passwords are rarely decrypted for authentication. T...

Krinathalasa, the blood elf Blood Knight, could contain herself no longer and called out after Bloodscream. “Perhaps Blood but I’m sure you don’t have calculations to make me endure the interesting aroma that always develops when the ten of us are in an enclosed space for too long so please… hurry....
