Re: The Grim in FFXIV

Going to give the free trial a spin. Don’t really have strong feelings either way regarding FF as I’ve never played any of them. Is Balmung still the place to be? Any advice for a newcomer? Balmung and Mateus are the unofficial RP servers, and Balmung is where the FC house is, although it's a bit o...

Re: Shadows In The Cave

The Araun stood in the cave again, looking down on the elf curled on the floor. Shallow half-breaths made the sunken spaces between the elf's ribs deepen for a moment, the breaths coming with fevered speed. But Araun knew the body at his feet was cool, and getting colder. He poured another handful o...

Re: The Grim in FFXIV

We're very much alive, what's your character's name? We're mostly active on the Grim Discord these days, so join us there as well if you like.

Otherwise, look for Sindl Arahn of Kai'ir Bajihri in-game.

I went to see it and it's amazing, the lighting is really well done, right down to the dhalmel with the lamp.

Re: The Grim in FFXIV

I also had no idea we had a sister FC. Even more surprising was that I've seen people from Grim on FFXIV and never once considered it might be connected here. That's super cool! We were fairly active for a while there! We even used the run the Grindstone for a time. (Then I had a kid and after that...

Re: The Grim in FFXIV

Just an update on Balmung: it looks like you can create new characters again (maybe, kinda, if you catch it at the right time of day when it's not congested) and the server is open to transfers. Also we just finished the latest submarine model and it's out hunting for treasure and ... whales, I thin...

Re: Dwarf Fortress Succession Game?

Pincus? That way he can post the next turn up on whatever dropbox he's making?

Re: Dwarf Fortress Succession Game?

We were getting them earlier so maybe all the werebeast deaths made people a little skittish? I know I would be wary of getting cursed to turn into a buffalo once a month, it would be hell on the floors at home.

Re: Dwarf Fortress Succession Game?

Okay I managed to get things stabilized and there's a rudimentary fortress set up. It violates all my normal rules about building a fortress (all the halls are 2x2 instead of 3x3, there's no good place for a trap hall, the dining hall is a single chair to be shared by 20 people) but it exists! I put...

Re: Dwarf Fortress Succession Game?

Good news: the aquifer ram worked after all! Bad news: I discovered this by accidentally dropping the miners into the pit, killing one. The second one survived the fall but oddly didn't drown, and that's how I learned the aquifer was blocked off. I waited for the rest of the water to evaporate, buil...

Re: Dwarf Fortress Succession Game?

Ok, so I assemble some dwarves and we set out to construct a new fortress where the Moral Plain and the Hills of Haze meet the Musical Forest. Behold Idral, "Rockssilver!" The game instantly crashes. I try again and this time they named the fortress "Presenttrumpet" which is - is...

Re: Dwarf Fortress Succession Game?

Should I just embark and take the first turn, or was someone else hoping to start us off? (Ashenfury?)

Re: Dwarf Fortress Succession Game?

A common store sounds like a great idea. I think to start we'll want to share around a folder complete with executable, just so we're running from the exact same base to start, then we can share the save directory after that. I cracked open DF last night and generated a world, here's what I got: htt...

Re: Dwarf Fortress Succession Game?

Maybe a small region just to reduce the file size of the save? Any thoughts about where we want to embark - we want snuggles and unicorns, or a fiery zombie hellscape? Volcano yes/no?
